Certainly a change of perspective from back in the late 80s when paraprofessionals were frowned upon.  I was a successful head coach, as were several others, who were terminated by the KHSAA because we were paraprofessionals.  The KHSAAs beef was not with us, but with a paraprofessional who was coaching at University Heights, who at the time, where bringing in players from abroad, and using the school as a springboard to obtain college scholarships for these immigrants.

I actually decided to become a teacher because I wanted to be a coach. After about 7 years, it started to almost work against me because I could not get consideration from schools that did not have an open teaching position. If you are a paraprofessional, you can kind of cast a wider net.

I think most on this board know who you are referring to BUT is that such a bad thing?

Helping kids obtain scholarships should be the goal of many in the education process especially from this state (Commonwealth) that ranks near the bottom of many education and social rankings

Who are the front runners for this position? Any internal candidates?

I think Marcus Harris (internal) may get some consideration.

 

i think Isaac Speicher (Beechwood HC, former Scott assistant, former Calvary coach) may have interest.

Seems like a good dude, but he's made a ton of moves in a short time. I don't want to go through the process again in 2 years if I'm Scott.

I sure had a lot more of my students get ACADEMIC scholarships than I had men and women get ATHLETIC scholarships....and that's over a long career in both public and private education.

What about John Grant?  I think I have his name correct, was an assistant on the team last year.
