  1. Kinda surprised that Dale would take that approach. Doesn't really give the varsity a good look and only puts a kid in harms way (hence the reason he's been playing freshman all year and not varsity or JV). Can anyone confirm that this is indeed what might happen to a freshman? Oh the rewards of being moved up.
  2. The Mustangs need to be represented. I'm going w/ a North Oldham victory. 28-21. NO has been playing well as of late.
  3. at Trimble. NO is on the road the rest of the regular season.
  4. Does anyone have a report of a player who attended one of the "showcases"? I'd be interested to hear how it went and how the exposure was. (number of coaches, big name schools, etc)
  5. Thanks! That's what I get for trusting the C-J. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007709290543 North Oldham 30, South Oldham 22: Chris Dudley returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and added 86 yards rushing and another score as the host Mustangs (3-2) beat the Dragons (3-3) for the first time in 10 years. Ryan Gallas added 123 yards rushing and a score for North Oldham, which took a 13-0 first-quarter lead. Quarterback Drew Simpson rushed for three touchdowns for South Oldham.
  6. I'm never been an official but have been a coach in that situation. As long as we were coaching, we were given a little lee-way, provided we weren't in the way of the actual play. Now, as soon as we started "questioning", we were told to get back on the sidelines.
  7. Yes. This is a first in the history of North Oldham HS. (10 years, I believe) I heard that the atmosphere at the game was great. Which, if you ever driven by on a game night, you know isn't always the case. I'm hoping that once the new stadium is built, we'll have more nights like that. Congrats NOHS and keep the momentum going.
  8. Look at the KHSAA go! Good job! Good luck to all the girls who will participate in these events. Here's hoping a scholarship or two is secured by attending.
  9. WOW! Air conditioning in the classrooms, not being able to find room in the dirt in the valley to practice...what's going on up there. Now..if construction equipment is on the field...by all means move the game. If it truly is for the varsity to practice, that's a darn shame. Those kids deserve the home game, IMO.
  10. That's right. And, if you have a player who's good enough to legitimately play in these "Elite" camps, they can afford to skip them and not harm their chance of a scholly. I would agree ladiesbballcoach. This was instituted as a result of a few (or many..I don't know) coaches "requiring" their kids to participate in non-school teams during the offseason, hence harming their chance to play other sports. I personally feel that this should apply to soccer as much as any sport. Those kids go year round. What's good for the goose.....
  11. BlueChip, I think that's exactly what Coach Barr is doing. He's getting those kids to put the streak as far out their mind (if that's possible) as he can and just have fun playing a game they love. And you see the results. This isn't his first dance. I'm sure he realizes that those outside the freshman program bring the "'streak" up, but he'll continue to keep the kids grounded and more than likely, the streak will continue. He's a great coach who doesn't get near the credit he deserves, IMO.
  12. Watusi, I stand corrected. Thanks for keeping me straight. If found guilty of truly doing this, start with Travis and/or Noland at the KY BOE, and then let the committee take care of cleaning up the KHSAA.
  13. I'd start with those on the payroll, and go from there. This was once a credible organization. No reason it's can't get back to that. I will admit, my opinion is based on the actions of a few, but you know what they say about the company you keep. If no one at the KHSAA thinks that what Travis or Noland is telling people about nominees is wrong, shame on them. Someone needs to step up and clean house. And if they're afraid to clean their own house, someone needs to do it for them. My .02 worth.
  14. Is anyone on this thread really surprised? I'm not. They should clean house and start from scratch. These people amaze me. Are they living in the stone ages and think this information isn't going to become public? Oh..the smell has made it's way to Oldham County...and it's bad!
  15. Your son is not only playing both sports, but when football isn't in season, he's playing 2 sports at once. WOW!! Quick question...is the weight-lifting going on all spring or just during spring football? But, even you realize that, in order for the baseball team to head in the right direction, HHS is going to have to find a few kids that are willing to do that. I contest that baseball will continue to struggle if that type of commitment is needed to play football and baseball. Are there any 3-sport kids at HHS anymore? (one of them being football) But I digress, this is the football thread...back to spring ball.
  16. I totally agree. That's exactly what we did. The only kids we had were the ones that didn't play spring sports. It's not an easy situation. One that a lot of the larger schools take for granted. IMO
  17. I've coached in a similar situation to Bellevue's. (numbers-wise) In the end, we realized we needed to practice. Some years we could only work half-line during scrimmage situations. But, in the end, it was a great opportunity to work on individual drills and give the kids the one-on-one instruction they needed.
  18. Are kids expected to participate in both? Or is this a facilities issue as to why practices have to be coordinated. I ask because, as you pointed out in the previous post, spring ball is "critically important to a player's chances of being on the field come fall". I think we would all struggle to find a high school kid that would choose baseball (maybe he's a "role" player but could contribute to the baseball team) choose baseball over spring ball knowing that not participating would cost him playing time in the fall. If the kids are expected to participate in both, baseball will continue to struggle. IMO.
  19. A simple email to Mike Fields of the Lex Her-Leader would do very nicely. He's a classy guy and would probably cover it in his Friday column. LMB, I certainly don't deserve an apology from her. But, as her own mother mentioned, there are a lot of young girls who look up to her. Girls that might not be in the classrooms where she works in during the 2nd half of the school day when she apologizes to those girls. Girls that might ask their parents "Why were people booing Rebecca?" Well, if those parents aren't members of BGP, they don't know that she is feeling remorse. Contrary to many, the world is a bigger place than BGP. And we'll have to disagree that it's not a big deal.
  20. No doubt! Awesome parents. But, to complete the loop, an apology from her is next. I don't think her parents are going to step up and accept the Ms BB award for her, and as awesome as the letter above is from her parents (those are the type of parents that I look up to), in the end it's on Rebecca's shoulders. I wouldn't doubt the letter has already been written. Congrats on a great high school career! Good luck playing this summer and nothing but the best in the Carolina Blue!
  21. And let's not forget, this is a 1-game season. You can throw the records out the window. On paper, the LadyBirds don't have a chance. But, they don't play it on paper. And, as my old coach used to say, many a sphincter has tightened up this time of year. Heart says LadyBirds at the wire, head says NDA by 15+.
  22. As NCCCrazy said, I think the pressure is on NDA. Highlands has absolutely nothing to loose in this one. If they come out loose, and the shots fall, they might have a chance. I think this one is NDA's to loose.
  23. Could this play into why BC doesn't have more regional titles? Every year they are ranked at or near the top of the region. I have the utmost reprect for Coach Fookes, but sometimes I wonder if they don't wilt under the "pressure from within". Congrats to both teams and am looking forward to the matchup Friday night. Tall order for the Birds, but will be a great "experience" for them.
  24. Highlands up 32-24 at the half. (thanks sportsrbest )
