  1. Dixie Jones didn't impress at Hoptown. He took over a team that had it's only loss in 2004 in the AAA semis and then then basically led it on a steady decline. Jones' Hoptown teams went 9-4, 7-6, 4-7, 7-5, 3-8, and 3-7. He started off with a good program and then ended up with a program that optimists could maybe get away with calling "not far off from being competitive." I guess I look at Clark's first year at Hopkinsville, which was also his first time ever being a head coach, as an uphill battle because he was taking over a team that had been on a downward projection for 6 straight seasons under Jones. Kids were jumping ship from Jones' teams and heading for greener pastures at Christian County. It's no coincidence that Lovelace took Christian to the state finals in Jones' last year at Hoptown. He did it with the assistance of all the kids who opted for Christian instead of Hoptown.
  2. I think Clayton is definitely leaving the program in a significantly better position than it was when Clark took it over from Dixie Jones back in like 2010 or 2011.
  3. Lol I still don't think we're going to see overly inflated sack numbers in high school drop. Not from some schools, anyway.
  4. Word around the water cooler in my neck of the woods was that the school was getting complaints about Atchley having meltdowns in class while he was teaching and parents were complaining about profanity laced tirades their kids were being subjected to. Was told he was placed on probation and the blowups continued so he was let get as a teacher which resulted in his dismissal as a coach. I've heard that from a couple of different people and they both have good reason for the info to be reliable. If that's truly the case should that make a guy un-hirable? I don't know if I'd go that far. Would it possibly make it harder for someone to find a job in the immediate after being dismissed mid year for something like that? Seems possible. Pretty embarrassing by Fayette Co Schools that this wasn't all sorted out before they announced the hire. Last I heard asking for references is a standard operating procedure in most situations when you're hiring new personnel. I'm curious what administrator was like, "Oh, you were teaching and coaching in October and now it's 3 months later and the same school year and you're unemployed. That doesn't seem curious at all. Definitely not worth me making a phone call to your old school to look into the situation."
  5. WKYFootball nailed it. What makes anyone want to go for a job where they're guaranteed to have to compete against another candidate to keep the job in a year? Hoptown and Christian Co are both in a crap position making lame duck hires. I don't think they'll get a good coach with head coach experience for this job, or for the Christian Co job. Only chance I see either of these two jobs having any kind of qualified, experienced head coach get hired is if that head coach is looking at retiring.
  6. Morris is a AD there and has legacy clout on top of his own achievements. Plus football is king at Mayfield so within reason he gets a long leash to do what he wants. I don't think there is a delay. The job is posted, so they're accepting applications, and they're probably starting with some initial interviews. The only delay is the announcement from Morris. And I've been told the same stuff about him retiring, wait wait no, going and taking a college job, wait wait no, retiring and taking a job in Tennessee. Not sure which is true there but he apparently wants to handle this as a passing of the torch instead of a regular old retirement, hiring search and then new hire. He's handling the new hire anyway.
  7. Hallock posted on the KHSAA open job page on 1-8 looking for a DC and then the school listed the HC job on the KHSAA on 1-25. Surely Jackson County didn't fire him right?
  8. Mentioned in the Christian Co thread, there's a Clarksville HS assistant who's interested in one of the two jobs open in the district.
  9. Everything I've heard is that the Joe Morris days at Mayfield are done.
  10. There's apparently an assistant coach from Clarksville HS who is interested in getting one of the two Christian Co jobs.
  11. About the fact that he will not be the Mayfield head football coach any longer.
  12. I have someone reliable who told me Morris is waiting on the opportunity to talk to his players about his retirement. Hasn't been able to get because of all the complications from the tornadoes. The job was posted so the hire could be finalized asap.
  13. Cliff Dew. Teaches at Mayfield Elementary. He's the DC right now, and the linebacker & Oline coach. Started at Mayfield in the early 00s, left for a head coach spot in Mississippi for a couple of years and came back to Mayfield in '09 or '10. He's from Mississippi originally. Played foosball at Ole Miss.

    My Intentions

Definitely. I'm kind of sparse in posting, especially in the non-sport forums, but I definitely check on here when there are major storm systems expected or coming through. I'm glad you're hanging around @nWo.
  15. What's the motto? With a spirit that occasionally shows up? With a spirit that sometimes tries? I think that's it.
  16. I know I'm not a high schooler. I don't get turnover chains or wrestling belts, and don't even get me started on how little sense carrying sledge hammers around makes, but the garbage can Highlands had was really really dumb, and Sphire managed to one-up that with the stick.
  17. Maybe now that they have that big piece of wood to get excited about, things might get better when Highlands kids move up from freshman to jv and varsity.
  18. The play calling at Dixie is consistently puzzling.
  19. So which player gets to run onto the field with that chunk of wood after this week? What's it called? The tooth pick?
  20. It sounds as if DaMarcus Smith was never even hired as the head coach either. In a different letter to the KHSAA the Evangel superintendent said "Mr. Smith is not an employee of Evangel. If he were, he would be terminated."
  21. Football program has been dissolved. Sounds like the superintendent is stating that DaMarcus Smith was never officially hired as football coach either, despite attempting to recruit players from other high schools while claiming to be the coach. Brandon Bender has also been terminated, and appears to have admitted to falsifying information on Kyran Tilly's eligibility application to the KHSAA by alleging that Tilly's family stated he was "subjected to abuse by his coach at his former school." Interesting stuff. Interesting stuff.
