Mayfield/Central Hardin at Owensboro 8/4 Scrimmage Updates

Owensboro looked ok/good against Central Hardin. I liked our running backs forsure. Would’ve liked to see more passing though.

3 possession O drove length of field on 2, missed FG and Hampton TD.

CH 3 possessions, 2 ending in TO’s and time on last one.

O with 7-0 or 10-0, couldn’t tell on FG.

Had a pretty good showing against a good Mayfield team also. Hampton is going to be a STUD at running back.

O drove length of field looked like stopped on 1 vs mayfield but my stream is horrid

Owensboro and Mayfield tied at 3-3 with Owensboro looking slightly more dominant IMO

Mayfield punt, FG, interception

‘Owensboro interception, punt, FG

Side note for whatever it’s worth. Mayfield did not have their best player playing tonight. RB JuJu Starks had an appendectomy last week and is out until the first game of the season

Either way Mayfield looked good all over the field. Didn’t see many weaknesses. I’m sure having RB#1 just makes them that much more dangerous.

Funny I thought Mayfield looked more dominate.

I also thought that Mayfield was the best team on the field during Varsity and JV play. Their QB was throwing some darts and they have speed at the skill positions. I expect to see Mayfield at Kroger Field in December. Owensboro also has a nice squad that can make a decent run in the playoffs.

Central Hardin looked sloppy and needs to improve in the coming weeks in all phases of the game. They are a 500 team this year and as always need to be more balanced on offense. Their defense has also taken a step back with the key losses of Adam and Andrew Hobbs to graduation.

All teams need to improve and they will.  Owensboro is in heavy rebuild mode.  Hampton gained a ton of yards on limited touches.  Defense had a few mental lapses but to be expected in first scrimmage.  It’s hard to tell too much on 3 possessions for each team but it was good for each team.  I like the 3-team concept.

Went to the scrimmage last night and left fairly pleased.  The Cards D really impressed me.  The offense passing game seems ahead of schedule but our running game struggled but we were down 2 staring linemen and what should prove to be one of the states premier backs. The Cards punter was off the charts with his punts. Looked like a college punter.  Overall, I felt the Cards looked to be the best of the 3 teams followed by Owensboro and C Hardin.  All 3 had their plus and minus moments.

Mayfield looked like the best team last night and I think that was to be expected considering what they returned from a runner up squad. And, IMO, it'll be an upset if Mayfield isn't back in the 2-A championship game this year. I was really impressed with their team and their coaches. Owensboro is going to need to improve QB play to make a deep run in 5-A. On the plus side the OHS D-line was surprisingly stout last night. I just knew they would take a step back this year due to graduation.  I'd like to see an Owensboro vs Mayfield series played in the future.

Unbiased view on Mayfield vs Owensboro. That is the only part of the scrimmage I watched. Final score 3-3 (field goals) but a clear advantage to Mayfield.

Mayfield defense allowed one big running play that led to Owensboro field goal. Mayfield defense handled Owensboro outside that one play.

Owensboro defense was solid, especially against the run. Mayfield had success running a hurry up offense on their scoring possession.

First scrimmage and both teams have work to do. Mayfield #69 was a standout at defensive tackle. Dabney was Mayfield's best playmaker on offense. In a regular season game, I would say Mayfield by at least 2 TD's.
