Why would any High School coach want to make an example out of 14 -18 year old kids competing in an athletic event?

At least one Trinity supporter on here has indicated the Rocks might do it to a certain opponent in the state championship game.

 

If you are referring to my post in another thread then you misintpreted what I was saying. I for one hope that Trinity never tries to humiliate an opponent. Is this the post you were referring to?:

 

Nothing would make me any happier then to see Coach McKee and his team post gaudy numbers all season long and to line up opposite the Rocks (assuming Trinity advances that far) in BG. The fact that McKee is one of the most vocal supporters of a public private split won't be forgotten by the Rocks if it does happen.

 

If so then I would hope and expect that just like when they played Ryle, Simon Kenton and Male in recent state championships that the Rocks would come out fired up and put the game totally out of reach by halftime and then play lots of kids. IMVHO it would make just as much of a statement to the opponent to get to the point in the state championship game that you can play all reserves in the second half.

In a word, "no". And having attended the T game last night I don't think they could have "named the score". The Rocks were actually lucky to score that last TD. Manual actually played a better game than the score would indicate IMHO. In fact, if they meet again, I would look for a closer game.

My thinking is that conversation has happened a time or two with some of the Trinity powers that be but I think doing it would be highly unlikely and nothing good would come out of it.

 

On the other hand, I think Trinity should use the KY teams to work on weak areas of their game which would actually allow most teams to play the Rocks closer than normal. That would be win-win for the Rocks.

As a point of clarification on the original post in this odd thread, there WERE KY teams willing to play other than those "mandated to play" Trinity. But in this particular year, with the reorganization of district opponents, along with prior non-athletic relationships T has with some of the out-of-state opponents, offered a chance to give fans something special. And having seen them against the likes of Cathedral and MBA, I think they have delivered very well. As for making a statement, never gonna happen.

Trinity makes that example every year in 6A.

No inside knowledge, but those teams could have been willing to play on dates that Trinity had already made plans for.

If they started doing this on any consistent basis, it would just fuel the fire to separate public and private schools.

I'd bet that the reasoning between the two teams is a little different though.

This is silly, I would hope that they would not do anything like this, especially being a Catholic school based on religion and christianity, which means turning the other cheek. In all due respect no one questions their dominance in football them and ST. X will win, every state title in 6A IMHO for a very long time. No one will touch them and they do have a very huge advantage over the public schools in the same division....Its well documented...No one in the State will beat them, more than once long shot two times in the next ten years.

^ To show everyone just how dominant Trinity is in football (and to "stick it" to all the people who love to diminish the hard work Trinity puts in by chalking up their success to their private school status/supposed recruiting).

 

And I do think that prep coaches/teams have sent messages to other opponents (via the scoreboard) every now and then.

 

And for the record, I am not stating that I think Trinity should/would do this. I do know that Trinity has the talent and manpower to do this, if they so chose.

Well, ultimately I think the underlying basis is the same in both cases... a lack of other programs wanting to play Trinity and Scott this year, each for different reasons.

 

I am still curious to hear about KY programs that were seriously considering playing Trinity this year, as it was my understanding that Trinity had to schedule so many OOS games due in large part to an unwillingness to play this year's Trinity squad on the part of many/most/all KY schools.
