Their cut-off time is pretty early now, but If you follow Josh Moore on Twitter I think he does an excellent job with dwindling resources of the Herald Leader. In my opinion he provides a lot more information then Mike Fields did on social media.(that is not a knock on Mike) But when you have message boards, websites, and social media, what's the need for a paper.

Mercer Co. will be stout on defense if Tyus Short and Grayson Blevins are 2nd team defense, because I saw Bourbon score on them. Also saw the Varsity QB(Gillis?) throw a pick towards the end on the 3rd Q. that put Bourbon up 24-14. Bourbon I think had 3 QBs, and I believe all of them have with no Varsity experience? So I wouldn't put it as a strong showing for Mercer Co. They'll be good but someone need to hold back right now, though they should run through district.

Their QB Aaron Maggard is probably their best "football player" hard nosed kid, they have a nice Athletic WR in Jekobi Wells, but those are the main threats, have some nice young RBs, but not much of a line to block for them IMO. Defense is where they will hurt the most, and might take a few games to adjust.

Going with Ryle, obvious but Tanner Morgan is the difference maker, especially in an early season matchup.

Mercer Co. lost to a young Bourbon Co. team in last weeks scrimmage, I suppose it's a scrimmage, but I don't see that as a positive going against a Top 10 6A team. I think Mercer starts out the season better though, just not in this game.

Fun opening game, if Nicholas Co. can learn how to utilize their offense a bit better, they can win this game. Going with Bethlehem.

I think it'll be close just like last years, I have much respect for Coach Foley and his program.

I'm going to add Jekobi Wells and Aaron Maggard as players to watch, both play for Paris.

Was told that Bourbon County might turn some heads this year, could be a real sleeper. They return the house for the next two years apparently.

Well if you're a 6A school with only one middle school, I'd hope you'd have good numbers in MS.

Allegedly the coach went in there thinking he was holier then the almighty do to his Credntials, put off some of the parents and kids, guess it shows now.

Brandon Ingram will be starting in the NBA after a year at Duke and still be younger than Braxton Beverly...but yet we are lead to believe that Braxton Beverly is a "high major"

Didn't they lose 20 or so to graduation? And an All-World QB? I think 6 is a perfect spot considering...

How does a athlete rich school like GRC have 12 straight loses? If a former D1 coach can't recruit players within his own school, I wonder if he was any good in college.

"7th grader competing in the EYBL" is sort of misleading. He was held back in 2nd grade, so to base his talent and projections as a "5'9, 7th grader" when he should be going into his Freshman year instead of the 8th grade. Not saying he isn't D1, but there are a lot more Demetrius Walkers out there then there are OJ Mayo's.

He'll be well into 15 years of age by the time his freshman season starts, I wouldn't crown him anything yet.

I don't understand why his highlights are from a scrimmage(intersquad?) and another team(I'm guessing Scott?) Did he only play two games? He look like a VERY solid player though.

To be fair they have to have "journalistic integrity" they might of known about it two weeks ago but you don't want to put something in print that isn't official. It's why you'll see things on Twitter hours before it's breaking news on ESPN. Most of us hide under our screen names, but those in the media can't.

So 7 of the top 10 picks in the link were 20/21 when they were drafted...good research man. 22 isn't as bad as 23.

Its miniscule to make the league, but how many schools use education as a recruiting tool. I mean look through the twittwr feeds of major college programs they're not selling free education, they're selling look who we have at the next level. Have you seen the recruiting letters they send out to a prospect where they've photoshopped him at the NFL draft? Actually teams will shy away from 22-23yo draft picks, look it up there's even an article on how the Bengals like to draft young. Like ATLCAT said football is all about shelf life.

I believe Thon was proven to be on the younger spectrum according to a passport. But then you have guys like Brandon Ingram who is 2 weeks older, and even months younger than some certain KY HS Ballers. The pros want young, colleges don't. If anyone wants to look at interesting ages look at long distance runners in college, not uncommon to see 25yo freshman.

Colleges might not care, but NFL/NBA teams do.
