Calloway/Christian County Scrimmage

Featured Replies

I was at this scrimmage yesterday, didn't stay for the whole thing, but I can provide some information from what I saw to those who may be interested..

Calloway's offense was a little lackluster but that could be due to the fact that starting QB Casey Brockman was in an arm cast and not in pads, but his backup is very capable, I don't know his name or anything but he did throw for one TD. Tyrell Willis is a monster but Christian County's defense was able to get through the line and stop him rather handily from what I saw. Without Brockman throwing the offense was rather bland, but Calloway does have several capable receivers that can catch the ball. I never saw Willis throw a single pass and I know that everybody was talking about him passing the ball this year, but I never saw it unless they did later on in the evening.

Christian County has a monster of a fullback, #40 who was just rolling through Calloway's defense, very hard to contain. The QB, #10 I believe, has an excellent arm and can throw the distance, I believe I read that he's a transfer from Kansas, looks very impressive. He also had a very nice run for a TD after evading several defenders, he's very quick on his feet. His backup, #15 looked pretty good during warm ups and can kick the ball very well.

Anyone know the status of Brockman's injury? I had heard it would be a few weeks and possibly in to district play before he returns. Not really sure however.

I thought Mayfield was playing Christian Co in a scrimmage today...If CC just played Calloway yesterday, who's Mayfields 2nd scrimmage with today?

All I have heard so far is that he'll prob miss the Murray game, but broken bones can take a long time to heal. I know last year Mayfield's backup QB broke his wrist and we all thought he would be back in mid-season and he wound up never getting to play at all.

Rule 13

Brockman has a broken bone in his left hand, his non-throwing hand. The Lakers are hopeful that he will be ready for the opener against Murray.

It was reported that the score was 3-2 Christian in the varsity. Not bad for Calloway considering they were without their QB. Had to have limited their offensive capabilities. How good is Christian Co. supposed to be this year?

Is it something that will heal quickly (as in fully recovered by then)? Here is to a speedy recovery :thumb:

Pretty solid. #5 preseason in the BGP poll.

I definately think Christian Co will be the team to beat out west..Owensboro and Hopkinsville will give them a run, but, I believe they

have the better talent across the board this year..I also believe they'll give JHardin or BGreen a stern test to reach Louisville this year...

Calloway Co will also be very good in 4a...They'll score a bunch of points with a great passing game and better than average running game...The biggest question mark for them is keeping other teams from scoring...If they can just be a little better than average on defense, then they'll be a tough out come playoff time and could make a run to Louisville themselves. I don't believe they could handle Bell or Lex Cath though, who appear head and shoulders above the rest of 4a...

Steven Bauer is the quarterback for Christian County. He was very solid under center last year after winning the starting job in week #1. Vashun Banks apparently won't start (or even play) in the season opener with Tilghman (undisclosed non-medical reason). I doubt he played last night. I think Grimes in the big fullback for Christian County.

3-2 County? That's kind of a surprise. They were ranked top 5 in 5A preseason. They were purported to be better than that.

Could it be that Calloway might be legit too?

That could be, where were they ranked in 4A? I wasn't knocking the Lakers. I would think that a top 5 team in a higher class (and 5A is a tough class) would have have an easier time BUT it is just a scrimmage.
