At Dixie on June 9th. Brossart will have several players involved, namely Jacob Leicht, Jed Martin, Thomas Sayers, and perhaps others.

I remember a game not on that list that Harvey Haddix pitched 12 perfect innings for Pittsburgh versus the Milwaukee Braves and then lost the game. The game was played on May 26th, 1959. Haddix had previously pitched for the Reds.

I'm hoping I was wrong about my early pre-season assessment of Hunter Greene. I was convinced that he was damaged goods, and that we had wasted a Number One draft pick. After watching the young man pitch I'm becoming a fan. We will see how he does the second time around, BUT he seems to be in command and has a good mix of pitches. Why he throws 36 pitches over 100 mph one game and none the next boggles me, But I'm hoping for the best for this guy. Professional, articulate and clean-cut. Hopefully, he is the real deal.

"Paraprofessionals are encouraged to apply." Certainly a change of perspective from back in the late 80s when paraprofessionals were frowned upon. I was a successful head coach, as were several others, who were terminated by the KHSAA because we were paraprofessionals. The KHSAAs beef was not with us, but with a paraprofessional who was coaching at University Heights, who at the time, where bringing in players from abroad, and using the school as a springboard to obtain college scholarships for these immigrants.

We welcome Coach Brown to Brossart. Steve has been a fixture on the Northern Kentucky basketball scene, both on the Girls and the Boys side for decades. He will bring stability and experience to our program. Steve is familiar with both the importance of the All "A" having coached at St. Henry, and knows the ins and outs of the 37th District and 10th Region, having coached most recently at Scott. Coach Brown will have the opportunity to build on the progress made by Coach Garren Parker and his staff a year ago. He will have the services of 7 seniors returning from a team that graduated 4 from the 2021-22 team that went 20-11, were 37th District Champions, and played into the semi-finals of the 10th Region Tournament where they were competitive with George Rogers Clark, the Regional Champion. Both the 2021-22 Freshmen and JV teams experienced success at a high level. Coach Brown is expected to maintain the current assistant coaching base, that has been in place for the past four years.

Bishop Brossart High School is pleased to announce Mr. Steve Brown as our new Girls Head Basketball Coach. Coach Brown brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new position with the Mustangs having coached both boys and girls high school basketball for over 30 years. He started his coaching career in early 1980’s at Beechwood and has had stops at Campbell County, Boone County, St. Henry, and Scott High School. “We are thrilled to have Coach Brown to be the new leader of our girls basketball program,” Bishop Brossart Athletic Director Ron Verst said. “With Coach Brown’s experience we know he will be able to continue the winning tradition here at Bishop Brossart.” Coach Brown has been the Girls Head Basketball Coach at Scott High School for the past three seasons where his team made it to the 10th Region Semifinals and he was named the 2021 KABC Coach of the Year for the 10th Region. Prior to that was the Girls Head Basketball Coach at St. Henry’s for two seasons where his teams made two All-A Regional finals appearances and advanced to the 9th Region tournament. Coach Brown is recently retired from the United States Postal Service and he and his wife Sandy have three daughters.

Aaron Stamm has had success at whatever challenge he has taken on to date. I wish hi nothing but success on the boys side. The Ludlow kids are lucky to have him.

Lots of fishing but few fish on our annual weeklong trip to Pickwick Late Tennessee. The quality of the "keeper" sized fish that we caught was impressive but were far and few between with literally no short fish in evidence. We fished in ideal conditions - lite winds, partly cloudy skies, stable water levels (413ft) and temperatures (66-69, just few fish on this trip. Selfishly, I'm sorry to see Jordan Gilbert take this job. Coach Gilbert did a great job on the boys side, and put in place an inclusive Freshman Boys regional tournament earlier this spring. He has the true interest of the players at heart. Congratulations on having your talents and dedication to the Mason County program recognized by being given this opportunity. They are prevalent in Southwestern Tennessee. We saw several of them during our annual spring fishing trip to Pickwick Lake, which is located at the juncture of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Campbell County native Ben Franzen, a 2009 graduate of Campbell County High School, has been named the head coach of the Brossart Mustangs. Coach Franzen has served most recently as Varsity Assistant and the JV Coach at Covington Catholic High School under Coach Scott Ruthsatz, one of the area’s premiere coaches. He is also the former Freshman Coach at Highlands. Ben replaces Scott Code who has stepped down after two years as our head coach and dedicated a total of 15 years to our school and basketball program. Scott took over from his brother Mike in the Covid shortened 2020-21 season. Mike served the previous 16 years as our head coach and two more as Varsity Assistant to Willie Schlarman who served in the head coaching capacity for seven seasons. We are indebted to “Team Code” for their dedication and service to our boys basketball program, and look forward to moving forward into the future under Coach Franzen and his staff. Coach Franzen will attend First Friday mass this Friday at 6:45am, and will meet with his prospective new team in the Munninghoff Family Theater following mass at 7:15am. Ben will also serve as the director of our upcoming Summer Youth Basketball Camp taking place from Monday to Thursday, June 20th to 23rd. Please join me in welcoming Coach Ben Franzen to our school and wish him a long and successful tenure here.

The problem with the Reds is that they aren't the Reds. They are a collection of ball players, assembled in a clubhouse, being asked to go out and win ball games. There is no roster consistency, and the players we have are either cut-rate purchases or past-prime refugees or cast offs from other teams. What percentage of each years roster is the same as it's previous year? I have no identity to this ball team as being the Cincinnati Reds. Joey Votto must ask these guys to wear name tags. Last season I think 58 players washed through this team roster. It seems like we are on pace to match that number. It wasn't even May and we'd already brought up some kid from AA. What does that say about our pitching staff? This situation is beyond sad. It is insane and tragic.

There is nothing wrong with being expected to be respectable. "And you are comparing guys who are paid to play a game (and represent our city) vs. those paid by tax payer dollars to serve society? There's no comparison." Yes, You betcha!!! Again you are all dashing right past the crux of my argument, which is that I don't want long-haired scraggly, inked up people serving as a role model to my son.

No, what a perfect example of how our standards have fallen. Everybody worships the Big Red Machine, but you might also notice that they respected the game and maintained an image of professionalism. The current generation of fans either look the other way, or accept it as these guys simply expressing their individuality, which is a crock. Unfortunately, I guess the players union have overridden any team rules or imposed requirements. If it feels good - just do it. Our whole dissertation started when I cited that I wouldn't want some of these players being my kid's role model. I like India. He played through injury last year, works hard, hustles, and checks all of the boxes short of image. I suggested that a trim of his present wild and unruly head of hair would increase his image and earn some respect with the public. And yes, there are still standards and codes that exist in some professions. When was the last time that you saw a male police officer with hair hanging halfway down his back??? Respect the game. Give something back to it.

Longtime 10th Region fixture - Bracken County and Robertson County - Patrick Kelsch has been named the head coach of the Pendleton County Lady Cats. I hope that this is a sign that his health issues are behind him. I've always considered Patrick a top-notch coach and person. I think that Patrick will get the girls out to play and once again get excited about basketball at Pendleton County. They are lucky to have him. I'm sure he will be missed at Robertson County.

No, India would not be a "role model" for my kid unless he trims up. Love his play and his work ethic, but there are responsibilities that go along with being my kid's hero, and being presentable is one of them.

Being merely a casual fan who enjoys watching the Reds play on TV and not following all of the off-season moves, I cannot believe how many players on this team I don't know, or have never heard of. To me, they might as well be dressing and playing FC Cincinnati guys in Reds uniforms, and I think that speaks poorly for the organization. Also, how many of these Reds would you want to take your son to the ballpark to watch play??? India maybe, but he needs to "clean up." Not Votto, he is old news. Acquino has lowered the bar to a new low "acceptable performance" level. Farmer has no personality and is merely going through the motions to pick up a check, Moustakas (already on the IL) is an overweight slug, and Tommy Pham is another stray dog who we have taken in, who obviously can't keep his mouth shut. There is some other guy out there who looks like Wolfman Jack. Who are these guys??? Not players I want representing Cincinnati. Can't we establish a core Cincinnati Reds roster??? This is really sad.

Granted, while Beechwood is the deeper team, they will likely face re-classified Senior Dalton Davenport, who went 8-1 a year ago, with a 1.06 era, striking out 128 batters in 59 innings of work, on a team that went 24-7. In Tuesday's 10th Region Championship game versus Brossart (a normally good contact team) he allowed no runs on three scattered singles, and struck out 16. Nicholas County won that game 3-0, the result of a Dalton Davenport three run home-run in the home half of the first inning. I'm quite interested in seeing how effective he will be vs Beechwood. ' .

Nicholas County senior Dalton Davenport hit a three run "short porch" home run in the home half of the first inning to account for all of the runs scored in this 10th Region "A" Finals game played Tuesday evening in Carlisle. Davenport was also the Blue-Jacket hurler, who pitched a complete game shutout, scattering three Brossart hits, and striking out 16. Brossart pitcher Evan Moore did a creditable job on the mound, also going the distance, allowing only those three runs while only permitting three hits and striking out 11. My sources tell me that Nicholas County and Beechwood, the 9th Region Champ will hook up on Sunday in the 9th/10th "A" Sectional in Carlisle. I consider Brossart to be a good hitting team, and am therefore interested to see how Davenport will do vs the Tigers.

With all of the housecleaning, the fact that we still have Aquino is a bad joke.
