Toughest 1A Schedule

Featured Replies

At this point I would have to tip my hat (or laurel leaves...) to Pikeville for having the toughest 1A schedule.

Pikeville faces 4A champion LexCath, 3A runner-up Belfry and 2A powerhouses Corbin and Prestonsburg.

THAT is an impressive schedule.

That is going to be tough to beat.

In the West I know Mayfield has Fort Campbell (defending champs) and some other bigger schools around the region, but I would give the edge to Pikeville.

Mayfield's non district schedule starts with defending 2A State Champion Ft. Campbell, and also includes 3A State Semifinalist Paducah Tilghman, 6A schools Marshall County and Graves County, 4A Calloway County, and 2A Caldwell County

Wouldn't surprise me to see Mayfield end at about 5-5 or 6-4 with that schedule..You would have to think Ft Campbell, Pad Tilghman, Marshall Co & Calloway Co would all be favored and Graves Co & Caldwell Co probably pick-em games..Throw in an always tough Fulton City and an improved Crittenden Co team and thats pretty solid.. Mayfield always does that though and then when there record isn't that great, other teams don't think they're that good and get it handed to em, cause they're playoff ready...

I give props to Pikeville, too...That schedule will do nothing but help you come playoff time...

1. Beechwood (CovCath, Dixie Heights, NCC, Prestonsburg)

2. Pikeville (LexCath, Belfry, Corbin, Prestonsburg)

3. Mayfield (Ft. Campbell, Paducah Tilghman, Calloway Co., Graves Co., Marshall Co.)

4. Campbellsville (LCA, Green Co., Danville, Marion Co.)

5. LCA (Corbin, Breathitt Co., Hazard)

6. Raceland (Ashland Blazer, LCA, Russell)

T7. Louisville HC (Belfry, South Oldham, E-Town, Butler, Doss)

T7. Frankfort (Danville, Franklin Co.)

T7. Hazard (couldn't find their schedule but I know they are gonna be good)

10. Crittendon Co. and Fulton City (Couldn't find either schedule, but I know they share common opponents in Mayfield and Lone Oak)

11+ (I don't know much about Eastern KY teams, but I would assume those not mentioned already would be lumped in with Crittendon and Fulton City)

Marshall County will not be favored over Mayfield. The Cardinals should also handle Graves County and Caldwell County. I expect the Cardinals will be at least 7-3.

I agree with your assessment. I also wouldn't disagree with either Beechwood or Pikeville being number one.

The team that took the biggest step in upgrading their schedule appears to be Campbellsville....I was kinda shocked when I saw it.....

LCA (last years 1A runner-up)

Green Co. (graduated lots of players, but i think their recent success will carry over)

Danville (enough said)

Marion Co. (had a great year last year, dont know what they lost

Considering Campbellsville hasn't had a GREAT team in some time, I am surprised their coach beefed up the schedule to the degree he did......

I'd take that...I wasn't sure what Marshall Co had coming back, just speaking from the past couple of years, they've really put it on Mayfield and were very solid and then I said Graves was a pick em game because of the rivalry between the 2 and the # difference can be a factor at any time, especially early in the year when it's still hot and humid...I've also heard Caldwell was dressing more kids than ever, so, I would expect that to be close, too, especially at Caldwell..I wouldn't be surprised to see Mayfield beat Tilghman, Ft Campbell and/or Calloway Co, but, they would have to really be on top of there games on those given nights to do it...

I expect Campbellsville to have the best team they have had is quite a while. I would say that is why the schedule was beefed up a little.

Hazard scheduled 5A Johnson Central, 2A Green County, 5A Perry Central, and 1A Lexington Christian.

Not much ...

I said Graves was a pick em game because of the rivalry between the 2 and the # difference can be a factor at any time, especially early in the year when it's still hot and humid...
Graves lost about 16 or 17 starters, best I recall.

I've also heard Caldwell was dressing more kids than ever, so, I would expect that to be close, too, especially at Caldwell..
Mayfield beat Caldwell handily in Princeton last year. This year's game is at Mayfield.
