In 2014, the team went up to Louisville on Thanksgiving Day and then on to Beechwood Fri morning. I'm not sure how the coaching staff would want to handle it this year. Heading East and losing an hour on Fri means leaving pretty early.

Take Hernandez and Mills. Those names may not be that well known outside of Mayfield, but realistic MF fans know you can't ask a Sophomore to come in and be as good on his first day on the job as either of those young men were on the last day they hung up their pads. Moving from LB to safety or moving to DLine when you have played LB since the 3rd grade takes a game or two to get comfortable. So in that sense, yes we have some spots that are developing. I feel confident the potential is there. Just look at who forced one of those safeties against MC. That kid is a stud and has future star written all over him. If you think MFs defense is a 'problem' then you better come play them now, because you will want no part of them come November.

What an amazing picture! So it goes at MF... that kid will grow up to wear a red helmet and become a hero to another generation of youngsters who dream of following in his footsteps.

MF is rock solid at linebacker. D line and dbs are inexperienced by virtue of age or playing new positions. The talent and ability are there, just need more snaps under the tutelage of some of the best defensive coaches in the state. No worries. By playoffs, teams will struggle mightily to find points when facing MF.

So many of these posts start out giving MF credit, but then they can't help sliding in a caveat or two. Well injury this or penalty that. Even better, if there hadn't been a 1st qtr... Enough already. MF is the better team and it's not nearly as close as you would want it to be.

I would happily take that 5 for 5 bet as well. Just rewatched the film and MF left a ton of plays on the field. If MF makes just half of the plays they normally make, that thing would have been a blowout. Trust me, MF was and is the superior team.

Corbin is better than any team Danville will play all year? Even including potential playoff matchups?

Did the decision to go for it on that 4th down come up on the radio show? I would love to hear his explanation why you don't punt in that situation.

A big part of MFs success in the passing game was MCs inability to consistently get pressure on the qb without bringing extra players. MFs o-line more than held their own against an amazing d-line.

Doesn't matter how many you got on the sideline, you can only put 11 on the field at a time and MF's 11 was consistently better than MC's 11.

The tech factor was a HUGE problem. The TV screen and cameras were one thing. Used in conjunction with the wristband the transfer took with him in the off season was borderline cheating in my opinion. Watched that film several times and it was night and day once MF started huddling after the signals were stolen. Call it excuses if you want, but you will never convince me MF loses that game without the 'borrowed' play band.

It was 31-31 heading into OT a year ago. I think MF's offense is ahead of where they were at this point last season. Defense is better as well . Special teams are a work in progress, but getting better. Mix it all together, throw in some of the randomness of hs football (turnovers, stupid penalties, mixed PATs, etc), sprinkle on some great coaching and voila... MF 34, MC 31 in another gut wrencher.

Props to the kids on both teams for getting through this nightmare. 2nd half was played with more spirit and fight than I would have expected given the circumstances. MC appears to be headed in the right direction. I'm proud of the work MF did in the trenches. Clean up the penalties and this MF squad could be scary good.

Any timeclock that will be working a Mayfield game should do some extra conditioning this summer... gonna be lots of running for clocks to do next fall.

I suspect McCracken County's Cash Jones and Tyce Daniel will hook-up for their fair share of passing yards.

I said 'wouldn't it be great' as a tongue-in-cheek aside to the rumors of Hatchell's return that always seem to be circulating. Let's be clear, there is no bigger fan of the MF coaching staff than me. I have said on these very forums that I believe we have the best coaching staff in the state and I wouldn't want my children playing anywhere else or for anyone else (you can find my comments in the MF vs Desales game thread). Morris, Dew, Champion, Ferris and the gang are as good as it gets at what they do. I would never attempt to discredit them and it distresses me that it may have been taken that way. Joe has indicated himself that there will always be a spot open for Hatchell on his staff. Were that to happen, he would just be icing on what is already the best baked cake in the state.

2017 is hard to forecast with the losses to graduation next year. QB: Fox, Stinson, Seay, or Guthrie. RB: Tyler or Matthews. LB: Hurt is a given with several good ones in the pipeline. Tons of great receivers and DBs coming through as well, but it's hard to say who will emerge above the others. I'm not sure how the skilled positions will play out, but MF will be absolutely loaded in the trenches. MF will dominate up front in 2017! We will have all the pieces we need, I'm just not sure exactly what the puzzle looks like when it comes together. No worries, you can safely book your room for BG.

I knew if I mentioned names, I would leave someone out. Yes, Fox will play some receiver and I agree Hurt would make a great TE/slot/possession receiver. K Arnett and Workman would do a great job in that role as well. Wouldn't it be great if Stephen Hatchel were around to help sort it all out?
