  1. I'm not going to get into this debate with everyone, but I was with a group in one of the suites, and there were two up-and-coming Birds (both 3rd graders) who were dogging we elders(including a couple of former HHS coaches) for saying we thought it hit the ground. When they saw the replay, the quietly agreed with us. It was clear from the replay it hit the ground and should have been ruled a non-catch. I don't know if we were privy to additional angles that were not shown on the big screen or not. I may be the only Bluebird on this thread that will admit that if that's waved off, things could have been different. HHS scores 15 points without CC seeing the ball. Do I think CC wins? No I don't. I thought HHS made the proper adjustments at the half to secure the victory...with or without points before the half. Good job Birds! Congrats on an outstanding year!
  2. After this incident, I struggle to think how the school could get insurance coverage. If they could, I would imagine the premiums would be adjusted. I hardly think so. Though the number of injuries may be greater in football, firing off a cannon in an of itself if a dangerous action. BW70, I'm guessing that the cannon shot off at Ft. Campbell may be a newer model than the one at HHS. Not sure...just guessing. Most importantly, prayers continue to go out to those involved in the accident. And BW70, please know that you and the rest of our troops are in our prayers as well. Thanks for your service!
  3. colonelmike, do you have stats? wonder how the Dragon's shot.
  4. Are you referring to those coaches on the payroll? Or do you want those that volunteer as well. (not including those 1000's in the stands and throughout the www)
  5. I rode by Friday night and was expecting to see the new field lit up, only to find them playing on the "old" field. Can anyone shed any light as to why the new field wasn't used? My thought was the turf wasn't ready yet.
  6. The big problem, as I see it, is that most 18 and 19 COULDN'T play for her. These kids are so used to be pampered, one scowl from Coach Summit would have them running back to their AAU coach/handler needing to have their ego stroked. If they could get through the pre-season and prove that they "want" to play for her...I would say the sky would be the limit for a Summit-coached team.
  7. First..CONGRATS to those young men from Trotwood. A great time for a social/coaching experiment. I would be interested to see what would happen if HHS and Trotwood would "swap" coaching staffs. Guys, until you walk a mile in the other person's shoes, I wouldn't start talking about them. Raiderbird, tell me more about the make-up of the Trotwood team. Tell me about the parents/fans that have the luxury of stepping out of work early to watch practice and support. How about the kids that have the luxury of not having to have a job in the summer and thus can devote the ENTIRE summer to football. I would encourage all of the coaching naysayers to adopt another team for a year. (if you have a child playing at HHS, please ignore until your child/children have graduated) Get involved and get active. You'll quickly find out that 1) There is no place like HHS (good and bad) 2) There is more "high school" talent walking the halls at HHS than anyone wants to admit. These kids are GOOD! If it was only as easy as saying coaching. I've stepped out and coached at a school with a 2nd year football program that had kids participating from all over the county and from all socio-economic backgrounds. Even after those 1st couple of rough years, it was never going to be, and never could be, like HHS. The dynamics make Ft. Thomas unique. If all of the young men from Trotwood are eligible as freshman, then I would say this coach has done a FANTASTIC job. It's about WAY more than State Championships for alot of kids (and parents/fans) Just my .02 worth.
  8. Were fouls 1 through 4 on Jones legit...or do you thing they might have been paying a little closer attention to her. Yes, one foul is her 5th, but she had to commit 4 others to get to that point. I saw her play once this year and she's a heck of a ballplayer.
  9. Does anyone have a box score? I'd be interested in shooting stats for South Oldham. Thanks!
  10. If you're going to seed the districts, seed the regional and the state. Let's stack the deck from the get go!! Make sure the top 2 teams in the district/region/state are in opposite brackets.
  11. I'd rather drop one now than in the regional. I'm sure Coach Richey will get them back in the groove.
  12. I would guess the girls saw the rankings and thought they could just show up. But, as I always say, I'd much rather play bad and win than to play bad and lose.
  13. and don't forget baseball, as well as the other sports (both boys and girls). I think all-around it was the best period.
  14. Here is the link providing information for the renovation that is taking place of Houchen's LT Smith Stadium on the beautiful campus of WKU. (yeah..I'm a little biased) http://www.wkusports.com/sports2.cgi?sports=smithstadium You can also view the live webcam to see progress. Again, I think, unless the Big East provides flexibility, we are stuck with a venue outside of Louisville. (but, I'd like to keep the KENTUCKY High School Athletic Association championships in the state of Kentucky, not move it to Ohio)
  15. I beg to differ...there is ONE good reason for the move. PJCS might not be available. I think that's a pretty good one. If the Big East won't relent, then, unless I'm misreading it, there are two options. Push it back one more week (a bye week after the semi's) OR find a new venue. I guess we could move it next door to the Fairgrounds. The coaches could still get to enjoy the stay in the Ville. Plenty of parking, not to mention the hotels. And the field surface....oh my!!
  16. It was great to see all the guys from the 82 Championship team on the field at the half. I realized afterwards that there were even some in attendance celebrating the 45th anniversary of the '62 Championship (Roger Walz and Jim Burt) Here is a picture:
  17. You know what...something tells me you're onto something. I seem to remember one of teams having a starter play during halftime...and Newport would be the school.
  18. BIG difference between begin an assistant at HHS and the head coach at another school. (not to mention the head coach at HHS) You have to question his desire to be a head coach if he's not willing to step out and prove himself. Then again, I'm quite confident I won't be on the search committee.
  19. Was the CC game in 1975 a home game. That one stings..even for my young eyes at the time. And yes, there were a few during the mid-late 80's. Off topic quickly... He was the HC at Scott County before moving back to FT. But to your point, that's why I think the Scott HS job is a perfect one for Coach Weinrich to go after. Build on the momentum and get that valuable head coaching experience. (not to mention bring over the ever-so-important work ethic and prove that all that's missing at all the schools in NKY is hard work. ) After that, if/when Dale decides the hang up the whistle, he'll be ready.
  20. Let's hope not! Those subs worked just as hard during practice. Let 'em play!
  21. Did it go out when Coach Duffy implemented the "running around the goalpost" when leaving the locker room? The year prior to the construction (1986 football season), we were running through the "gauntlet". Regardless, I don't think of the cannon of the 12th man. I think the fans place more emphasis on it than the players.
  22. Congrats to the Pioneers. The best freshman team in Northern Kentucky this year won this game. Get those heads up Birds! You lost to a better team. No shame in that.
  23. Wouldn't the practice schedule have changed if HHS was hosting the game? Or would it have been played on a different night? I just don't see a big deal about this. Dale is one of the best coaches in the state. He could change his practice time to before school and he'd have the team ready for the game. He's doing what I would hope all other coaches would do if their frosh team was playing in the championship. Go Luck Birds!
