  1. Profound! Knowledge such as that is rare!
  2. I may be mistaken, but I think from '96 to '02, Breathitt won three state championships. So, the teams of the last few years have been looked at as '"being down." Breathitt is still one of the best teams in 3A and in the mountains.
  3. Oh. Well, I usually slip up and call them Cawood...haha. I'm still getting used to that.
  4. That's impressive! He'll be ahead of Tim Couch and Chris Todd. We all know how great Couch was, but Todd is starting QB for Auburn right now.
  5. Breathitt is a very good football teams. Fugate is one of the best backs in the mountains!
  6. I'm shocked by the outcome of the game. Seemed to me Letcher was the clear cut favorite in the district. Not anymore.
  7. Huh? I'm not sure I know what you are saying.
  8. Very, very true! I've read numerous posts that put Coach Larkey in such high regard, and I agree with those wholeheartedly because his resume speaks for itself. However, unless the players of this team get the desire to be the best every Friday night, they will come up short. I think the Bears have it in them to be very good, but they have to prove it every time they step onto the field. Also, I was disappointed to hear about some players being dismissed from the team. I don't want to put the players' names on here, but does anyone know if this is true?
  9. Harlan lost 20-14. Letcher's freshmen are so big, you would think they were older, but I saw the kids play in middle school last year. Harlan lost arguably their best back in the second quarter, and that really hurt!
  10. Not only is the 4-hour bus ride going to be tough to overcome, but when you are talking about (most) high school players, playing on Saturday means staying up late Friday night.
  11. After hearing so much about the Fleming team, I'm kind of worried now. Harlan Co - 27 Fleming Co - 13
  12. I saw a couple of coaches at the Letcher game that I didn't recognize. I was wondering the same thing.
  13. What were Lewis' stats for the game? How far is he from the record?
  14. About Colerain being one of the top teams in the country, they probably are considered just that. ESPN.com has them ranked #26 in the nation, ahead of some very good teams including, St. X of Cincinnati, Maryville (TN), Mater Dei (CA) and others. As far as moral victory is concerned, Highlands probably doesn't believe in that for them. So, I would say it was a tremendous effort on their part, and they should hold their heads up!
  15. I didn't realize there were so many injuries. Hopefully, you guys can get healthy before district play!
  16. I predicted 42-14, but I figured Lynn Camp's starters would score on the younger guys. Mitchell must have played his subs in the latter part of the game, too. Good win for the Black Bears. No shame for Lynn Camp losing to a much bigger school - good luck to them for the remainder of the season. The Black Bears open their district schedule next Saturday against Fleming County.
  17. According to khsaa.org, Howard's last championship was in '89. It also said that Ed Miracle took Lynch East Main to eight state championships, winning four. Was Howard one of the first coaches to "throw the ball around" in the mountains? He's still one of the few.
  18. I think Powell was added back to the schedule. I can see how you got mixed up, though. The game was a forfeit for a while.
  19. Yeah, I was told similar facts. Would that have been when Hillard Howard was at Pikeville? He seems to have a good record against Harlan County/City teams.
  20. I watched Highlands last year, and Colerain a couple years back, and both are great high school football teams! I'm going to say Colerain will take this one, but Highlands will put a heckuva fight!
  21. From what I've heard (I was but a tot then), Frazier, at times, had the most talent in Class "A," but could never pull it off. Is this true - even to a certain extent? Who's Phillips?
  22. How about adding Rockcastle to top it off? That would be an intriguing matchup!!! (Finally, my 1000th post!!!)
