You are going to pay a little more money for an LCD than you would a plasma or a DLP.

 

If you have a PS3 or a Blu Ray DVD player, go with a 1080p tv. 1080p is the highest quality HD you can get. If you have HD programming on your cable or DISH, the best you can get is 1080i.

 

I really favor Samsung TV's. My roomates both have one and both of theirs are great TV's. When I am in the market to upgrade mine, I'll be looking to get a Samsung.

Good choice on LCD, no burn in risk and run cooler than plasma.

 

Samsung, Toshiba, Sony, Mitsubishi all make good LCD's

 

Sony BRAVIA is what me, my brother and grandfather owns, dad owns a Toshiba.

 

Best advice I can give is go to Best Buy, Circuit City, and Sams Club or a smaller shop in your area and pick the one that you like best, then go here- http://www.avsforum.com/ type in the exact model number and you will get a ton of information. A LOT of those guys have big money ($20,000+) home entertainment systems so they know whats up.

I love my 62" Toshiba DLP.

Walmart has nice deals on brand name TV's. I would go with the 1080P but the 720P will save you 2-300 bucks.

I don't trust wal-mart for an expensive TV. Not sure why, but If I buy one, I'll get it at Best Buy or Circuit City.

I got a 42" LCD Sony. It's great I would recommend getting a LCD and Sony. With the LCD the glare is a lot better and they are suppose to last longer.

I was in the market for one about 4 months ago and someone on here suggested avis forums, the best advice I'd ever gotten. Please, before you buy I recommend doing some research on that forum. The threads are lengthy but well worth it. I prefered LCD because of the burn in risk, however, there are risk associated with LCD as well such as rainbows, halos, etc. Plus the viewing distance from the sides aren't as good with an LCD (that didn't have an effect on me since my TV was on the wall. I purchased the 52' Samsung TOC LCD. Awesome tv and one of the best that the pro's recommend. I bought the Samsung 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound with 8 stand up speakers to boot and my neighbors that are 10 blocks away have commented on my new AC/DC Blu Ray LIVE from Spain disk. LOL. I also firmly and strongly suggest going to places like Best Buy, Circuit City to research and ask questions about the TV you may purchase, however, don't purchase it from them. Buy the TV from Amaazo.com. They honor a 90 day refund if at any time within the 90 days the price drops on the tv. ( I was refunded over $235) Their prices are also the best in the market, you will not find a tv for cheaper anywhere else, guaranteed. I just bought a 50 inch Samsung on Saturday! I am very pleased with it! Also, for anyone purchasing a TV don't fall for the 1080 hype unless all you are planning to do is watch Blue Ray and play video games. HDTV is broadcast at 720, and very few channels are that.

I agree with that also. However, I dominate the HD channels and Blu-ray so I was concerned with 1080i. Samsung delivers!

I know this sounds weird but I had a 42' Vizio (720) and it met an untimely (abusive) death so I replaced it with a 1080 JVC and I really think the Vizio had a better picture plus it had a lot of better features. The JVC takes forever to come on, kinda like the old days waiting for the TV to warm up. The Vizio came right on, maybe the 1080 takes longer to warm up. IDK

The living room in my apartment is about 18-20 feet deep. I'm thinking a 37" would work pretty well for it, and I could get away without getting nicked too bad.

 

Are they easily compatible with video output from a PC/Mac or laptop?

 

How much difference is there really between 720 and 1080?
