9th Region Boys Tourney - Pre-District Picks and Favorite
When you think about it from Cov Cath's perspective, I'm sure they would love a mini "revenge tour" of beating Beechwood for the district title and beating Highlands at NKU on their way to repeating as 9th region champs

From Cov Cath's perspective, that game was u.g.l.y. 20+ turnovers is not going to win them the 9th region, especially with just the carelessness of the way some of the turnovers happened. Thelen and Fleek both finished with 14. Overall, a win is a win for Cov Cath, but man, that was not a pretty game. Definitely some things to clean up before tournament play starts. Also, Mayer played well with 8 and 8.

Covington Catholic 73 Holmes 45
For Cov Cath, obviously the biggest thing is just getting back to Region, and this sets up nicely for them with a first round game against Holmes. I'm sure they wouldn't mind playing Beechwood for the title after Friday's game, but I think CCH might have eyes on some bigger goals.

Beechwood 49 Covington Catholic 48
There's just something that seems a little weird about this year's CovCath team. They can go out some nights and look like a team that is primed and ready to defend their state title, and then another night, they score 6 points in the first quarter and 7 points in the fourth quarter against a decent Beechwood team. This was a tough loss for the Colonels, but I think the return of Davin and the addition of Mayer will help this team a lot more than people realize. Yes, Mayer isn't a "bucket-getter" but with the size of this team already, he's just another guy to throw into the fold who is very calm around the rim and can add another dimension on offense. Davin I think remains to be seen a little bit, but he will certainly help open up the offense if he can knock down shots. Cov Cath needs more ball handling, and some better perimeter shooting.

For those asking about LaMelo's NCAA eligibility, here's an article from Sports Illustrated that does a pretty good and thorough job of describing how that process would work: LaMelo Ball: Will LaVar Ball'''s youngest son play college basketball? | SI.com

Covington Catholic 76 Ryle 45
Thelen and Green absolutely dominated in the paint tonight. The passing has really turned a corner for the Colonels...if this team is going to make a run that’s going to be crucial. It’s been an impressive few games for the Colonels but now they have a few tests coming up.

Covington Catholic 53 Cooper 47
A game after hitting 6 three's, Grant Disken went 4-7 from three tonight. The Colonels are going to need that kind of production out of him down the stretch this year, especially against some of these high-talented teams. Nick Thelen added 14, and the Colonels only missed two free throws (14-16). Also, the Colonels only missed eight shots all night...went 17-25 from the field. This was a very impressive win for Covington Catholic, especially considering the fact that they are still missing Davin and Mayer who will both change the dynamic of this team when everyone is available.

CCH will have an audio feed of tonight's game, which can be found here: Colonel Athletic Network is on Mixlr. Mixlr is a simple way to sha... It doesn't sound like there will be video streams in the near future for the reasons listed above, but all of the games will have an audio broadcast.

Covington Catholic 54 Conner 36
Neil Green finished with 16 for the Colonels. Disken had 14, and Jalen Bowles had 8. Cov Cath was 18-21 from the charity stripe and did indeed pull away with some good free throw shooting at the end. Conner's leading scorer didn't play, so that didn't do the Cougars any favors. Kind of an odd first half, very fast-paced but not a lot of scoring, then the Colonels settled in for the second half. At one point late in the third/early in the fourth, Conner had cut it to six, but never got closer than that.

Tandy cut his chin on the rim on that dunk. Unreal.

Covington Catholic 63 St. Henry 47
The Colonels look all out of sorts early in the season. They turned the ball over 19 times tonight, and went 3-15 from three again. It seems like everyone keeps looking around for CJ or Aiden to appear and hit a big shot, and they're beginning to realize that won't happen. It's going to take some work for this squad to play as a unit, but once the talent puts it all together, they'll be fine.

Highlands 57 Covington Catholic 51
Covington Catholic finished 3-15 from three. That's not a number that will win the Colonels many games when one of their trademarks is how well they can shoot the ball. This is a much bigger CCH team than in years past with the likes of Thelen, Green, and Fleek, and when Mayer returns it will have a different feel. This is clearly not last year's CCH, but they have the pieces to be a very good team. Also - just for clarity's sake, it was a 25 game winning streak for Cov Cath that came to an end tonight.

5A State Championship: #1 Covington Catholic vs. #2 South Warren
This is one of those situations where it's hard to determine an area where South Warren could game-plan against a Covington Catholic weakness. Jacob has showed significant growth over the last few weeks, especially in the playoffs, so if the D-Line can shut down McGinness, there's confidence in the passing game. If the passes aren't there, dump it off to Mayer or McGinness in the flat and let them run forever. There's just so many weapons available. If you're South Warren, it's like you have to narrow in on one thing, take some risks, and attack.

Covington Catholic 105 Ludlow 49
Grant Disken had 4 points, 2 steals and an assist 32 seconds into the game. He finished with 18, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Tyler Fleek also had 18 points. Nick Thelen had 12, Mick Davin had 11, and Neil Green finished with 10. 12 different Colonels scored, and seven had at least nine points. It was over right after it started, and the Colonels looked pretty flawless on offense. Ludlow had nowhere near the size to compete in the post, and their transition defense was severely under-matched. However, Ludlow did fill it up from long range - 8/18 from deep. Cov Cath finished with nine three's. Not much to take away from this one besides a win.

AJ Mayer - Undefeated Senior Year
And to go along with this, I would go out on a limb and say neither one of those teams wins the state without him. Maybe basketball, but his rebounding and toughness was so integral to the team that they very well could have lost to Cooper or done poorly at Rupp.

AJ Mayer - Undefeated Senior Year
Could he be in the discussion for best overall athlete in the history of Cov Cath?

Covington Catholic 53 Cooper 49 (9th Region Semifinals)
Correct. CCH was 0-3 from the field (0-1 from three) and 17-20 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
-
Covington Catholic 85 Beechwood 43 (35th District Semifinal)
Not sure Jake had an off night...I believe he was perfect from the field, had a lot of solid hook finishes in the paint, and was active on defense. Good nights for him and CJ. Also, Ruthsatz did have at least 6 points, but apparently there were some clerical errors on the final stat sheet that may not have been corrected yet by the time they were published for print.
-
Covington Catholic 71 Highlands 25
CJ outscored the Bluebirds himself...there was just too much passing for Highlands to handle. If the Colonels build from this one it could be quite a stretch they put together.

The mask may have had something to do with it, but Nowak was suffocating. Picked him up at halfcourt almost every time and didn't let him breathe. Kudos to him.
