I figured the defense would be pretty good, but the coaching staff has done a superb job in matching the offense style to its personel. Burchett has been doing an excellent job in taking what defenses are giving. This team is a rarity among EKY teams in that it really has no true running back. Rather, it puts its athletes at the wings and wideouts and plays with speed. And yes, the Belfry/Sheldon Clark game ought to be a GOOD one. :thumb:

Uhhhh.... And here I thought Toots keeping me up on the game was his way of apologizing for where he made me sit - between a band of hoodlums (escorted from the game, btw) and a very stinky creek. I really didn't want to expose my head. :ohbrother:

They may be one of the 5 best at this point in time (regardless of class).

7 to 7 defensive struggle until the final few mins. of the 3rd qtr. Prestonsburg drives a long field on the arm and legs of Michael Burchett to go up 14-7. In the 4th quarter, the fireworks began. Prestonsburg intercepted a screen pass and took it in to go up 21-7. Sheldon Clark then with a pretty drive, mixing the pass and run to close to 21-13. Prestonsburg once again drives deep into Cardinal territory, coming away with a 32 yd. Jamerson FG (P-burg 24-13). Sheldon Clark runs the ensuing KO back for a 93 yd. TD. Sheldon Clark called for movement on the 2pt try, and also get backed up 15 more for arguing the call (SC QB lost his cool) - the try ends up no good. Prestonsburg was moving the ball on the ground to ice the clock, but fumbled on the Sheldon Clark 40. With less than 1 min. to play, Prestonsburg intercepts around midfield. P-burg downed the ball to run out the clock. Very entertaining football game !!! Prestonsburg 24 Sheldon Clark 19

I think someone elsewhere put it best. Belfry isn't rebuilding this year, rather, they're "reloading". Either way, the Pirates are looking good for this time of year. :thumb:

This one was close until halftime. Central then dominated after the break. I think the Eagles ended up with > 500 yds. of offense (if I'm remembering the post-game wrapup correctly).

Wow... !!! If there's one "lock" on a State Title in the classes, it's the Falcons. Wish I lived close enough to see them in person. :banana:

And boy...do I hate that rule. Enforcing a re-kick from 5 yds. further back is much, MUCH better IMO. Special teams is every bit as much a part of the game as is offense and defense. I don't understand why the rules allow the kicking team an -almost- free pass vs. a runback. :irked:

It's only a rebuilding year from the perspective of what 2003-05, and to a lesser extent 2006-08, has seen there. On a longer view, the six year run the Pirates have had has been exceptional, not the rule. But FWIW, at this point in the season, I think this Belfry team is looking better than the 2006 squad. :thumb:

And PLEASE... No more talk of a "rebuilding year" in Pond Creek, OK ?!? :thumb:

For the record... This is the FIRST Rebel win in the history of this matchup EVER. Nice job Rebels !!! Beat Pikeville next week and that gets BOTH the monkeys off your back... :ylsuper:

Prestonsburg did most of the damage with the run and short, outside passing game. Pikeville was dropping 6-7 into pass coverage. Pikeville's lone score came on a KO return. The Panther QB looks like a good player, but didn't get much chance to show it tonight as the P-burg defense spent most of the game in the backfield. Burchett with a lot of passing yds due to yds after catch on WR screens and tosses to the wingback in the flat. :thumb:

The Redhound defense pitches a shutout...and there's only mention lack of offensive production ?!? DEFENSE is where it's at with this Corbin team. Not many points are needed when a defense plays like that. Great job !!

(many yrs. ago, my fav. team lost a State Championship on a block that was much like that - it was flagged as a "hold") This may be the best of the really good LCA teams we've seen over the past few yrs.. :thumb:

Don't be throwing stones... Central has showed nothing to date to make anyone think they're the team you seem to be implying ("hang with JC" ?!?). Don't get me wrong, JC has good players. However, consistantly losing the football is just as much a fundamental problem as is incorrect blocking/tackling technique. The turnover bug is bad luck if it's one or two games. But if it's consistantly being seen in every game, it's obviously not being addressed/fixed (whether that fix is technique or different personel).

(Breathitt Co. is 3A, not 2A) Unless the Bobcats have found a third person to involve in the offense, LCA will pull away in the 2nd half.
