2008 Marshall County

Featured Replies

What does Marshall County need to do to improve in 2008? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Its going to be interesting to see how Marshall rebounds after the loss of Alan Williams as running back, I think a lot of teams were keying on him in games and with that threat removed defenses can focus on other things. I think the QB is returning, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Stephen Barga, the starting quarterback, was a senior ... the backup, Denver Seay, is well-regarded, but most of the Marshals' other offensive standouts will be gone.

I can still see Marshall making a respectable run in the playoffs next year. I don't know about another district title but I think we'll still see some good football.

I will be shocked if Marshall has a winning record. They were awfully thin last season and most of the key players are gone.

Perhaps the Marshals will be well rested and ready for the playoffs after buying out their contracted contest at Bowling Green in week 11.

Actually, they're playing Owensboro in week 11 ...

I guess they felt the need to lighten their schedule. :D

That does lighten it a little bit ...

Marshall has their reasons for backing out of the game, although I think they should just tough it out and honor the contract.

Has Bowling Green found a replacement opponent yet? It's going to be tough, given the circumstances.

Marshall Co. is playing Owensboro, but it is not in week 11. So, tell us, what were the Marshals reasons for backing out of the BG game. BG will be travelling to Henderson Co. in the week 11 slot that was scheduled for a home game with Marshall Co.

My bad. I knew that Marshall was replacing the Purples with Owensboro, and I just assumed it was in Week 11. I forgot that Owensboro had an open date because they lost the Boone County game.

Several, from what I'm told ...

To sum it up, Marshall's administration wasn't happy with Bowling Green's administraton on several fronts.

It started with the state golf tournament. Bowling Green filed an eligibility complaint on one of Marshall County's players after the Marshals won the state title ... Bowling Green finished in second place. The kid was initially ruled ineligible by the KHSAA and the state title vacated. Later, the kid's eligibility was restored and the Board of Control granted Marshall's appeal and Marshall was declared the state champion.

During the investigation, Marshall's girls' soccer team played at Bowling Green in the sectional final. Marshall felt that some things were said and done at the game that were related to the golf fiasco, and that Bowling Green's administration did little or nothing about it.

Also, there was some friction at the Marshall-Bowling Green football game. I wasn't there, but I am told that there was a confrontation involving some members of Bowling Green's coaching staff and some Marshall fans, and there were some hard feelings.

Bottom line ... Marshall won't be competitive with Bowling Green next year (they weren't last year, either), and I'm sure that had something to do with the decision to back out of the contract.

I'm not defending Marshall's position in any way ... I'm simply explaining it.

Glad they found a game. Actually, it will do them more good (as a team, competitively speaking) to play Henderson, although losing a home gate hurts.
