  1. Haddix on a BIG run. QB draw. TD Breathitt Co... XP no good Central 27 Breathitt Co. 13
  2. I noticed that... You "at the last minute" players got a break with my having to work away from a computer this morning. That forced me to make my picks last night keeping me from locking anyone out. You all could "pick your poison".
  3. 7 - Highlands 5 - Trinity 3 - Beechwood 2 - Central 1 - Ft. Campbell TB - Highlands
  4. Most people refer to a "blowout" win nowadays as one involving a running clock. But you're right, of course, it depends on one's own definition. Mine is...a spread of 5+ scores (33+ points), not including any late gimme score from the loser. My reasoning: more than 1 score/quarter rolling into a lead implies complete control of a game from start to finish. :bunny:
  5. You make it sound as though Paintsville has won in the past with multiple 40+ point margins. The reality is Paintsville NEVER "ran up the score on a weak JC program". The Tigers had only ONE blowout win, 35-0 (in 1978). As a matter of fact, prior to the Matney era the Eagles held the record for the most lopsided victory, 56-12 (in 1993). Check out the series history here: http://www.phsaa.com/Apple%20Bowl%20History/apple_bowl_history_4.htm
  6. 1A - Beechwood 2A - Ft. Campbell 3A - Breathitt Co. 4A - Bullitt East 5A - Christian Co. 6A - Trinity TB - 48
  7. And you've waited how many years to ask that question ?!? :sssh:
  8. All the vinegar we're reading seems to be in direct contradiction to previous Central fans' assertions that its team has moved on from the days when "beating Paintsville" defined a successful season. If this is the case, it makes one wonder if Central football could possibly lose a degree of focus in not having the Apple Bowl (ie...enjoy a Paintsville "beat down"). I find all this incredibly disappointing... :creepy:
  9. Well, that's good. Aww...pay not attention to me. It's not as if the way you all deal with Ashland is any of my business anyway.
  10. It's a HUGE factor. That, and the coaching merry-go-round Tiger football has on this decade. :bunny:
  11. As much as I like Raceland, signing that deal is upsetting... :irked: Ashland refused to continue the series with my team because Prestonsburg wouldn't cave to Ashland's insistance on playing both games in Putnam Stadium. It's far past time for the Tomcats to realize they are NOT the dominant force they were many years ago and treat with other schools on an equal basis. But I suppose as long as teams like Raceland will allow it, the Tomcats will continue just the same. Can't blame Ashland when they get away with it. It would be like blaming a spoiled child for getting whatever it wants. :sssh:
  12. Central Middle School has an excellent academic team, I agree. The involved faculty does a great job of teaching/coaching the best of its bright students in forming a concentrated middle school team (from 5 elementary schools). You can attribute Paintsville's better test scores to demographics if you wish. I'll say it's because Paintsville's students answered more questions correctly. Either way, the standardized tests encompass the entire student body. Agree completely with your last paragraph. Both football teams will be better off playing better suited competition. :thumb:
  13. Best synopsis of the situation comes from someone unfamiliar with any of it !! Very, very well put. :thumb:
  14. Union Co. should be congratulated on a fine season. It's good to see the Warriors emerge from football no-man's land and start something in Morganfield !! :thumb:
  15. I don't think there's really any "blame" involved. In all fairness, Belfry's team has "walked the walk" many times. Maybe there is some complacency, but I doubt it's avoidable with Belfry's recent years of success. OTOH, sometimes a win just isn't meant to be. Three turnovers in the red zone is a pretty good indicator. I wouldn't be so hard on the team - they've earned the benefit. And being hard on the fans serves no real purpose.
  16. Surprised, but not completely shocked at this outcome. Excellent defensive game plan. The Bobcats did whatever it took to stop the dive play and forcing the QB to keep or pitch. The Bobcats were fast enough to close inside to out to limit damage wide. Forget defending the pass with anything but man coverage. Mr. Fugate was the offensive gameplan. And it was just enough. (Here's hoping my favorite team gets to play the defending 3A Champions next year !!) :thumb: :thumb: Belfry...what can be said ? Just...sometimes the turnovers come at the worst possible times. I'm sure it makes it especially tough after having the offense take good care of the ball this year. Turnovers (and holding) are absolute killers of Haywood's drive-oriented offense. This one just wasn't fated for the Red. But still, GREAT ride this year for the Pirates. Congratulations to you all ! (I'm hoping my favorite team will resume playing you guys again, also) :bunny:
  17. There you go. Central's program is now past that (or should be). A split-squad scrimmage game would benefit the Eagles more.
  18. Other benefits ?? None of the ones you gave was a real football reason - they only had to do with $$. As far as #3 goes, Paintsville will have no problem filling the "gap" in its schedule.
  19. You've been saving up for awhile... :jump: There's no denying Paintsville football benefitted greatly from county students attending PHS (and I remember no denial of that). But, you've gone much too far. The Paintsville school system is NOT suffering a financial hardship from lack of county athletes attending the city school. What hardship is present is due to the education cuts from the state. Paintsville, being a small school, suffers more in relation to these cuts. In academics not so long ago, Central was among the WORST ranked academic schools in the region/state. Fortunately with "No Child Left Behind" reforms, Johnson Central has improved greatly to now being in the upper 1/2 of schools regionally. But to be clear...at NO point has Central ever approached Paintsville's level in academic excellence. While I'm sure there are parents who feel Central is "good enough" now (in regard to academics), those that want their child in the BEST school will send them to downtown Paintsville. The ONLY high school in the region that is Paintsville's academic peer is Pikeville.
  20. I'd suggest setting it up the same way Prestonsburg originally did with Beechwood. Play it in Jayne Stadium at Morehead State... :thumb:
