Would Trinity ever...?

Featured Replies

It seems that Trinity (and other Catholic/private schools, to a lesser degree) takes a lot of guff from people in Louisville and throughout the state about their supposed unfair advantages in football. It even appears that Manual's head coach made some kind of related comment in the lead-up to the T-Manual game. I am sure this must get annoying/frustrating for the Trinity coaches and players.

With that in mind, and considering how absolutely dominating Trinity is right now in KY, would the current Trinity coaching staff ever consider taking out their frustration and "making an example" of one of their KY public school opponents (for instance, Manual or Male)? I heard some people say that Trinity could have "named the score" against Manual last night. Is it conceivable that for one game they actually would, and beat a team by 70-80 points (or more)? At this point, the only KY teams that will play Trinity are the ones mandated to play Trinity by the KHSAA, so it's not like Trinity has to worry about losing future KY opponents over this. Could we see something like this happen either this year or next year? Why/why not?

What on earth would that even accomplish? I'm in the "no" camp.

^ To show everyone just how dominant Trinity is in football (and to "stick it" to all the people who love to diminish the hard work Trinity puts in by chalking up their success to their private school status/supposed recruiting).

And I do think that prep coaches/teams have sent messages to other opponents (via the scoreboard) every now and then.

Never would hang 70 on a team to make an example. 70 may happen from time to time, but some of those scores come from the backups. I'm in the "no" camp as well. I think most people will be.

Jbwill2, could you post that comment from Manual's coach? I only saw the one where Lucas said his kids were just as good, which would be the opposite. Maybe I missed them?

At least one Trinity supporter on here has indicated the Rocks might do it to a certain opponent in the state championship game.

^ I don't know what the specific comment was..., the only thing I know is that evidently he said something that was considered "bulletin board" material by Trinity before the game.

And for the record, I am not stating that I think Trinity should/would do this. I do know that Trinity has the talent and manpower to do this, if they so chose.

Yeah, he said that his kids were just as good as Trinity's, a blasphemy. That's the bulletin board material.

westsider, a Trinity poster here is not a coach or one who would even make that decision. I took jbwill's post to mean those within the program. I'm sure there are tons of Trinity fans who would want it. But I have never seen Coach Beatty make that kind of decision. In every situation that I can think of that he could have made such a decision, he subbed instead. I don't think he has any intent of making an "example" of any of the Rock's opponents for any reason.

What team?

Poster, do you have any children? What a sad thread. This game is about the kids, first and only. The coaches at all schools put in a great deal of time away from their own families because they love to coach. And they love the kids. Coach Beatty will coach his team and try to win, and so will the Male Coach. This is not a Braveheart Movie.

And also for the record...

I have not followed Trinity very closely, but from what I do know they have never done anything like "making an example" out of an opponent in the past.

I am not saying I would condone it, but if you think there aren't any coaches/teams out there that "send messages" by running up the score on certain occasions I think you are mistaken. We can like it or hate it, but it does happen.

And yes, I have a child.
