Belfry 42 Corbin 14

Featured Replies

Corbin fought hard, but Belfry was just in a different class.

Pirates Varsity Offense scores on every posession as 4 different Belfry rushers find the endzone

Huge game from Willis and Fletcher.

6 Straight trips to Bowling Green

Cabell Midland plays tomorrow, but as of now 4 of Belfry's 10 regular season opponents are playing for a State Title. If #1 Cabell Midland defeats Capital tomorrow that will be HALF of Belfry's regular season schedule playing for a trophy...and Belfry went 4-1 and those 4 wins were in convincing fashion.

WOW!

Willis finishes with over 150 rushing and over 200 All-Purpose with 3 TD's. Kid is playing as good as any back in the State

Belfry is a well oiled Machine again this year. Congrats

Corbin was hard nosed, and well coached. They moved the ball really well at times but had trouble getting it into the end zone. Belfry had to work for everything they got and were just a better team, but this Redhound team impressed me and they absolutely never quit.

Additional Thoughts:

BELFRY

- Ray Horton's legacy continues to grow. Horton had 5 TFL's and a couple were absolutely huge in stopping Corbin momentum.

- Noah Corbett is playing ball at a very high level right now and the Offense is humming. Belfry is using 5 different rushing threats and all 5 played well. Corbett is reading it well and has settled into trusting his backs.

- Speaking of Corbett, his 52 yard TD pass was the first pass Belfry had attempted in over 10 Quarters. Another interesting stat, Belfry has a fantastic punter in Devin Wellman but he may be the most underutilized weapon in the State. It has been a looong time since Wellman was asked to punt in Varsity action. Possibly all the way back to Cabell Midland

- Belfry's LBers played a very nice game

Corbin

- The score doesn't do justice to the effort of Corbin and how they played on Offense. Hounds had a lot of success moving the ballon Belfry and the French kid played a whale of a game. Only one other game this year has a RB eclipsed the century mark on Belfry..French did it and he earned it. It wasn't like he had one long run..he was consistently good.

- Corbin returns essentially 9 each way and so does Belfry. I will go on record right now and say I will be SHOCKED if these two aren't playing this same time next year at Campbell Field.

I think Belfry punted once agaisnt Johnson Central, which was their last punt. I don't remember one in the playoffs.

Congrats, Belfry. If there weren't already roads from Pike County to Bowling Green, you guys would have worn out a path by now.

Since the Lawrence Co. scare in October, the Pirates have outscored their last seven opponents 340-60. Has Belfry ever been this dominant?

Reserve my judgment after this week

Belfry is 4-0 against teams who have already booked their ticket to State Finals games

1A Pikeville 42 Paintsville 23 *Belfry won 34-8

2A Newport Catholic 15 Danville 7 * Belfry won 28-10

4A Johnson Central 21 Wayne County 14 *Belfry won 41-0

TN 4A Knoxville Catholic 54 Marshall County 35 *Belfry won 38-14

Those are four very, very good teams that Belfry outscored a combined 141-32!

If Cabell Midland holds court tomorrow then literally HALF of Belfry's regular season opponents will be in their Respective State Championship game.

I am not sure I have ever seen anything like that before, especially at this small of a level of football.

With that said, myself and Tusi have both openly and freely admitted that Belfry didn't have what you would call a "Road to Perdition" in the Playoffs. Corbin is a year away and most other teams in the East were... well...flawed.

I have little doubt that LexCath, Central, or Boyle wouldn't have rolled like a buzzsaw with Belfry's 4 playoff games as well.

If Belfry comes out and makes a statement against LexCath, well then we can discuss superlatives... but right now I see Sunday as a toss-up and one of the most intriguing matchups of Finals weekend.

And to think, earlier this season there were many on this site that questioned the strength of Belfry's schedule. I figured the chances were pretty good that CM, Pikeville, NCC, and JC would all be playing deep into the playoffs, but Knoxville Catholic's somewhat unexpected postseason run* has added even more depth to the SOS.

*Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't they won the last couple of weeks as the underdog vs top ranked opposition?

They won in Round 2 vs. Defending Champs and #1 Fulton...Fulton had defeated them in the regular season but it was a game that KC was driving for the win late and threw a Pick 6

They defeated Greeneville in Round 3 who is a traditional powerhouse and entered with one loss. Most viewed that as a toss-up.

The team they beat this week only had 1 loss but KC was considered a favorite.

When Belfry played KC I labeled them as a hybrid of the best parts of LexCath and CovCath. As good as LexCath's receivers are they are not anywhere close to Amari Rodgers, but Rodgers also torched Belfry for basically all of KC's Offense.

Fast forward and I am not sure I gave LC enough credit...I think LexCath is a better Defensive team than Knoxville Catholic but KC is still a better Offensive team.

Belfry's DBs need to play the game of their career Sunday

The BIG RED TRAIN rolls again and now it is coming around the bend as it heads back to Bowling Green.

Congrats on another great run to the finals.

Congratulations to the Pirates. Corbin's defense just could not get enough stops to get off the field. They needed Belfry to help them out some with fumbles and penalties, but they just wouldn't do it.

I thought the Corbin offense played well, just need more big play ability to be able to finish off drives. I think they return 10 on the offensive side, plus have a WR back who missed the entire season, so maybe they will be a little more consistent next year.

Good luck to Belfry in the finals!
