  1. The floor used to have a lot more maroon in the lanes, center circle, etc. I think now that it is just wood (and lightly stained in many parts) it shows up as more bright on television.
  2. The KHSAA is using the 15th Region for what appears to be a test run for all schools playing in the region. They did the same thing with the 15th about a decade ago for one year. I don't really know why they are doing this, unless it has something to do with modifications after the next realignment. It was in the last Board of Control meeting but I don't have any details beyond that. As for soccer, there are only six teams in the 15th Region that play soccer. I'm guessing a district tournament and region tournament would have essentially been the same teams playing each other twice in a week. I can understand why they would just hold a region tournament instead.
  3. It was never close. DCA led 25-0 after one and 48-7 at the half. Their first half was about a good as you can play.
  4. Shawnee headed to the region tournament for the first time since 2011.
  5. KCD still looking for their first region appearance since 1991. They field a solid team most seasons but they are in an extremely difficult district.
  6. This district has produced quite a few upsets over the years but DeSales seems like the much better team this time around. Have to think the Colts win comfortably.
  7. There's been some heavy chatter about an upcoming basketball realignment. I hope this is something that is fixed. With the influx of several private schools in recent years there should be enough schools to assure there aren't any 3-team districts, although as @rjs4470 and @16thBBall Fan both said, you sometimes have schools that don't field a team, making a 3-team district necessary for that particular year.
  8. Wayne, Monticello, McCreary, Pine Knot. In 1975 they moved into a three-team district along with Lincoln County and Casey County. When the Mercer schools moved in during the early 1980s, Russell was placed back with Wayne, Monticello, and McCreary. Russell lost to Danville in the 1969 region tournament, Hazel Green in 1970, Laurel County in 1972, and then Garrard County in 1977. So they were a semi-regular participant during your era.
  9. Russell County was always in the 12th Region. It opened in the fall of 1953 and stayed in the 12th until being moved to the 4th Region in 2005. Even before consolidation, both Jamestown and Russell Springs both played in the 12th Region dating to the early 1930.
  10. The last two years they've went in as potential region favorites and lost in the first round of the district. Does coming in as an underdog benefit Western this time around?
  11. Mercer, Harrodsburg, and Burgin came into the region in 1982. The Laurels and Russell both left and Jessamine entered in 2006. I doubt Russell County will return just because they're central time and no one else in the region is.
  12. Per the Scoreboard. Pretty big upset, right? Russellville came in 5-25 while Franklin-Simpson was 14-12 and the top seed in the tournament.
  13. Guest was held to 5 points and really only had one good look. Garrard defended and rebounded well, in particular senior Chris Jones who hasn't played much this season but has very really solid the last few weeks. It always helps to make shots and Garrard shot it pretty well most of the night.
  14. It will all depend on how the impending statewide basketball realignment shakes out. I can't help but think both the 9th and 11th Regions will lose some teams to balance the load. Depending on who leaves the 11th and where they go, it could have major ramifications on the 12th Region.
  15. Nice win for Garrard County over Danville tonight. Golden Lions led the entire way, coasting to a 69-52 win. Nice performance from junior guard Jay Noe who scored 33 points. Danville never seemed to get into any offensive flow while Garrard shot it well most of the evening. Golden Lions will definitely have their hands full on Thursday against DCA.
  16. Guest scored 28 in the first meeting and 22 in the second, hitting 8 three-pointers in 17 attempts across both games. Garrard will have to defend, control the pace, and make shots. This should be a good game - it usually is when these two get together.
  17. I believe there were multiple fan ejections from their district tournament matchup last season.
  18. Lots of fascinating stats here about the Ballard program. I know they aren't as good as usual, but something in me says the Bruins get a first round win this evening.
  19. 4-29 postseason record. First rounds wins in 2000, 2010, 2012, and 2013.
  20. I’ll add, I don’t think 10 teams can win three games in a row (that number is smaller), but a couple first round upsets could put the entire tournament in disarray.
  21. Down year for Madison Central but they have an extremely young roster. Three leading scorers are juniors and seniors but almost everyone else is a sophomore. I suspect they'll be back near the top of the 11th Region in a year or two.
  22. Estill County has wins over Perry Central and now Breathitt County on consecutive Fridays. The Engineers were routed by Hazard a few weeks ago, but they look capable of winning a couple games in the region and if Hazard gets upset, who knows...
  23. Not sure you can eliminate anyone in the 12th Region this year. DCA is definitely the team to beat, but they've have had close games with Lincoln, Boyle, Somerset, even Garrard in the last month. There's a list of about nine schools in the region capable of beating any of the others in the region on any given night.
  24. I haven't been in a few years but a friend went last fall and said the exact same thing. For those who might not know, Russell County had a combined football/baseball field. The football field stretched across the baseball outfield from foul pole to foul pole. A new football field has been built beyond the right field line of the baseball field. Below is an in-progress picture from Google Maps.
  25. They aren't exactly a traditional power, but they've had some good teams and good coaches over the years. Ron Finley was there from 1976-86, winning two district titles, before starting the football program at Campbellsville University. Rodney Johnson was there 13 years in the 1990s-early 2000s and had nine winning seasons. Bill Sharp won 9, 11, and 10 games a season between 2010-12. Russell County has traditionally had excellent baseball teams and solid basketball teams, although the move from the 12th Region to the 4th Region slowed some of their basketball success. Football has always seemed like their third interest, but as you can see above, it isn't an impossible place to have success.
