I too wish for a renewal of Mayfield and Senior. I laser recall playing Senior at Rash in the early 2000’s.

Huge rebuild project this year for Owensboro Senior.  We all knew this.  Winstead and Hampton are going to be tough to handle, a terrific all-state lineman in Lindsay.  Hampton only had a handful of Carrie’s against Mayfield and all besides 1 were good to big runs.  Winstead the bruiser.  That said QB/WR play has got to step up - but reloading everywhere there so that’s to be expected.  I would say 5-5 low side and 8-2 high side this year.  And I would love a 6 year series against Mayfield.  2 great western KY programs.

The last time I remember Owensboro playing Mayfield was a two game series in the early 90's. I'm getting old though so I could have forgotten some other more recent games. (Ha!)

Owensboro should be really really good next year....this year I think we struggle with the better teams on our schedule because of the QB position. The stronger teams will focus on stopping the run and make us beat them throwing the ball. Not sure we have the ability to do that right now.

Mayfield defense allowed one big running play that led to Owensboro field goal. Mayfield defense handled Owensboro outside that one play.

Owensboro defense was solid, especially against the run. Mayfield had success running a hurry up offense on their scoring possession.

First scrimmage and both teams have work to do. Mayfield #69 was a standout at defensive tackle. Dabney was Mayfield's best playmaker on offense. In a regular season game, I would say Mayfield by at least 2 TD's.

I’ll disagree that O was handled outside 1 play.  Each team got 3 series (maybe 20 plays each approximately)  O only got 2 yards first series, but did have a 15 yard run second series.  Both teams were handled 2 of their series.  Final series O moved Hampton to RB - Hampton gain of 10, Pass to Hampton for 10, Hampton run for 40, Winsteadr run for 7, pass to #7 for 7 and down the 2.  The final drive had a number of good plays.  It was really similar to Mayfield who had a nice bomb pass play that was the bulk of their yards, but also had some other intermediate gains.  O moved it mainly by run whereas Mayfield by pass.

I went back and watched the Scrimmage again and everyone is right mayfield did look more dominant slightly. Must’ve had my homer glasses on last night. Owensboro’s passing game is almost none existent at the moment. But I was pleased with the run game. Have to give Hampton the ball more.

Owensboro did find success on that last drive running the ball. After the long run, Mayfield toughened again and forced the field goal. Hard to predict much off a first scrimmage and maybe Owensboro learned they need to be run first in this scrimmage. I will stick with favoring Mayfield in a regular season match up based on what I saw, but your points on the Owensboro running game on their last drive are valid and could make it a tighter game than I was thinking if Owensboro could sustain that in a real game.

@Voice of ReasonI agree.  Mayfield is in much less of a rebuilding state and should be the better team and have the better season no doubt and would be favored.

Owensboro is a solid team. They will only get better.

I remember him telling us that he could only get a scrimmage out of them. I’m sure there was more to it than that but that’s what he told us when I was playing. Between the Border Bowl District games and City County that only left 1 or 2 open games that was usually filled by Henderson and a Warren County School.

If I’m not mistaken Joe Prince played for mayfield. He had a lot of respect for them.
