  1. Sorry, but these tournaments just don't mean too much. I think players are allowed to play on JV through their junior seasons. Obviously, the better ones don't, most playing meaningful varsity minutes as freshmen or at least as sophomores. If it were truly a sophomore and below tournament, and all regional teams played all of their soon and below kids, then it would be more representative of a team's future. But, they don't. It's apples for one team playing oranges for the other team.
  2. When was the last time that the 12th chose co players of the year? Other regions seem to do it frequently. Doesn't seem like the 12th does.
  3. You said "true" point guards. I've not seen the other 2 play but that's not a label I would use to describe Young. He definitely has a shoot-first mentality which to me isn't a "true" point guard. I don't say that in a derogatory way about him as he's a very good player. If he had the luxury of playing with a true point guard, he'd be a really nice SG. Anyone know if he'll be playing in college? I think he's good enough to play somewhere.
  4. Anyone that doesn't think he's at least top 3 is just plain silly. Kid is special.
  5. Taylor is awesome. Love the way he plays and the conducts himself. Love what I've heard about his academics as well. But I'm not sure I'd call him the best in that class. He's certainly in the top 3-5.
  6. Calling him a PG isn't really a fair description, at least not in the traditional sense! He's simply their best ball handler and scorer. But I agree with you about how good he is. I said before that he is the best offensive player in the region. And I'm talking about as a high school player, not talking about college potentual. This team is really fun to watch. Small, quick, scrappy and can shoot the ball.
  7. So Fraleyy is playing PG. That knocks (senior) Landon Powell out of that spot. Obviously, Sylvester, Butt and Fitzgerald are starting. Who is the 5th starter? Is Powell even starting?
  8. Southwestern lost 2 players to Pulaski over the summer. Many thought that would be their death of that team. They will have much better chemistry this year and, if they're hitting that night, can definitely beat Pulaski. They are so small and elusive which allows them to get their shots off. And there's not a better perimeter shooting team in the state. I've followed the 12th closely over the last several years. In my opinion, Gover is the best offensive player in the region this year. And he is in the running for best overall player. He's that good of a high school basketball player.
  9. It's more about timing than anything. Hawkins and Willis type offers will likely only come when there is an extra scholarship hanging out there for the Cats. And if it happens, those kids have to be ok with limited roles. Maybe Kentucky produces a legit Cal-caliber kid once per decade, and that's just maybe.
  10. Agree. Smith is a top 5 player. I think Faulkner and Fitzgerald are the top 2 regardless of which one you put first. After that, I think Gover then Smith. Sylvester, Gentry and Young after that. The team ratings are a little surprising. Can anyone tell me who did and didn't stay at Southwest? I don't know. Leaving them out for the moment, considering how teams finished the year and who these teams return, how could the coaches not have voted for Casey and Rock in the top 5? Pulaski is the clear favorite. Assuming Southwest retained enough, that'd be my top 4 teams. After that, I'd probably have Lincoln, West and Mercer on the outside looking in. Possibly Boyle.
  11. Maybe I should have said no one has worked has hard as him AND improved as much as a result. Perhaps others have worked as hard. Maybe it's just that his work is more efficient than the others'. I'm not aware of any Kentucky kid that has shown that kind of improvement over the last several years. Again, the results are indisputable. Look, sorry to offend people by shining the spotlight on his work ethic. I have no allegiance or relationship to Beverly. I'm just giving credit where it's due and calling it like I see it.
  12. LarryLegend and Spindoc - I'm not saying I go to all of the gyms and watch these kids. Im just looking at results. Here's a 5'10" kid that, as of 3 years ago, wasn't overly athletic (and certainly wasn't a good leaper), wasn't a good shooter and was a tad heavy. I thought he'd be fortunate to play NAIA. Today, he's still 5'10," but he has transformed his body and his game. He now has a 39" vertical, per an actual measurement. That alone is absurd. He appears very trim and is quick. He's become a dangerous shooter, so much so that he put up 70 in a game for Hargrave. I believe he will now be heading to Ohio State. That amount of improvement is crazy and there's only one way that happened. I don't have to see his gym log to figure that one out.
  13. I don't know of a kid that has worked any harder than what he has. I'd venture to say there's not a Kentucky kid that has put in as much time as him. While he's always been good, he is where he is because of work ethic. Plain and simple. That's admirable and makes me really pull for the kid. Generally speaking, kids and people in general get way too caught up in the D1 hype. As was said, free is free and it really should be about the quality of education and then about the fit. BUT, if he can get a free ride to a high-exposure program like Ohio State, get his degree, handle himself well on the court AND play a meaningful role, the exposure will literally be worth $$$. That's a situation where he would be crazy not to pick an Ohio State type school over a Miami level school. So, a low-mid D1 vs a low D1 or a D2, it makes no difference. But this level, if everything falls into place, could be huge for him after his basketball career ends.
  14. It appears that things worked out really, really well for Mercer. The fear was they would have to settle because of the timing of Cook's departure. On paper, he's an excellent get for the Titans.
  15. To answer your question, not only do I not think this year's team will not be as good as last year's team, I think that statement is "silly." They lost 2 all-state and one honorable mention all state players. They lost eight of the nine players that logged any meaningful varsity minutes. And they lost one of the top coaches in the state after school started. All from a team that was rated as high as #1 and lost 2 games on the year. So you feel that me saying that your comments are "silly" is an attack on your character? It's not. It's a statement regarding your thoughts about sports, plain and simple. Don't see how that can be equated to anything related to a person's character.
  16. Boyle will make it 9 of the last 10 over Danville. I think it'll be close but Boyle will pull away late winning by 10 to 14.
  17. First of all, Trevon isn't going anywhere. He's very connected locally and is a kid that values his fiends and relationships in Harrodsburg. Refreshing and unique these days. Better than last year? Better by subtraction? You "doubt it?" You've put some silly stuff on here before but I think this one speaks volumes about you!
  18. Boyle is 32-5 the last 3 seasons, losing 1, 2 & 2 games the last 3 years. Coming into the season, they had lost a total of 4 games since Smith's return.
  19. I'm not saying that there weren't some things to build upon. However, Boyle County football is too good of a program with too much tradition to be talking about moral victories in a situation like last night.
  20. Is this as impressive as it sounds? Bell is good year after year and this one was pretty lopsided.
