Going to watch Murray vs. Calloway at Murray State on 8/29 then the next day going to watch Mayfield vs. Fort Campbell at the alliance bowl in Marshall county, what a weekend of football!!

I guess Hoptown is back on track this season, I think if these two played during the regular season, it would be something to see.

I am kinda surprised at this outcome, I thought that Marshall lost a lot of key players to graduation?

All I have heard so far is that he'll prob miss the Murray game, but broken bones can take a long time to heal. I know last year Mayfield's backup QB broke his wrist and we all thought he would be back in mid-season and he wound up never getting to play at all.

Mayfield scrimmages Christian next friday.

I was at this scrimmage yesterday, didn't stay for the whole thing, but I can provide some information from what I saw to those who may be interested.. Calloway's offense was a little lackluster but that could be due to the fact that starting QB Casey Brockman was in an arm cast and not in pads, but his backup is very capable, I don't know his name or anything but he did throw for one TD. Tyrell Willis is a monster but Christian County's defense was able to get through the line and stop him rather handily from what I saw. Without Brockman throwing the offense was rather bland, but Calloway does have several capable receivers that can catch the ball. I never saw Willis throw a single pass and I know that everybody was talking about him passing the ball this year, but I never saw it unless they did later on in the evening. Christian County has a monster of a fullback, #40 who was just rolling through Calloway's defense, very hard to contain. The QB, #10 I believe, has an excellent arm and can throw the distance, I believe I read that he's a transfer from Kansas, looks very impressive. He also had a very nice run for a TD after evading several defenders, he's very quick on his feet. His backup, #15 looked pretty good during warm ups and can kick the ball very well.

Yeah, but it does effect basketball by cutting into December.

A couple of standout players I noticed that I don't remember from last year. #25 Ross I believe was a very promising back from what I saw and the other one was a kid named Shultz I believe. I only noticed from the formations that we were running that we only have one varsity back, is that right or is Shelton going to be carrying the ball? What about Jarrod Noonan, is he carrying the ball this year?

Yeah, you're right, we hung with em pretty good for the most part, but we did have 3 fumbles, hopefully it will all be corrected by game time. I do really hope that all of the problems we had last year will be corrected, nopefully the ones that had a hand in it can be leaders instead of problem causers. I didn't count 6 scores, not even with the second string.

I'd say Milan 3 scores to Mayfield 1 score, Varsity scrimmage.

Was it just me or did Mayfield look a little flat in this scrimmage? Our offense had some bright spots but I thought our defense looked pretty rough, especially our passing defense, the kids seem to have the ability to keep up with receivers, but they are not looking for the ball. Milan seems to be a very well coached team. And what was the deal with letting the second string play so much?

Ok, where are the rankings, I read in the Murray Ledger that the BluegrassPreps Rankings are out, but so far all I have seen is talk.

I would think around 4 or 5, maybe later cause of heat? Anybody finds out the right time, please update, thanks.

I had heard about the Sorina kid, seems like last year when Mayfield came to Crittenden he was standing on the sidelines with his hands folded like he was upset about something. I don't think he got to play in that game at all IIRC. I had heard that one of the lineman or one of the big boys transferred to Texas, is that true? Don't think Mayfield is without our faults tho, we had defectors which tore the team apart and now you see that one of our up and coming backs will not be playing this year, I just hope its not the end for him, he is a great talent that I would absolutely hate to see go to waste. Any Mayfield fans know the date and time of our home scrimmage?

Here's something interesting for you Mayfield fans to think about. If Mayfield beats Crittenden county during their first matchup and Crittenden goes on to win out the rest of the season, then I believe that in the playoffs, if we are back to playing the different districts like I think we are (pretty confusing how we flip-flop), but if Mayfield went on to beat their 2nd district opponent and so did Crittenden, wouldn't we have a Mayfield-Crittenden matchup at Mayfield for the regional title?

I agree with everyone else about the cats pause, at least theres some good info in there about the UK guys. The bluegrass preps preview alone pays for our membership here guys, keep up the good work!!

I know that Fulton City only has 9 games scheduled this year just like last year. I would have thought with the season that they had last year and bringing back some of that team they would have been able to fill up their schedule, but cost may have been the factor.

Wow!! Big changes!! Is Joe stepping to the side these next few years cause we are going to be running more of a passing scheme?? I too would also like to know more about this coach Franklin.

I just think all this flip-flopping around is making the KHSAA look pretty silly, they should have left it all alone. At this point you are just piling problems on top of problems.

To my knowledge the defensive coaching position at Mayfield is still open.

Definitely playing Calloway cause that was a 2 year deal and Marshall is prob still on there, not sure about Caldwell, I think that was just a 2 year deal, unless a bowl game doesn't count. I did enjoy getting to see Caldwells stadium for the first time, very respectable folks from what I saw, :thumb:

Yeah, I heard coach Morris mention that they may be in the bowl game last year when they were talking about the future of the Alliance bowl. If this is true, I won't be able to contain myself this summer, :jump:

Its still early but I would say thats a fair assessment at this point. I have heard a ton of applicants have applied for Lawson's position, anybody got any names to throw around? :fire:

Well, first, Mayfield has to replace 2 or 3 coaches, lol. But I think as far as the team is concerned a ton of talent is returning, really young talent and if this talent can grow up quick Mayfield could be really scary offensively. Defensively there is still a big question mark with defensive coordinator Lawson gone.

Its going to be interesting to see how Marshall rebounds after the loss of Alan Williams as running back, I think a lot of teams were keying on him in games and with that threat removed defenses can focus on other things. I think the QB is returning, someone correct me if I am wrong.
