  1. Then I find it hard to believe that record was set 50 years ago . . . maybe 40?
  2. Was the previous record holder any relation to the Fred Hale that used to run youth/AAU basketball tournaments in the Louisville area?
  3. Looks like cardsrule73 now identifies as Hoopstars . . . welcome back! 😉
  4. This may be an unpopular opinion regarding Coach Utter, but I’m not sure how you vote a guy coach of the year when you can’t teach your point guard to dribble with both hands.
  5. Over the last several years, Spencer strikes me as a program that usually has 2 or 3 really good players but lacks the depth, size, etc. to really compete with the region powerhouses on a consistent basis. Spencer has improved its schedule recently (including a few trips to the King of the Bluegrass), but doesn't challenge itself against tougher competition as much as some 8th region teams. I would think Woodford, Collins, Oldham and North Oldham all have stronger schedules.
  6. KHSAA website lists both Oldham County and South Oldham gym capacity at 2,500, and North Oldham's at 2,156. Therefore, I would arrive 13.7% earlier than if the game were held at OC or South! 😉 Based on my experience, most of the North Oldham students will leave following the girl's game, and there will not be as many students at the girl's games on Tuesday as there will be on Friday.
  7. At least half of the top 20 will be eliminated after the region championship games, possibly more if there are significant upsets. Interesting to note: - 11th Region has teams ranked 2, 4, and 7 . . . only one can advance! - 7th Region has teams ranked 9, 10, and 12 and the 6th Region has teams ranked 13, 14, and 15 . . . should make for very competitive tournaments! - 8th Region has teams ranked 3, 17 and 18. - 9th Region has teams at 8 and 10 and the 10th Region has teams at 5 and 16
  8. Big surprise! Good thing those Coach of the year ballots came in early.
  9. Good point. The 29th district runner-up has won the 8th region multiple times.
  10. Miles Franklin did not play for Ballard. He's a big part of the Bruins offense.
  11. Call me crazy, and I'm dating myself, but the trend began back in 1978 when the TV show Dallas (Who Shot JR?) began airing on Friday nights. Prior to that, there was nothing else to do on a Friday night, and high school gyms across the country were packed with pep clubs, cheerleaders, bands, parents, relatives, and young kids (many brought to the games on fan busses). It was the thing to do on Friday nights and school spirit was at a peak. When Dallas started airing things changed . . . everyone wanted to tune in . . . people had other other options . . . and high school basketball attendance began its unfortunate decline. Also, the amount of weekday games in Kentucky dilutes the fan base, as well as 30 regular season games. Look at attendance across the river in Indiana: more Friday & Saturday night games, 20 game regular season, each game means more and attendance is greater.
  12. To say Roberts hasn't improved much is a stretch . . . the kid just scored his 2,000th point. What has improved is the team around him. The North Oldham teams of a few years ago were not nearly as talented as this year's team.
  13. Big win for South Oldham, especially AT DeSales . . . not an easy place to play, Sneve on a Monday night! DeSales has struggled in the second half lately.
  14. 53% of the titles in the last 15 years have come from one district
  15. With a few exceptions, Oldham County, Collins and South Oldham have controlled the region over the last 10-15 years.
  16. Great win by Grant County over Great Crossing - they bounced back pretty well!
  17. Let’s see how they bounce back today against Great Crossing!
  18. He’s also a safety valve: out of bounds plays or trapping situations they can just throw It up to him. Probably saves SK a few turnovers each game.
