In the old system (pre-2006), if two schools were #1, the odd district hosted in odd years and even district hosted in even years. Region I and III host semifinal games in odd years and II and IV host in even years.

The old system worked. Never should have changed. Even with 6 classes and some tweaking, none of this would have had to go on. Great move.

As for all the negative comments about the KHSAA flip flopping, you need to understand that both changes came about as a result of requests by the schools. First they asked to stay in district due to travel costs. The KHSAA said okay and made the change. This year, the schools said they didn't like playing teams in the district in the first two games and wanted to go out of district and the KHSAA said okay again and switched back. There has been some flip flopping no doubt, but methinks it hasn't been the KHSAA doing it. From what I'm told the KHSAA really tries, when possible and when they don't think it will hurt athletics in Ky and when they don't think it will be unfair to the kids, to try and do what the schools want to do.

I believe it was the coaches association pushing to go back to the old way of playing teams from another district.

 

On the 6A stuff, I am not sure what it all means. The random draw led to a public school blow out last time around and I think that is bad for football in KY.

About time they listened to the coaches. The regular season was almost meaningless the past couple of years knowing you were going to have to beat your distirict teams twice to just get to the Region.

As a fan I thought the way things were going was great. Teams that got blowed out during the regular season, came in and played much better in the second meetings. To me it seems like you would get more rivalry games, better gates, and more competetive play playing in your own district. What is the major draw back.

 

Also, I thought the districts in where supposed to switch this year in regional play. Why would that change? I am at the point I don't care anymore. Bottom line is 9 out 10 T or X will be in the state game still every year....and the complaints will continue!

The switching of districts was the worst thing ever done in high school football. Fans and even players didn't even know who their team would play in the third round of the playoffs. It was much, much too confusing and served no purpose except to help some teams dodge others for another round. It also made it impossible to even know which region you were in from one year to the next.

Ha. No, going to 6 classes was the worst in my opinion. If the fans and players could read, they could easily see who they would play-not really hard to figure out. That is just a poor excuse.
