Would it change anyone's mind if we were talking about elementary or middle school students? Would it be a problem if a fifth grade homeschooled student played on his or her local public school basketball team? Why is high school any different? Are we once again going to let overly-competitive adults ruin the chance for a kid to participate in athletics? I doubt many kids would get upset over the prospect of a homeschooler playing sports at their public high school. Maybe the KHSAA needs to be quizzed on their own published set of values found in their current strategic plan (2007-2011)... #1 - The opportunity for participation of all student athletes

Coach Reed likes to call them pukers, and yes, it's a lot of running. I bet he still wants them to be completed in 30 seconds or less, with 30 seconds before the next one starts... how I don't miss those days.

I don't know what it is now, but nearly every high school and college in the state of Virginia charges $0 for students. A few friends thought I was crazy when I asked them the admission price for the local high school basketball game. They didn't know because they never had to pay.

It is common practice in the state of Virginia that all athletic events are free to the students. This practice extends beyond the high schools and into their colleges. As a college student at Virginia Tech, I went to many, many athletic events for free. Football, Mens & Womens Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Volleyball, etc... all were free. Coming from Kentucky where every athletic event charged admission, I took full advantage of Virginia's system.

I'm 6'5", and Euton is noticeably taller than I am... I'd say 6'7" to 6'8" easy.

Ballou's Parker seemed to never miss. Rose Hill kept a man on him in the second half and limited his output. But when he was open, he was dead on. The end of the game was a thriller for those that did not attend. Rose Hill was down 6 and began fouling to stop the clock. After Ballou's missed free throw, Euton came down for a quick three. A couple more possessions commence and Rose Hill was down two. Jackson drove to the hoop and tied the game with 1:01 remaining. Time out Ballou. On the in-bounds, Ballou tried to "hail mary" a pass down the court, but the ball hit the ceiling - Rose Hill's ball. Rose Hill turned the ball over on the in-bounds, and Ballou was driving when their guard was called for carrying the ball. Rose Hill comes down the floor and almost turns the ball over again, but they found Chad Jackson under the hoop for a quick two points. Ballou drove the floor in the last 10 seconds (all timeouts were gone with 1:01 left) and created contact on a missed shot. With 0.3 seconds remaining, the Ballou player missed the front end of his two free throws. He purposedly missed the second and Euton got the rebound - ball game.

I was at the game and enjoyed it greatly! No one in the gym expected Rose Hill to beat Ballou - and there was a big buzz after the game. This is the first time that I have seen Rose Hill play this year, and things are looking WAY UP for them. I haven't seen any other 16th region teams this year, but I think Rose Hill's got a shot at getting to Rupp. Chad Jackson was the MVP of this game. He handled the ball well the entire game and created his own offense when Euton wasn't on. Euton was a machine at the free throw line, and in the end, gave the Royals the win. There was also excellent play from the rest of the starters and bench as well. If Rose Hill continues playing like this, they'll go far this season, and even further in the years to come.

Few NBA franchises would choose potential development over potential ticket sales. OJ has enough name recognition to sell tickets. No one buys tickets to see a 6'10" Lithuanian kid improve his game. Remember, most Cleveland Cavs games (home and away) were sold out before Lebron even took the court. And by the way, OJ is reported to be 6'5". I don't know his true height, but a few years back there was a 6'6" guard who could probably be considered a franchise player - I think his last name was Jordan. Sure, he had an extra inch or two, but it was his gameplay and style that made Jordan great - not his height.

Rose Hill senior Sarah Yates has accepted a partial athletic scholarship to play women's basketball for the Asbury College Lady Eagles. Asbury is a small private school in Wilmore, KY (just south of Lexington) that plays in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). From a proud brother, CONGRATS SARAH!!:banana:

I'm a bit suprised that at least one of them did not make the 1st or 2nd team, but the fact that Rose Hill placed three with Honorable Mentions says a lot about the team. Besides Lexington Catholic, Rose Hill, and Scott County, no other team in the state had more than one player listed at all. I'll join that elite company!

Honest Abe is correct in saying that KABC membership is not required to receive votes for either player of the year or coach of the year. I emailed Kerry Stovall, Christian County Boys Basketball Coach and President of the KABC. According to Mr. Stovall, and I quote: By in good standing, he means whether or not dues have been paid.

Congrats to Lexington Catholic on their back-to-back championships. It seems you all have worked hard to get where you are today. As for the Lady Royals, I am SO proud of you all! At the beginning of the year, I would have never guessed that we would make it to the state championship game and give Lexington Catholic a run for their money. And yet, you surpassed everyone's expectations. I'm especially proud of all three seniors! Each of you made a major impact in different games at Diddle! Katie's two threes against Shelby County sparked the Royals on to win. Sarah's two threes within 32 seconds against Franklin-Simpson put a dagger into the mounting F-S comeback. And Kala's 4th quarter against Iroquois pushed us into the finals! You all have definitely put your names down in Rose Hill basketball history. I was so glad I could make it to most of the games in Bowling Green. You all made it a tournament to remember for the rest of your lives! CONGRATS GIRLS!!!
