  1. So the PT tweek we heard about was throwing it more? Also, for the PT fans having seen both MF and Graves, how would you say the two stack up?
  2. Cal and Danville are out in front as pace-setters with a pack of really good teams trying to reel them in. I think Cal and Danville are what they are for the most part. Sure, they will get better, but I think Mayfield has the most potential and upside of the group. Going to be real fun watching these horses come down the stretch in Nov and Dec.
  3. In my humble opinion, the blocks in the back are on the players and coaches, not the officials. They are just not going to allow you to head hunt on punts and kick-offs anymore. Everyone was told how it was going to be called, not sure why we refused to listen. We got way too many kids trying to make a SportsCenter highlight by de-cleating someone who doesn't see them coming. Hey, I love watching those hits too. Unfortunately, most of them are illegal now. The rule is what it is. It's time to accept it, adjust to it, and quit violating it. Not sure how many yards we lost to blocks in the back, but it was enough to cost us a game against better competition. My gripe with calls was the holding. When a defensive lineman can't get off a block and gets put on his back, officials will often incorrectly assume there must be holding. Pretty sure the costly holding penalty was just a clean, legal, and honest pancake. Call what you see, not what you assume.
  4. I was real impressed with the MC QB, especially with how well he throws on the run. I like MC's offensive scheme. They really spread you out and test you all over the field. MC's DEs and LBs played great and are very talented. MF played great... for a quarter. Then completely lost focus. Penalties, missed tackles, missed assignments, lack of communication up front, bad passes, dropped passes, fumbled snaps, on and on. Credit to MC for grabbing the momentum and riding it to make this a game. I felt MF regained control when they finally just lined up and stuffed it down MC's throat. Silver lining for MF, they were the better team even when they were playing like crap. Lots to learn from this one and lots of work to do.
  5. Any way to watch this one from afar? I watched several CAL games last year (I believe via CasterSports or something like that) but I seem to have misplaced the link. Thanks in advance.
  6. One thing I noticed about MC is they love to blitz. From anywhere and everywhere and often with multiple extras. Against this MF team, given the offensive line and receiver weapons, such a defense is playing with fire. I'm wrong more than I'm right, but MC may want to reconsider those blitz packages this week.
  7. Since when does Mayfield have 70-90 kids on their team? Might want to count again. McCracken has about as many kids in their football program (frosh, jv, and varsity) as Mayfield has boys in their school. It's not always about the numbers.
  8. This one may be closer than some are predicting. Emotional let-down for MF following the PT game, all the talk about how bad MC is this year, trash talking from GC has already started, MC is convinced MF is their SuperBowl, etc. may factor in early. In the end though, the likes of Cash Jones, Quame Jones, and Tyce Daniel aren't running through that tunnel for MC. MF 28 - MC 10.
  9. Just the facts please. I'll listen to the radio if I want play-by-play. Being a Homer is expected, but no need to be excessive. Finally, it's not open mic night at the comedy club, there is no need to try to show everyone how funny you can be.
  10. I was more looking ahead and wondering if he will play against Mayfield. I sure hope he does. It want matter, and I don't want them to have any excuses.
  11. I got laughed at over the summer when I said MF's defense this year had the potential to be as good, if not better, than last year's. I'm old fashioned and still believe HS defensive football starts with stopping the run and this year's version appears better equipped in that department. They aren't there yet, but it's just week 3, so long way to go and time will tell. I will say this, the current defense is better right now than last year's Arnett-less version that lost that last game. Will it be enough to close the gap with the top tier in 2a? Again, it's still early and time will tell.
  12. Congrats to Corbin. Austin Peay is looking like the place to be on Sept 22nd.
  13. Well, the 5th best team in 2a squeaked out another nail-biter. Seriously though, this win is nothing to yawn at. That's a really good PT team full of speed, size, talent, and stud athletes. I'm sure MF fans will find something to nitpick, because that's just what we do, but this was an impressive victory from top to bottom. Credit to both teams. Hard fought and very physical throughout.
  14. How many of us have actually seen all of the top 5 teams play? Most of us are going purely on scores which can be misleading. The scores say Mayfield is 41 points better than Union City and 29 points better than Hopkinsville. I have watched both games several times and I don't think those scores reflect where the three teams stand/rank relative to each other. Hoptown had a pick six, two late scores on the JV, and a ton of penalty yardage help. UC repeatedly shot themselves in the foot with penalties and had a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown among a host of other self-inflicted miscues. If UC were to play Hoptown, I would probably pick UC. Having studied both, I think Hoptown would have no hope of thwarting UC's running game. Point is, scores and margins of victory can never be trusted to tell the whole tale. My vote, Cal is number 1 until someone proves otherwise on the field, not just assumes otherwise based on margin of victory against incommensurate competition.
  15. To be the man, you gotta beat the man. Until someone beats CAL, they are the man.
  16. A wet track obviously favors PT. However, I wouldn't underestimate the young men who work the trenches for MF. They have been hearing many of the same things this week they heard all summer about Union City's lines. They answered that call and I expect they will rise to this challenge as well.
  17. Slobber-knocker incoming. PTs ground and pound vs MF's strong run defense should make for an interesting match-up. PTs RB, I believe he converted from another position, is a LOAD! I'm anxious to see if PT opts to take away the run or the pass from MF. I don't believe they can manage both. My guess is they take away the big stuff over the top and force MF to earn it on the ground. If MF manages to get up a few scores early it could get ugly, but I think PT keeps it close with MF putting it away late. 27-13 MF.
  18. True statement right there. Crazy thing is, I think they are better right now than most folks realize. Lol, maybe they will crack the top five in 2a after all.
  19. Kudos to the grit of Hville's qb. Young man took a ton of shots, but refused to tap-out. Credit also to Hville's defensive scheme against MF's screen game. Did a real good job of creating traffic in the flats and taking that phase away early. Pretty ugly game with the penalties and turnovers, but hidden between those is the reality that this MF squad has the potential to be pretty darn good. MF has to clean-up the penalties and do a better job covering kicks. A legit return man could have easily taken a couple of those kick-offs to the house. PT appears to be pretty stout, especially defensively, so we should learn more next week.
  20. I'm hearing this thing may not kick off until 8 due to another game being played earlier at the same location. Can anyone confirm or deny?
  21. Ok MF fans, please don't be honest with anyone about what you witnessed in Union City tonight. Remember, we are trying to stay under the radar here.
  22. Priority one for MF will be to stop the fullback. Along those lines, I hope someone puts a bug in the ref's ear to call him for illegal motion. From what I've seen on film, he leaves early and gets a headstart on almost every play.
  23. I asked the same thing and was told: 1301 High School Dr., Union City TN Hope it's right.
  24. This will be a tough game for the Cards. Would like MF's chances much better later in the year when the young pups have had more snaps. I could see this one coming down to a turnover or a bad penalty at the wrong time. Two contrasting styles of very evenly matched teams. Should be a fun one to watch.
