  1. Apologies in advance if this was covered in another thread, but what is Coach Darpel's status for the Regional tourney? i understand she's having her baby. Thanks!
  2. Coach Martin is in a tough situation, IMO. He no doubt has a very talented QB. But, in the best interest of the team, throwing the ball might not be the best thing to do. If your defense isn't strong, incomplete's just stop the clock and provide more possible possessions for he opponents. If he can shore up the defense and find a few "possession" type receivers, they'll be ok and show improvement. As stick1 mentioned, these kids are finally getting the consistency they need in terms of staff. Coach Martin can certainly do it, it's going to be a matter of time.
  3. Could the Lady Reb's be feeling the pressure? A NDA/BC first round match would be interesting.
  4. As a former player for the "guy" Birds who sat through a few of Coach Shields' session in Coach Petty's room, sounds like Coach Richey has them sitting 2 wide off the rail coming to the head of the stretch. (I wonder if the Lady Birds will get 1 1st place vote in the coaches poll) Congrats Coach Richey and the rest of the Lady Birds on a great game and district championship.
  5. I would skip your friend and send it directly to the KHSAA. If it was as bad as you describe, this should be reviewed. And, as bluethunder noted, not only the offending player, but also the referee should be reprimanded (if deemed appropriate) There is no place in basketball for this type of action.
  6. That is a shadow from the light standard that is right behind the bleachers. As for the wavy lines, now you know why Dale always runs it wide when he's at that part of the field.
  7. Thanks for the heads-up. So, the Conner game was never "officially" on the schedule. Has anyone seen an "official" schedule, containing teams w/ signed contracts (not verbals) ?
  8. Yes. She is at home w/ a very sore back. Everything checked out at the hospital and she went home Friday night.
  9. I don't agree with you. As I've said in previous posts, HHS is not a team you want on the schedule if you have a struggling program. (see Grant Co. and Dale's "just practicing my onside kick by using it to open the game" play) That is just Dale's philosophy. (one that I personally don't agree with, having been on the receiving end of losses by coaches that practice Dale's philosophy and those that take a different approach) And, taking another angle, if Conner doesn't feel they can play with HHS, would you really want them on the schedule. To be the best you must play the best is mantra from most Birds fan. The big question I have is how much money are we going to get for the cancellation. I'm thinking this was a 2 year contract and there is usually language in the contract specifying a monetary penalty (or "buyout"). Anyone have any details? (of course, I may be wrong)
  10. I would expect that from freshman guards. They're freshman. That's when you need the other 4 players to step up and pick up the slack. In the end, with only 4 from Sandfoss, 8 points is hardly a comfortable margin. Considering some on the board were annointing this Boone club as the best ever in the 9th region, come regional time, a game like this could easily turn out differently. Congrats to Coach Fookes for the W. Getting to the 496 is quite an accomplishment in itself.
  11. Guru..are you taking into consideration that the publics are educating both males and females when you look at those enrollment numbers? If you add the number of females at Boone Co and Conner respectively, I would think the number of students would be on par w/ T and X. If I'm correct, that's one huge school to accomate that many kids to get the boy enrollment on equal grounds w/ T & X. Then again, I might be missing something.
  12. As for HHS, yes, the limitation is space. And, even with the school renovation, I think the turnover of the aging population will pose a threat to the availability of school to allow more tuition students. As for the "right coach"..forget X's and O's (though that does have a bearing). I think it's more about being able to relate and attract the athletes walking around the school, as well as establish "working" relationships with the other coaches (basketball/baseball). If you can get the "athletes" walking the halls to play football, you're well on your way. (see Henderson Co as a prime example of when it doesn't work/see HHS as an example of it working) IMO, Mike Mitchell never leaves if the current staff was in place at that time. I think CCHS is a ticking timebomb. If this next coach can build on last years success (more so with making football the "in" thing to play with ALL athletes than W's and L's), I think the rest of NKY might be in for a rough ride.
  13. Women's Basketball & Football (just another twist)
  14. IMO, if he ever wants the chance to be the head coach at HHS, he MUST get out and get head coaching experience. There are several HHS alums that have years of head coaching experience that would love to step in when Coach Mueller retires. Not to mention great coaches that don't have ties to HHS. I don't see how you can turn the reigns of a program like HHS over to a coach w/ no head coaching experience. Big difference between being an assistant and the head coach.
  15. Dennis Bradford - LB from the early 60's
  16. I think Tony Daugherty would be the first to admit that he would be on the team as an outside linebacker first. If memory serves, wasn't he a fullback. Ben Sutkamp as punter (and I'd put him on as the kickoff specialist for an almost automatic touchback)
  17. No more to the story. My point is that this is just another example of the C-J not doing Trinity any favors. Folks already accuse the paper of playing favorites and focusing more on the "Big 3" locally and not focusing on the other schools. On a not related note, there must be something up with his coaching style. It appears that hoosiers are the only people he can work with.
  18. Can someone, being objective, explain why this got ANY ink in the C-J? He was at Trinity for 1 year, and most T faithful, as the post on the message board on the C-J highlights, didn't feel he left the program better than he found it. But yet, the C-J finds space to report it. Can't wait to see what the other coaches that have left local schools are up to. Then again, it may have been an incredibly slow newsday.
  19. Here is her bio from Old Dominion: http://odusports.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/hill_celeste00.html Says she graduated in 94 from ODU. So, w/o a red-shirt, she was 90 Holmes grad. With on, an 89 grad. I would guess she was on those teams as an underclassman. I remember watching her play, and I graduated in 87.
  20. I can't seem to find a linescore from last night's came to see who didn't play. Sorry..I didn't mean to start something without having all the answers. As soon as I find out, I'll post.
  21. Sandy Johnson was a great player. I seem to remember her being slowed down by a knee injury. The image of a big knee brace always sliding down her leg while she played comes to mind. For my money, I'd stick with Walz as #1. Would have loved to have seen Donna Murphy play. Since I didn't, she'd be my #2 pick.
  22. is her last name Crawley? I'm not 100% sure.
  23. I would agree that, based on the direction they are going, CC would be a good matchup for HHS in the future.
