Thank you. I have no frame of reference as I have not seen Mayer play. The Big 10 has been brought up. Sindelar seemed a decent comparison. I hope he does what makes him happy, though.

Outsider question (and I may be invading on a territorial argument): Does Beechwood have an issue with success in girls' sports programs? Or any other program that's not football?

Is he better than Sindelar? Fair question.

Marly Walls signed with Bucknell a couple weeks ago, and last night she had a monster game in her season-opener with 38pts, 13 rebounds and 8 steals. She also had 4 assists. Scored 10 of the team's first 16 as they got out to a 16-6 lead. She has a great chance to go after Miss Basketball.

I counted 20 titles for Kenton Co., including a Ludlow title I wasn't aware of. With Kenton Co., it's 4 different towns. Two different ones in Campbell Co. I think Danville's claim to Titletown is pretty ironclad, especially when you consider "town" is part of it.

I think there are 10 in Kenton Co. playing football, but I could be wrong. There was one title by Holy Cross, and everything else came from Beechwood and CovCath. Someone else would know totals. And Kenton Co. is much bigger than Campbell Co., population-wise. About 165K.

I haven't seen either team, so I'm just hoping for an entertaining game when I head up there Friday afternoon.

I really only know Bethlehem since it's right here in town. Of the 16 varsity head coaches in the various sports, I know of two who are teachers and one other who is an administrator at the building. Another is a longtime administrator at one of the Catholic elementary schools in Nelson Co., but until being hired on this year, he had been a longtime assistant coach at Nelson Co. HS. The rest are paraprofessionals, as far as I can tell, but most have had longtime associations with the school, either as students, coaches, or parents of students. This is probably fairly common at most small Catholic high schools.

E'town has gotten a lot of return TDs on ST, so that takes a big weapon away from them.

Just a theory, but in Ohio there are a lot of municipal high school stadiums that service 3-4 schools or more, aren't there? With those stadiums not tied to any specific school, I would guess that makes it easier. With those stadiums long being used in service for football state tournament events, I guess they sorted out those issues a long time ago. In Kentucky, isn't Manual Stadium the only one that really fits that description? Even the most urban schools in Ky have stadiums either on campus or close by, so the need for municipal stadiums used by multiple teams never arose because football is a late-blooming sport in Ky compared to other states (and compared to hoops in its own state). My mom's family is from the Davenport, Iowa, area, and they have a municipal stadium that hosts HS games for the three city schools, and has always at least been a regional site for playoffs throughout history.

If Crittenden Co. does what it did the whole game — especially the second half — of the Bethlehem game, they will roll. They have a nice line.

20 points in football and hoops. 5 runs in baseball and softball. 3-0 in soccer. In VB, it's 3-0 with each set being 8-point margin.

Campbellsville may win, but I don't know how well they'll take to playing in that environment after a 4-hour bus trip. I hope they take lots of fans, but I'm not optimistic. I think Crittenden wins in a thriller.

I have actually not seen them play. From what I understand, it's all about the QB with them, though.

I had the Nesbitt kid for 41 carries for 255 and 4 TDs. Bethlehem got just 31 yards of total offense in the second half.

Apparently Russellville got some garbage TDs. The last score I heard announced at the Crittenden-Bethlehem game was 38-8 or something to that effect.

Just to reiterate on how Scribe was underselling the portions at this place, I came in very hungry as I hadn't eaten for 10hrs, and somehow managed to eat about a third of a 15" calzone that was nearly as big around as the barrel of a baseball bat. Huge.

I was also looking for Glenn's upon Rocket's recommendation but apparently the place is "closed permanently" according to the Google machine. A lot of the Bethlehem folks who made the trip were also happy with the place. It's a gem for a small town like that.

Thanks for the suggestions in the prediction thread on local eats. I ended up at Main St. Grill and it was quite good. The calzone I got was every bit of 15" and stuffed full. I got through about a third of it and it was too much. Will make for a nice snack (meal) tomorrow.

Tied at half, but CC and the running of Nesbitt was too much in the 2nd half. Rockets made some good adjustments defensively at halftime and kept the Eagles bottled up all 2nd half.
