2023 Beechwood Tigers

Featured Replies

Can the Tigers make it 4 in a row? This year will be a big challenge. A large and talented senior class that won three straight titles is graduating. There is a very talented group of sophomores that stepped into starting roles in 2022 and even more from that class will be called upon in 2023. Can "the program" get it done again in 2023?

One of the reasons I admire the historical and current success Beechwood has had is that they have done it without a ton of "D1" talent. Attempting to call them out for lack of success at the next lev

Cash needs to do what he thinks is best for him. Hopefully he is happy and gets what he is looking for. I wish him the best whether it is Beechwood, Cov Cath or somewhere else.

If anybody can it would be the Tigers.  Mayfield should be right on the Tigers heels with the Cards returning alot plus Biggers from Murray has come back home and now is enrolled at Mayfield.  LCA and that QB should also be in the conversation.

I would say this is the farthest out I’d have the tigers from a state title in the last 4-5 years. But if anyone can get it done it’ll be Noel Rash and company. Expect them to still be a Semi-Finals team bare minimum.

Does anyone know how many returning starters Beechwood will have?

They lose 8/11 starters on defense. Offense is much better off but still lots of spots to be filled. Having Hayden, and Flaherty sets them up in the backfield. Erdman and Cusick out wide. They will probably have the biggest adjustments to make up front.

Using the championship game starters, Beechwood returns 7 starters offense. They have capable players on the second team that will step in. Offense should be dynamic.

On defense, only 3 starters from the title game lineup return. I see players that can step into the openings on the defensive line and the defensive backfield. Replacing the linebackers is going to be the challenge.

The concern I see is that no matter what happens with the offense, the defense has rolled for 3+ years and a BIG reason for each state title. The lynchpin. If kids can step up and replace key leaders like Waddell, they have a good chance. That’s a big ask for so many.  Hopefully Campbell coming back will help bridge the gap. Personally, I can’t wait to see the next generation step up. Will be fun to watch.

We know the district now:

Woof….locked into 5 district games a year, and they will more than likely be 5 blowouts.

Surely I hope you’re kidding.

New teams, two more district games, but the same story. When was the last time Beechwood had a competitive district game? The Lloyd game this year was probably the first non running clock they’ve had in district in well over a decade. They’ll still be able to put together a competitive non district schedule.

Yes, the old districts had many blowouts as well, but you only had to play 3 district games. This new setup locks you into playing 5 district games and limits flexibility in the non district schedule. 5 district games against some of these teams is going to be a huge blow to Beechwood’s RPI. It’s just not a very optimal setup, all of the other districts have 4 teams and I think one other that has 5. Also, where does St Henry get put when they join the varsity ranks in 3 years? Will it then be a 7 team district?

There does seem to be more 6 team districts in this alignment. But you can't choose your geography and NKY just doesn't have any 2A teams with Holy Cross and Newport moving down. I think the bigger concern is the fact that Beechwood probably won't play any competitive games for 6 or 7 weeks (the 5 district games, game #10, and the first round or two of the playoffs).

Why not move up to 3A with this district?
