  1. I'll second that part about the QB. His name is Amis. He ran the P-burg defense ragged last year and came close to beating the Blackcats almost by himself. No one has heard of him because he's very small and more of a runner than a passer. Not much call for 5'7" running QB's in the college ranks.
  2. Tony Burchett made a name for himself as a line coach. He's taught some very good ones at P-burg (80's), Sheldon Clark and Lawrence Co. (90's), and lately Johnson Central (00's). This year he took a head coach position at Powell Co.
  3.  Nice win for the Rebels...they're putting together a nice season. They'll be the favorite next wk. vs. Paintsville.
  4. Quality win for the Pirates. Sounds like it was a great game. :thumb:

  7. No, that's P-burg's standard offense this year. It's built around Michael Burchett and the passing game. The Blackcats have a number of good athletes, but no true RB. And I agree with you about taking Fugate off the defense. Absolutely.
  8. No kidding. I was amazed at how lopsided many thought this one would be in the "prediction" thread. Ashland and Belfry are about as evenly matched as possible. It would be 5-5 in a 10 game series between the two.
  9. At the end of the 1st half, Breathitt Co. was driving after an INT. They ran out of time at the end of the half before they could punch it in. The end of the game was P-burg taking a knee after INT of a Haddix "Hail Mary". Both of you have it right.
  10. With that edition of the wing-t the Dawgs run, I hope he gets plenty of choreography time before he tries to play it. Every snap has a LOT of guys going every which way - it can't be easy to pick up.
  11. This one was only 12-6 at the half. Bell Co. scored early after the break. Central fumbled on two consecutive possessions. Game decided. Central played a little better in this one, but it's not going to turn for the Eagles until they hold on to the football. Bell Co.'s offense is very well-balanced. Nice win by the Bobcats.
  12. Why would you say that ? Prestonsburg won this game last year, also. This outcome isn't too much of an upset, especially for early in the season. The Bobcats WILL make noise in 3A this year. Mark my words.
  13. Very nice win - great to see the Bulldogs back up !! I watched this one (I live between these 2 schools). Couldn't make P-burg game (don't ask...BAD last 24 hrs.), though I listened to it while I watched this one. LOL... I have a headache after tracking them at once.... :thumb:
  14. Wasn't able to make the game (don't ask - terrible last 24 hrs), but heard every play on WQHY... Basically... Breathitt Co.'s Fugate and Haddix went wild 1st half, accruing something on the order of 300 yds. 2nd half, they were fenced in (what a defensive adjustment by P-burg's staff !!), gaining around 1/3 of that for the remainder. For Prestonsburg, QB Michael Burchett hit open spots in the Bobcat zone spreading out the ball. In the 2nd half, that happened again, again, and again. Very cool customer, he was. Point of highest drama: Breathitt Co. with 25-20 lead, 4th and 1 at midfield, 3:30 remaining. Coach Holcomb tried to ice it, going for the 1st down. Haddix mishandles the snap - Prestonsburg recovers. The Blackcats methodically pass it short downfield for the winning TD. With 1:30 remaining, Breathitt Co.'s final drive was stopped by a Burchett INT on a bomb attempt at the 5. I must compliment this absolute gutsy performance by Prestonsburg. The Blackcats were down 25-7 early in the 3rd. There was no quit as evidenced by the outcome. Even if P-burg had come up on the short end, what a gut check this team passed tonight !! :ylsuper: :ylsuper:
  15. Thanks for the numbers !!! :ylsuper: I wish someone on Breathitt's staff would take the time to submit info to riherds.com. It could make a difference in getting a look from a college for some of the players - ya never know.
  16. Put brats over fire until they're brown and begin to bubble/run through cracks in casing. Put on bun. Add sauerkraut and brown mustard. Or... without the bun, sauerkraut, and mustard is good, too. Works well with cch's recipe above... or, any other cold or hot beverage.
  17. Scott Co. St. X John Hardin Mayfield GRC Carroll Co. Madison Central Prestonsburg Hopkins Co. Central W. Jessamine TB - 42
  18. 7 - Bath Co. 5 - Rockcastle Co. 3 - North Laurel 2 - Prestonsburg 1 - Belfry TB - Bath Co.
  19. Yes...I think you're right. The big key will be Ashland's effectiveness on defense in getting its offense enough possessions. Coach Haywood's offense can take a LOT of time off the clock in looong drives.
  20. Good discussion topic !!! In the P-burg/Paintsville game, a kick returner for the Tigers let the kickoff go, expecting it to go out of bounds. Instead the ball died at the 3 about a foot in-bounds. Instead of picking up the ball, he just stood there - he obviously didn't know it was a live ball. It was recovered by the kicking team.
  21. I saw both teams in person last year. Raceland's defense last year was NOT as good as Belfry's (though Raceland's offense was better). With the Ram's personnel losses, I assume they've not improved. Belfry's graduation losses hurt them more on the offensive side (though some defense affect, grant you). Ashland may win the game, certainly, but it won't be because the Pirate defense "will not be a factor". :bunny:
  22. It didn't do him in yet... Simpson didn't play today after hurting his ankle.
  23. This will be the Honey Bowl in Jackson. Prestonsburg was an upset winner in last year's matchup of these two teams. The Blackcats are 2-0 with wins over Belfry and Paintsville. QB Michael Burchett has completed 20/29 passes for 385 yds and 5 TD's. Breathitt Co. will be looking for payback after last year's upset loss and this past week's upset loss to Sheldon Clark. The Bobcats are 1-1 with the previous week's win over Mercer Co. and feature All-State RB candidate Channing Fugate (no stats listed with riherds.com).
  24. Huh ?!?... Belfry's defense is better than Raceland's. Take that to the bank...
