I have heard a lot about Mercer Co. expecting the next coach to teach a full load and only have football as a "extra" position. LOL Well, if that is going to be the system's stance on this, you might as well not waste your time with a "search committee" accomplished coaches, almost without exception, will not work in situations like that, because the schoool system is not serious about winning. If you are just going to play ball with no expectations, fine, go out and do your best, but if you want success, you must do some things to give yourself the chance to win.

I hate to hear this news. I didn't always agree with some of his methods, but he sure is a likable person and a master of the veer offense. Best of luck coach! My prayers are with you!!

Watusi and others, this is NOT A DONE DEAL YET. Coach Chapman has not accepted the position. He and Mike Holcomb get offers from schools every year. They talk to them, visit with them, think things over, but when its time to do the deal, they stay in Bobcat land. John Paul left once, it left a sour taste in his mouth, don't be suprised if he is back at Breathit Co. I hope that he comes, but I still would be suprised.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that the job is his IF he wants it. I guess that is the only question that needs to be answered at this time.

What do the Cats have coming back? I see 3 definate losses, outside of that, anything is possible. I never thought that I would ever be saying what I am about to say, but Allen Central might actually be the favorite to win that District next year. They had a pretty decent team and have got everyone comming back, including those twins. Should be interesting!

What happened to Coach Beder at Knott Co.? Very good coach at a very unstable program.

Hazard has the skill and speed players to give them problems, but they will have to play near perfect defense to have a chance. If they can get a couple of breaks, it could be interesting. I look for it to be closer than most expect.

Everyone likes to compare the Big 10 against the SEC and talk about the gap between the 2, but if you will go back the last 5 years and compare the head to head match-ups in the bowl games the 2 conferences are pretty even in that respect.

College coaches rank the following as most important when recruiting a player. 1. Speed- cannot substitute for, cannot put a lot on someone. 2. Natural size- Meaning height and wingspan, things that are a non-negotible for everyone, meaning that cannot be changed. 3. Size weight- Coaches feel this can be added with a good diet. 4. Strength- Coaches feel everyone can get stronger with dedication to the weight room.

Listen, Paintsville used to whip-up on Central every year! It was a lock for them to win. Problem with Paintsville football now is they are not getting the kids from the County to go there anymore.....
