Coach Wright....Union, OK...resigns...

Featured Replies

Former Trinity coach quits Oklahoma job

Associated Press

One-time Trinity football coach Kevin Wright, who left a premier high school coaching job in Indiana to take a similar one in Oklahoma, resigned yesterday as the coach at Union High School in Tulsa after only one season.

Wright, 42, resigned as the coach at one national prep football power, Warren Central in Indianapolis, in March to coach another at Union, a school that had won the Class 6A title three times in the previous four seasons and won in 52 of its previous 55 games.

Can someone, being objective, explain why this got ANY ink in the C-J? He was at Trinity for 1 year, and most T faithful, as the post on the message board on the C-J highlights, didn't feel he left the program better than he found it. But yet, the C-J finds space to report it.

Can't wait to see what the other coaches that have left local schools are up to.

Then again, it may have been an incredibly slow newsday.

Wright left the best job in Indiana for a $100,000 a year high school job at an Oklahoma power. He resigns the job after less than a year on the job. This newsworthy because of his short tenure at Trinity and the CJ is also considered a southern Indiana paper.

That's a reach...a BIG reach.

Not sure what your problem with the C-J running this story is.

Are you saying there's more to the story than is being reported?

Do you simply have a problem with the characters involved?

You know, you don't have to read it. :D

No more to the story.

My point is that this is just another example of the C-J not doing Trinity any favors. Folks already accuse the paper of playing favorites and focusing more on the "Big 3" locally and not focusing on the other schools.

On a not related note, there must be something up with his coaching style. It appears that hoosiers are the only people he can work with.

I am glad...he was our coach, we are the premier program....I think it deserves attention.

IMO, the CJ declares the "misfortunes" of former local football coaches (either HS or college) newsworthy on regular basis. If you read the "Notebook" section during the college football season written by Jody Demling, he often takes shots at Hal Mumme, Guy Morris, and John L. Smith. Taking shots might be overstating, but trust me he never seems to fit them into print when they do something right. For some reason he feels like local readers want to hear that stuff.

I really hate to hear this for Coach Wright. It brings up a statement that a great coaching friend of mine told me years ago in regards to jobs and the lure of "better" jobs.

"Sometimes there is NO better job than the one you've got!!"

No more to the story.

They do focus on the Big 3 more. Anyway, what is up with this guy? He has not had any proven stability in the past 10 years. Did he leave for a better job?

Is there room for Kevin on the Trinity staff wrt the salary cap and all?????

That was clever. :D

"most T faithful" ? Where do you get that? One post from someone that doesn't even claim to be a T fan. Talk about "reaching". Coach Wright is a fine man and a very good coach. I don't know of any Trinity football fan that has any negative feelings towards Kevin. I don't know what his situation in Tulsa was, but I'd be willing to bet he will be back coaching very soon if that is what he chooses to do. Just the facts.

^ I like Coach Wright very much, and wish him nothing but the best no matter where he ends up...unless it's X (note to the Xaverians, if you can get him, you should.).

RockPride! Don't give X any good ideas. I like Glasier at X. He is doing a fine job there! I wish the best for Coach Wright...
