Do you think that if they can hire someone with strong ties to the program that some of the asst. coaches will change their mind and stay? How many of the assts. teach in the system?

Bell Co. needs to get lucky on their coaching hire or I believe they will drop off a notch. They have to get someone who can overcome the current administration and also be able to hire quality asst. coaches without paying them much, or possibly not paying them at all. Teaching jobs for new asst. coaches will more than likely not be available either.

I'm pretty sure they will remain in 3A through the next classification.

Coach P. used Corbin's lack of size to his advantage in this game. Corbin dictated tempo and forced the South Laurel bigs to guard quicker players in space. They just couldn't hit enough open looks to pull off the upset. Good game play though.

South Laurel & Clay Co. are both very good this year, so I could see either at #1. I think Knox Central may be a little low, I would put them above both Corbin and Whitley Co. I would drop OBI down a few notches at this point as well.

Scott Co. is young, even younger than Corbin I believe, who starts 1 freshman, 2 sophs and 2 juniors.

I can see where the Boyle fans are coming from, and maybe they should be higher, but he had to come up with a formula to calculate this and that's how it added up. My hat is off to him for the work he put into it.:thumb:

Corbin was undefeated and ranked as the #1 team 2-3 times before losing heartbreakers to either Middlesboro or Somerset and didn't even make the playoffs, ending their season with 1 loss. They and Middlesboro were also in what they called a sub-district back in the early 80's when both were ranked in the top 3 in their class.

Not really, probably anywhere from #6- #10. They will get a lot better, but their only Sr. and only player with any size went down with a knee injury a few weeks ago and they will struggle to fill his role. Maybe one of the football players will be able to help, but they haven't really been out long. They are young though, starting a freshman, 2 sophomores and 2 juniors. The next 2 teams(South Laurel & Scott Co.) they play are just as good or possibly better than Clay, so they will take some lumps early.

Where were they from?

Looking at those defensive rushing stats makes me think that Corbin's offense must have competed really well to have run for close to 200 yards against Belfry. They have a big gap to close, but do return 10 offensive starters plus a couple of younger players who missed the entire season. Congratulations on a great season and hope to be able to see you guys in Corbin next year in the playoffs.

Andrew Taylor led Corbin with 26, Maguet with 14 and Sam Taylor 12. Things get a lot tougher for the young Hounds with the next 3 games on the road against Clay Co., Scott Co. and South Laurel.

Combination of the two. I believe they are making a mistake though.

Congratulations to the Pirates. Corbin's defense just could not get enough stops to get off the field. They needed Belfry to help them out some with fumbles and penalties, but they just wouldn't do it. I thought the Corbin offense played well, just need more big play ability to be able to finish off drives. I think they return 10 on the offensive side, plus have a WR back who missed the entire season, so maybe they will be a little more consistent next year. Good luck to Belfry in the finals!

Jewell is very strong, weighs 165 or so and squats 500 lbs.

How about Andrew Taylor from Corbin? Is he close to making the top 25? I know that he has at least a couple of D1 offers already going into his Sophomore year.

Belfry is still a matchup nightmare for the Hounds. I'm not sure what they do well enough offensively to be able to move the ball with any consistency against the Belfry defense and they don't have a lot of big play capability either. As far as being healthy, they lost a couple of key seniors out of an already small Sr. class(they play 5 seniors)early in the year, so they have played without them for most of the year anyway, and they have a few banged up, but so does most everyone else this time of year as well. This should be a good experience for this group because most of them have gotten their first real varsity action this year as only 4 current starters were starters last year. They will likely be over matched, but will play hard and will go in expecting to have a shot at winning.

Corbin's offense was able to sustain a couple long drives in the second half that led to TD's, which also kept the Bell Co. offense on the sideline. Bell's defense seemed to run out of gas and just could not stop Corbin in the 4th qtr., so their lack of depth probably played a huge role as well. Humfleet getting injured in the 3rd quarter also limited the Bell offense. Hopefully it's nothing too serious that affects him going forward.

One thing that I have noticed about the Wayne Co. coach is that he is really good defensively at taking away what the opposing offense wants to do. With that being said, I would expect him to really crowd the line of scrimmage and bring a lot of run blitzes. Knox Central may have to go to the air again this week to pull out the win. If they can be somewhat effective in their passing game and at least break even on turnovers, I believe they move on to the semifinals.

If Corbin is going to have a chance this week against Bell, they need a couple of players to get back to close to 100% healthy. If not, Corbin will struggle to score enough to win. I wouldn't count Bell Co. out the next couple of years, especially with the way Middlesboro is struggling. I expect some movement between the Bell Co. schools.

I'm not sure why, but Corbin seems to be disliked by all... I know a Pastor who moved to this area a few years ago from Central KY tell me that it didn't take him long to figure out that everyone at every other area school hated Corbin sports teams. I talked to him recently and he brought it up again, and said that he still has not figured out why. He compared Corbin to Israel.

Yes, it is their best season ever. Actually, this was their second playoff win in school history with last week obviously being their first. Congrats to the Jags!

Corbin struggled to put Casey Co. away in their earlier meeting, only leading 14-0 at the half. Casey Co. stopped Corbin's running game pretty effectively, but Sizemore had a big night throwing the ball and the Redhounds were able to pull away in the second half. Corbin 35 Casey Co. 7

I'm not sure that Knox beating Central was that much of an aberration, it was really more about matchups and style of play. Knox is a big, physical team that is really good against the run, but can be vulnerable to teams that can spread them out and have a balanced offensive attack. Offensively, they need to pound the ball with #44 as much as possible. I'm not sure what happened in the Wayne Co. game, but if the KHSAA stats are correct from that game, it looks like they forgot what they were good at. Maybe a KC fan can fill us in on the specifics of that game. That said, if Knox Central can get by Mercer Co. this week, I fully expect them to beat Wayne Co. if they meet again.
