First of all, I said there is NO five yard rule in high school like the one that exists in the NFL, so we agree. You stated the rule correctly, but not the interpretation. Referees are taught that as long as the receiver has not reached the same yard line as the defender, he can be hit because he is still a potential blocker. That is straight from Matt Young, one of the best referees in NKY, who is now doing college; he also added that defenses underutilize the ability to hit receivers. Cshs81 is correct that a receiver running a crossing route, by definition-no longer a threat to block, cannot be hit either. I also might add that there is no "uncatchable" rule for interference like so many fans like to argue.

No, in your original post, you mentioned a 5 yard rule. There is no 5 yard rule in high school like there is in the NFL. A defensive player can hit a player all the way down the field as long as the ball is not in the air.

When the ball is in the air, that is a different story, and you didn't say that in your original post. You can have your back to the QB all you want, as long as you don't hit or grab the receiver when the ball is in the air or faceguard. Plus, very few balls are in the air in the 1st five yards of a receiver's route; even the short routes stop at 6 or 7 yards and come back to 5.

Comparing this year's X team to last year's is fools' gold; the defense returns 9 of 11 starters from last year, so they are much more experienced and battle tested. The QB is as good as I have seen at X; his arm is not quite as strong as the Schoeneft kid at Ohio State, but he is much more accurate and more heady. 07 X is much better than the 06 X team who was handled by Colerain in the playoffs. The defense is loaded and the offense is much more potent.

They do dress similar numbers, but X dresses all Juniors and Seniors minus 2 sophomores, a 6-4 QB and a 260 lb. OT.

Did Moeller play juniors? Traditionally the JV team is all sophomores.

Murray is very good, but to compare him to Kramer is silly; they are completey different kinds of runners. Murray is North-South physical runner with good speed. Kramer is lightning quick, stop on a dime and change directions, and fast. Both do things the other can't. Clark is very, very good as well; he is a little more elusive and a little faster than Murray whereas Murray is a little stronger; they are very comporable. Anderson is comporable to Kramer- a little faster than Kramer; Kramer is a little quicker. Beaumont is head and shoulders above any of these guys.

After the 1st hit, all that emotion means very little; it comes down then to executing the game plan, and no one has a better resume than Mike Yeagle.

It means they are not the 3rd team in the country; Texas vs. OH teams are 1-1 the last two years.

Male is very good, but their are 3+ teams in Cincinnati that would beat them, and about 5 or 6 in OH that would beat them. Another 3 or 4 teams that played in Cincinnati for the Herbstreit Challenge would also beat them; rating high school teams accurately is impossible.

Elder's JV team was all sophomores; they will have plenty of Jr's from last season waiting in the wings. I hope CCH wins; it won't happen though.

They would've crushed any KY team last season and would do the same this year.

Did Dixie come close to winning the State Title? They lost to Boone who lost to Scott Co. who lost by about 5 TD's to X in the finals. T apparently was not a typical T team that year.

Highlands's line isn't small, and I agree with DMZ76- 45-14.

How come the numbers for these 4A schools in NKY aren't working to their advantage like they claim it works for X and T's advantage????

Understood, I just enjoy seeing them expanding their horizons; they are great, but there is so much more out there to be had. (And the rest of the state is worried about a public/private imbalance-that is funny.)

Why no big dogs from Cincy? They are playing teams from all over the country.

State Championships do not automatically equate to Div I talent; sometimes far from it. Trinity won 4A last season and did not have a lot of Div. I talent.
