Schools requiring adult guardians to escort students/children to games.

Featured Replies

In the last few days I've seen a few policies pop up on school social media sites regarding students and children attending the games.

Male & Pleasure Ridge Park have issued statements that "All students allowed entry for home football games must be enrolled at [Male/PRP] High School, or the Visiting Team High School. Students from non-participating schools will NOT be allowed entry in the stadium without being accompanied by an adult."

Dixie Heights just issued a somewhat similar policy stating that "Dixie Heights Athletics is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all. In order to do so, Dixie Heights will require all middle and elementary aged students to be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all home football games."

Any other schools following suit elsewhere around the state?

I am all for kids being kids as long as parents are parents.  When we were kids, it was great to go to a school event unchaperoned.  It was a safe way for kids to gain some level of independence and s

Man, I can not blame them, Parents just drop kids off and roll out. Half of them do not even pick them up after, they are just there til 1 am walking around some places. Fights, drugs, vapes, half dressed. Its bad.

This is a great idea for places that can actually enforce it. I'm sure the places that are implementing these changes have a plan in place.

Are school IDs issued everywhere now? Asking because I honestly don't know.

I was never issued a school I'd until college, but that was also decades ago, so I'm out of the loop.

Probably not everywhere.

Bottom line is: It's not the school's responsibility to police people's unruly children. The school has some reach into dealing with the behavioral issues of those kids who go to school within the district, but they have exactly zero reach to deal with the behavioral issues of the randoms that show up at these games.

That's a good question. Male and PRP's policies did note needing school issued IDs. That could be an issue if not all schools give them out.

Wow. This is probably long overdue. Not sure how they are going to really enforce it, but it's a great idea.

I also think there needs to be standard rules that any students of the visiting team must sit in the designated visiting seating area or at least are not allowed on the home side. Or really visiting fans in general cause sometimes the adults are worse.

I know back years ago the Covington police would escort people and students alike out of the games at Holmes if they were in the wrong fan section.

I welcome this as it will also keep groups of individuals off the sidelines who don't belong.

Definitely needed at some schools.  I’ve seen some crazy behavior at Dixie games the past few years that I don’t seem to see at Highlands or CCH.
And kids roaming up and down the strip near Dixie after games is bad too.

I think this is an important point.  The enforcement is a huge part of this otherwise its just words.

If you have a bunch trying to get into the game, how are you going to hold the line to keep some of these kids out?  That can be confrontational.  Is the AD and staff going to be present for that?

Do you refund their money?  I know at Manual it's all GoFan; so for example, a middle schooler say gets a GoFan ticket and his parents drop him and bolt like always; then what?  It's going to be a headache for a few games I think.

But if it saves from some of the fights I've seen recently, it is worth it.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older but the Middle School Kids are just awful lately. They swarm to any drama, are obnoxiously loud, and heaven forbid you ask them to watch their mouth around younger more impressional kids. Heaven forbid they make it down to the sidelines. Tossing footballs, talking trash to the other teams. I know some schools may take a hit with their gate money, but this is a welcome and needed change (for now). And despite some calling schools out by name on here, it happens at almost every school, on every Friday night. And at most basketball games.
