  1. Is Michael Campbell not playing basketball this season? He was one of their better players last year.
  2. I played for coach Luttrell for two games my freshman season before he left for the ROTC program at the University of Kentucky. That was in 2001, and when the twin towers were attacked, he left UK for Iraq. I absolutely LOVED coach Luttrell! He may not have been the best at X's and O's, but he was a master motivator, and really cared about his players.
  3. Wow! I didn't expect this, but I'm not completely surprised by it! Good win for South. This doesn't mean Corbin isn't the team to beat, though.
  4. I think Dematha is the best high school team in Maryland - maybe not this year, but overall.
  5. This is a nice win for North Laurel. Should be a good confidence boost.
  6. If I had to guess, I would say coaching was a big factor in this one. I'm not going to comment on either coach, just stating.
  7. Good read! St. John has become a great player for South Laurel!
  8. I've seen all of the better teams in the region except for Clay, and I don't think anyone can beat Corbin if they play the way they are. But, you are right, things tend to get crazy come tournament time.
  9. Corbin is really hitting on all cylinders at this point in the season. I'd be surprised to see someone other than the Redhounds win the region. Good luck to the Black Bears the rest of the season. They play very hard, but need a leader to emerge from the bunch! Hopefully, they can find that before March!
  10. Not unanimous, but still the best at this point! :thumb:
  11. If this about the Harlan schools only, I don't know if any of the upperclassmen will have the opportunity to play college basketball. Jecorey Fields would probably have the best chance because of his size. Josh Caldwell may have been able to last season, but I don't know if he would be able to now. I think Blaine Green from M'boro is probably the best player in the 52nd. He will have the opportunity to play after high school.
  12. 13th Region: James David Strange, Pineville 14th Region: Josh Whitaker, Hazard 15th Region: Elisha Justice, Shelby Valley I would say these three are the best in their respective regions. Justice is probably the best out of the group!
  13. I think it is the Chris Lofton rule. After we let Lofton slip through the cracks, and burn us for four years, there is a lot of pressure on the coach of Kentucky to secure all of the in-state kids. If Euton turns out to be a bust at UK, Coach G will catch flack. If he goes elsewhere and puts 20 on the Cats, Coach G will catch flack, as well. What do you do?
  14. That would make for a darn good resume! I think it is safe to say that Jones and Wright are tops in the 13th region.
  15. I don't think refs in the 13th region cheat for a certain team. I have seen teams come in who aren't in the region, and get some really bad calls. My biggest problem is the fact that they are sometimes inconsistent. Either they let the players play and the game is physical, or they call EVERYTHING! I wish they would keep some consistency in this area.
  16. I know it doesn't mean as much, but it is possible that Jones' All "A" state championships are more impressive than Wright's Sweet 16 championship. Harlan beat a University Heights team that was very good. I think UHA had five D-1 players on that team. Charles Thomas' junior year was Jones' best chance at a state title, but they didn't make the Sweet 16. I'm afraid to post what I think happened (against Clay Co.) because my post will be edited....haha :thumb: But, I think Wright is an excellent coach. Here is my question: Since Wright and Pietrowski are rival coaches, I wonder who will end their respective career as the "better" coach.
  17. Billy Hicks led Scott County to a state championship in 2007. He is from Evarts. Does that count? Actually, all the good coaches really are from Harlan. Happy Osborne is from the Lynch/Benham/Cumberland area. He has had a great career at Georgetown College. Bernie Bickerstaff, who, last season, coached the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats, is from the same area as Osborne. That's a pretty basketball savvy group from Harlan County.
  18. Now, that is crazy! It's so bad that it is humorous! You should have said, "No!"
