BOARD APPROVES FOOTBALL PLAYOFF/TRACK STATE MEET FORMATS

 

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control approved format changes to the state football playoff brackets as well as the State Track & Field Meet at its regular meeting Thursday in Lexington.

For the 2008 season, football bracketing for Classes 1-5 will return to “out of district” cross bracketing beginning with the first round. Previously, the four teams qualifying from within a district would play in the first and second round based on district records. For the 2008 season in Classes 1-5 the bracket will be:

 

For Class 6A, the Board chose to return to “out of district” cross bracketing beginning in the first round, but to continue with the previously approved schedule that was adopted through a random draw. For Class 6A, the bracket will be:

Remember in 2006 or 2007 when the KHSAA said they were making playoff changes to "save gas money." They had the "random draw" and then later revealed that it was only random for Districts 3, 4, 5 and 6. Now, when gas prices are at all time highs they are going back to the way it used to be for Classes 1A-5A and only slightly modifying Class 6A. Nothing like being consistent on an issue. Quite comical.

I believe it was the coaches association pushing to go back to the old way of playing teams from another district.

 

On the 6A stuff, I am not sure what it all means. The random draw led to a public school blow out last time around and I think that is bad for football in KY.

I'm glad it didn't take them several years to fix this (at least most of it). I prefer cross district playoffs.

Ah, now I see why 6A remains the same ... Trinity and St. Xavier will be on the same side of the bracket next season.

This is great news. I take it to mean that districts 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8 play each other each year for the regional championships, as it should be. In effect, we have regions again.

This greatly harms the credibility of their decisions.

It's a good start. Now, if they would have just went back to only the top two teams from each district making the playoffs, and four of five classes, we would be good.

If I understand this right a team could still go 0-10 and make the playoffs. I think that part should have been fixed.

Cool, I like it. But who gets the home field advantage? Like when the top seeds meet up.
