  1. I’ll take Simon Kenton tonight . . . especially if they shoot 26 more free throws than their opponent like last night! Should be a good one!
  2. That all-important No. 1 seed in this district! 😂
  3. Reed Sheppard is doing OK for University of Kentucky 😂
  4. Would love to see a Ballard - HIghlands Latin matchup . . . 😂
  5. Spencer County was the favorite to win the 8th? They’re not off to the best start with a tough week ahead in the KOB.
  6. One of the hardest things for coaches to do in practice is to simulate “game speed” against “game competition”. Small schools face a large challenge in the practice setting - they just don’t have the depth. Look at players 8-14 at Owen County and compare them to players 8-14 at the larger schools. There’s usually no comparison. It also shows up when a starter or two gets in could trouble. You can have a stud or a great starting five, but depth usually wins out over time.
  7. Two of Trinity’s starters played last year on different teams that went to the Sweet 16 . . . and those two teams are returning this year!
  8. A lot of “underlying storylines”, transfers, etc. in this game . . . and what a game it was! So hard to predict the makeup of teams year-to-year in the 6th and 7th regions. This Male team is much different than the team that went to Rupp last year . . . as is J-town!
  9. I would think Max Green, and Oldham County, would be district favorites next year.
  10. Also think its strange that they assign region referees before the Sweet 16 bracket is drawn. If I'm a 13th region ref and I know my home teams may play someone from the 8th region at Rupp early on, that could have an effect on the way I approach an 8th region game (I'm not saying it would affect 100% of refs, but even one or two could make a minor difference).
  11. My sense is that out-of-region referees have a slight tendency to favor the underdog. Last year North Oldham was not the favorite going in to the 8th region tournament; this year they are. They'll need to play a clean game to beat Woodford County.
  12. Fatigue leads to poor decisions and turnovers . . . that cost Owen County late in the game.
  13. A few stats from the KHSAA stats from last night's game that jumped out: Grant County was 2/19 from three (!!) and 9/11 from the line North Oldham was 2/8 from three and 7/16 from the line (!!)
  14. Tough finish for the 8th Region coach of the year. 43 points isn’t going to win to many games.
  15. Seems like both games had a lot of fouls called with teams getting to the bonus quickly. What region is officiating at Henry County? Plan for long games if you go!
  16. Utter made up for his turnovers with his defense on Dallas Roberts, it just seemed like most of Grant’s TO’s came in the crucial 4th Q.
  17. * for all-male schools like St. X, Trinity . . . multiply their enrollment by two?
  18. I think this game comes down to Green for OC. In the South Oldham win, Green scored 36% of OC’s points in a 19-point win. In the North Oldham loss, Green scored 64% (!) of OC’s points in a 21-point loss. If he gets his teammates involved, has a few assists, Amburgey is healthy and stays out of foul trouble . . . then OC pulls it off.
  19. Watch the referee take out a Gallatin County player at the end of the video! Block or charge?!
