I would say he went something like 17-27. There were several over throws down in the red zone. A couple passes dropped by his WR’s as well. No shade being thrown because as I said, Duece had a great game, but he didn’t go 17-21. There is a guy on FB named James Green who has a video of the game on his page. His page is a public page. Go watch the game. I saw it live and stayed for the whole game….

Bailey had a great game but he missed his target on way more then 3 throws last night.

BG saw what everyone who is paying attention has seen from the Owensboro DB’s. They are Jolly Green Giant green!! Lining up wrong. Not knowing who has who. The coaches are going to have to make some decisions at corner and safety. On offense it just seems to never flow against good competition. And not just this year. The only year I’ve felt Owensboro had an offense that was ok being wide open was the year the QB transferred from Owensboro Catholic. Every other year it seems to be run, run,run, then pass. So far this year I’ve watched Mayfield,Boyle Co.,CAL,& BG come out and all run wide open offenses that have been very imaginative. Screens, double screens, reverses,hook and ladders,blah,blah, blah….when will OHS finally step into the now on offense?!?! The Hampton kid should be all over the field. Line him up in the slot. Put him at RB. Put him out wide. Put him in the wildcat. Find any way to get him the ball.(I thought OHS missed out by not using Carbon this way last year.) The Morris kid is the same way. He seems to only line up out wide. Move him in the slot and get him matched up on a Line Backer sometimes. They have to figure out a way to get the athletes the ball. All that being said I liked what I saw from the Crowe kid across the middle last night. He’s big and physical. He can be a great security blanket for the QB position as a slot/TE.

I watched a recording of the game Saturday morning so I had the benefit of the rewind button. Both touch down plays that were called back on OHS had legit infractions in them. Not sure what was called on both plays but there were blatant blocks in the back on both those TD's. The coaching staff will need to clean up the penalties going forward but overall not a bad showing for the Red & Black. Delacey played 100 times better then he had in the scrimmages. Hats off to the young man. This next game vs Bowling Green should be a dandy!

Against Mayfield, and against Boyle Co., Owensboro's DB's were lost/confused multiple times leading to big plays. I just don't think that will be fixed by week 1. On offense the Red Devils can't seem to complete a pass more then 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage and the On-line hasn't consistently opened holes for the run game. The Red Devils will improve as the season goes on, and the schedule gets easier, but against CAL,BG,etc. it's going to be tough sledding. Give me CAL 31-13.

Satterfield had a really strong 2023 class at Louisville. And he also had a few really highly ranked kids verbally commit for the 2024 class before going to UC.

Owensboro should be really really good next year....this year I think we struggle with the better teams on our schedule because of the QB position. The stronger teams will focus on stopping the run and make us beat them throwing the ball. Not sure we have the ability to do that right now.

The last time I remember Owensboro playing Mayfield was a two game series in the early 90's. I'm getting old though so I could have forgotten some other more recent games. (Ha!)

Mayfield looked like the best team last night and I think that was to be expected considering what they returned from a runner up squad. And, IMO, it'll be an upset if Mayfield isn't back in the 2-A championship game this year. I was really impressed with their team and their coaches. Owensboro is going to need to improve QB play to make a deep run in 5-A. On the plus side the OHS D-line was surprisingly stout last night. I just knew they would take a step back this year due to graduation. I'd like to see an Owensboro vs Mayfield series played in the future.

If my memory is correct Owensboro doesn't have a big Senior class this year. They're going to be lead by their JR/Sophomore classes. Talented but young in some key spots.

I wouldn't be surprised if Owensboro starts off like 1-4. Or 2-3 in those first 5 games. Not 100% sure what Daviess County and Graves County have but those games have been tough recently when the Red Devils are on the road. OHS lost a lot. But I believe by the 2nd half of the season their younger kids will have gotten more comfortable with their roles and the Red & Black will be a tough playoff opponent.

Read where he was named as a standout at the recent FBU camp down in Florida. Sowells JR has now been to camps in the state of Georgia and Florida and been a stand out at both. Kid is going to be a big time recruit!!

Surprised this opening hasn’t been talked about more. Western has a lot of really talented kids on their roster.

You know I hear folks say this all the time but I’m not sure I subscribe to it all the time. I think if you’re already a kid receiving high D1 interest then staying in Kentucky doesn’t hurt you too much. But if you’re under recruited then I could see going the prep route. I’ll give two recent examples. Kaleb Glenn was a top 100 recruit at Male. Averaged like 20 points and 11 rebounds as a Junior. He leaves Male for La Lumiere, and a national schedule, and he put up almost the exact same stats he did in KY. Of course he played with better talent, and against better talent, but I think he was going to be good no matter where he played his Senior year. The second example is Braxton Beverley. He was pretty much an after thought nationally as a recruit. He was “just” an All State caliber player that was probably going to play in the MAC or OVC. Well he decides to go to Hargrave Academy. While at Hargrave he catches the attention of Power 5 programs and ends up at NC State. IMO AAU ball has made it to where you don’t have to play high school ball at these prep schools if you’re already a known entity. It’s just a trend that has caught fire because of social media and ESPN.

I think this is Stan Simpson’s son. Stan is 6’9/6’10 and played for the University of Illinois and the University of Memphis.

The difference in this series is the pageantry Indiana has surrounding this game. They do everything associated with the game at a first class level. Being an Indiana All-Star is one of the biggest high school honors you can have over there. They frame their jerseys and most schools prominently display a kids jersey at their schools. In KY it’s not like that. I’ve known kids through the years that were KY All Stars and you would never know it unless you had a program or an old box score. Their schools/communities do nothing to acknowledge the honor. The host sight arenas in KY aren’t the best. The jerseys are terrible. And the selection process has been down right criminal at times. Sad to say but it just means more in Indiana! And that’s why their kids still show up for the games….

I was just about to say Indiana doesn’t seem to have that problem. I also think the state of Indiana makes a bigger deal out of this game.

Looks like it. Seems like he wasn’t as hyped up as some other kids in the 2023 class. Or maybe I’m just out the loop. (Ha!) Anyway I hope he’s on the KY All Star team and they can beat Indiana this year.
