Class 2A

Defending Champion Christian Academy- Louisville takes the top spot after a pair of head turning victories that has confirmed, that despite graduation losses, the Centurions are still the team to beat. Danville has looked equally impressive and will now take on cross-town rival Boyle County in hopes of regaining the Alpha status. Four other teams in the Top 10 square off with ranked foes with Owensboro Catholic potentially being the team most in need of positive momentum after a pair of disappointing results to open the season.

1. Christian Academy-Louisville at 6A Central Hardin

2. Danville vs. 3A #5 Boyle County

3. DeSales vs. 1A #7 Louisville Holy Cross

4. Mayfield at 3A #8 Paducah Tilghman

5. Lexington Christian Academy at Vincennes-Lincoln (IN)

6. Newport Central Catholic at 6A Campbell County

7. Owensboro Catholic at 5A #5 Owensboro

8. Glasgow vs. 3A Fort Campbell

9. Walton-Verona vs. 4A Holmes

10. Somerset vs. 1A #1 Beechwood

If Danville looked equally impressive, why did they drop a spot in the weekly rankings? Just wondering what the thinking is - is it because CAL had more impressive wins or what?

Ghost team still in the top 10.

They did beat Williamsburg at Williamsburg by a couple of touchdowns.

I think its hard to differentiate between Danville and CAL. Just my opinion, the CAL win over South Oldham is the best of the four wins between the two. Danville's Douglass win is second. Their respective wins over Knox Central and Eastern cancel each other out. Plus, if I were the ranker, I'd still give a slight edge to CAL because of their state championship win over the Ads. But the margin is razor thin.

Ram, OC won the first game.

A win can still be a disappointing result

Also on the CAL vs Danville number one talk, I think CAL had more question marks coming into the year. After two games those question marks have been removed and that raised the viewpoints on them. Clearly those two are 1A and 1B for now. They might change again based on what happens this week.

And Mayfield lurks...

That is certainly true, this could turn out to be one of the better Cardinal teams and that says a lot but for now the Cards will be fine sitting on the back of the bus.

Mayfield's 2 victories are just as impressive as anyone's.. I think that'll prove out as the season wears on.. There's an area or 2 that they fall a little short of last years team, but, at the same time, there's a couple of areas that are a little better than last years team and the one component that you can't simply judge from a talent standpoint and that's team cohesiveness and this version of Cardinals seem to have that going for them..

I disagree that these 2 are CLEARLY 1A and 1B for now... I don't think too many people would be all that surprised if Desales, Mayfield or LCA were at #1 at this point.. IMO, there's not an eyelash difference in any of the Top 5 and none of them have done anything to hurt there position.. All have quality wins and all have been impressive in doing so..

I'm not so sure about that. I think DeSales has the 2 most impressive wins so far. I also believe DeSales was the second best team in the state last year in 2A. Remember in 2 meeting with CAL last year they beat us by a total of 12 points.

Is CAL a better team this year than last? Doubtful. Is DeSales a better team this year compared to last? Absolutely.

At this point, there are 6 teams that have the potential to win it all. Lets just see how the season plays out, and enjoy the ride.

CAL has Milton Wright and CAL is #1. That's all that matters. It's like when jonathan Jackson of MF was in class A everyone knee you had to go through his team to win State period. It's the same as Wright. He's a other worldly athlete and to say his team isn't number 1 is crazy talk. #1 until beaten imo

I guess until this week, it was just crazy talk then, because Danville was #1 last week.. These folks that do the voting on here, take it pretty serious.. I doubt they'd take too kindly of you calling there voting crazy.. I still contend that any of 5 teams could be ranked #1 right now and there wouldn't be a lot of argument, that's how close these 5 teams are.. Certainly no one's separated themselves from the pack, to this point..
