Highlands travels to Ohio to take on Cincinnati Colerain this week. HHS is 1-0 after beating Ryle 26-6 in week 1. Colerain is 2-0 after a close win against Cincinnati Saint Xavier in week 1 and on overtime win over McKeesport, Pennsylvania in week 2 (part of the Herbstreit event). Both HHS and CHS are "young" this year, but I'm thinking that this means two very different things when talking about HHS and CHS. Also, HHS will be without RB Josh Conner, who is going to be out a few more weeks due to injury. I'm thinking that this game is close for the first half and CHS opens it up in the second half (similar to what happened in 2005, but not as bad a loss for HHS points-wise this time around).

The Birds better work on execution this week in practice because this game is going to require 100% execution on every play if they want to compete. The Cardinals mean business and they haven't lost a home game in 10 yrs.

 

Im sure Dale will have the boys confident when they step on the field. I am looking forward to this matchup not only to see the Birds compete but also to see some excellent OHIO football.

I heard that on the news the other night when they were showing Colerain highlights so I am hoping that its accurate. Maybe Cardinal fan can confirm.

I believe that this will be a tough one for the Birds to win. I wish them all the best to come home with a win but I just not to confident in this one. Good Luck Birds!

Good luck to the Highlands team but to be honest, I think Colerain wins this walking away, especially without there key RB..Hope I'm wrong, but, if the Bluebirds can stay within 3 scores, I'd consider that a successful showing...

Actually, early match-ups like this one usually flush out the weaknesses and strengths on the squad... It provides Dale and the staff the opportunity to shore up the weaknesses and to make improvements before the start of district play.

 

The goal is to play as hard as one can and to be able to walk out of Colerain Stadium without injuries.

Colerain kids-young means these kids are sophomores but due to their enormous depth, probably get a lot more reps than maybe some of those HHS kids did in previous seasons. I would be willing to say that Colerain sophomores played a lot as frosh on next level at end of their year. HHS doesn't move all of theirs up. I am pretty sure only the ones that want to do that. I bet every Colerain kid does it. Good experience for future.

 

The long and the short of it is, they're young, we're young, mistakes will be made on both sides. Look at Trotwood Madison last year. They were men among boys and our boys pulled it out. This could come down to the simple fact of who capitalizes on the others' mistakes and who can hold it together as a team.

 

My prediction is that Mr. Guidugli may be right and Highlands could win this game. I say HHS in a last minute squeaker 22-21.

As far as speed, I think Highlands has just as much. I am more worried about the size matchups that will go on. Colerain players look like they should be at UC or something. They are big kids! I know they also have the speed to boot, but SOMETHING in my loyal Bird gut tells me that Highlands is going to come out this week looking completely different than the HHS team that "sqeeked out" as some put it, a 20 point victory over Ryle.

 

I still take the Birds and will be over there to see for myself. Does anyone know the exact game time on Friday? 7 or 7:30pm?

I agree, that person obviously didn't see the Ryle game because I thought for sure they were pretty much in the game up until the 4th quarter. Ryle hung with the Birds for 3 quarters, they must be pretty good.

One game at a time, and this is the game you have chewed on all winter, spring and summer to get to. This is why you chose to play for the Bluebirds, to play top level teams like yourselves. Play your game!

I will be rooting for HHS, but lets face it, Colerain, is heads and shoulders above HHS (and any other team from NKy) but I think they will give a better showing than did CovCath the other day against Mooney! Good luck Bluebirds brings back a winner!
