  1. I agree on the out route. That is a very high percentage play for BW. Or run the play were Moore scored the 1 TD. Even though BW did have success moving the ball most of the night they were also too conservative in my opinion. In the grand scheme of things it might work out better any way. Is BW now on the side of the bracket where they would face Somerset instead of Mayfield? I would rather face Somerset than Mayfield right now. Somerset seems a little banged up. Plus having already faced them, BW will know what things they need to correct from the first go around.
  2. Not sure why Beechwood played everything so close to the vest. The play calling did not help them out much. They need to open it up more and be less predictable. You play safe when you don’t think you are better than the other team and try to shorten the game. Congratulations to New Cath though. They looked like they wanted it more. Their defense played a pretty solid game considering they were down a couple of starters and they bent but didn’t break. The turnover and the missed FG by BW really killed the Tigers.
  3. If Beechwood were to win state, Coach Rash should be a shoe in for coach of the year regardless of class. They probably lost more than any team in the state and start a freshman and several sophomores on both sides of the ball. Future is definitely bright.
  4. I agree. I think Beechwood will roll, especially if Jefferson is out. 31-7 Tigers.
  5. Beechwood doesn’t have a youth team in the NKYFL. They lost to NCC in the medium school middle school championship. I think NCC was the only team to beat them this year.
  6. Would be good but seems weird they would make him sit in the regular season and let him play in the playoffs.
  7. Who is the transfer that will be eligible?
  8. Can’t go off one game. I still think 7 or 8 out of 10 times, that LaSalle is better than Cov Cath. Just like there is no way Lexington Catholic is on even terms with Cov Cath. Matchups can dictate a lot as can off nights. Talent wise Lasalle has a ton more than Cov Cath. And yes NCC played for a while but I think they played against the smaller GCL schools.
  9. Great job by the Tigers. BW getting better each week. Not sure how the playoff brackets will shake out, but I think with the way the BW defense is playing, they could be a tough out. Beating Somerset, Mayfield or Lexington Christian will be tough, but they won’t have to beat them all. And if they get to play at home anything can happen.
  10. Fred has rolled everyone. 6 shutouts in 7 games. Beat Tates Creek 62-14, and Tates Creek should have beat Lexington Catholic. Fred has major talent, more than Cov Cath. For Cov Cath I think last night was an aberration and they still are not what they were last year or the year before. I could be wrong, but I am staying with that. Frederick Douglas will win 5a.
  11. Nice work young Tigers. Beechwood has some nice young talent in the middle school, freshman and sophomore classes. Bright future ahead.
  12. Well Highlands did handle both SK and Ryle so they should be ranked higher. I would rank now 1. Cov Cath 2. Conner 3. Highlands 4. SK 5. Ryle 6. Beechwood 7. Cooper 8. Scott 9. Lloyd 10. Newport Catholic
  13. Not this year but most years it holds true. They would have done just fine last year against similar size schools across the the river.
  14. Beechwood has played teams in the past from Ohio and beat them. They lost to Taft this year 7-3 and could easily have beat them. They have beat Ironton and Lima fairly recently. Beechwood is down this year but would have no problem competing in Ohio against similar size schools. They would never compete with the big schools obviously but would be fine against D3 and lower.
  15. Pretty hard. I think only 2 starters on offense returned and 2 on defense. Williams, Shepard and Hergott were the only ones who started last year. I think they are starting a freshman and 5 or 6 sophomores as well this year.
  16. A lot of kids go both for Beechwood as well. Probably at least 8. I think for BW they have a couple of lineman and the QB that don’t play defense but BW is also well conditioned. BW is also down a couple of starters tonight. I like BW to control the 2nd half and get the win.
  17. I think Boyle is the 3rd best team in KY and Highlands the 4th best team in 5a. Boyle is loaded with talent. Boyle 35-10.
  18. I think Lloyd will be the biggest threat to Beechwood, but Newport is much improved.
  19. This will be a tough game for Beechwood. Taft is 3-1 and the only loss was to a really good Wyoming team. They are coming off a win up in Cleveland against a decent team. They are long and athletic at the skill positions. I think the QB and a couple of the receivers are in the 6’4” range. They don’t have a ton of kids, so a lot will go both ways, but they will be tough to contain in space I am sure.
  20. Last year I think the game would have been a lot closer had Derry stayed healthy. He was a big part of the game plan and they went right down the field and scored to lead with him and then he got hurt. The game plan was gone and it got out of hand in the 2nd half. I think BW keeps this one closer. Competitive and in the 28-14 range.
  21. I have a theory that Beechwood pulls this one out... Pulaski County lost by 7 to Lexington Catholic, Pulaski County beat Corbin by 1, Lexington Catholic lost to Cov Cath by 2, Beechwood beat Corbin by 16. So that tells me that Beechwood is 15 points better than Pulaski, and 8 better than Lexington Catholic, so 7 better than Cov Cath, right?
  22. I have no idea what the situation is, but if I were the coach I would have my game plan around #13. He should touch the ball a lot. Be it on runs, reverses, screens, slants, fades, whatever, you need to get him the ball or not play him. Long kid with speed, some size and a ton of athleticism, that is rarely involved, is a head scratcher. This is high school and when you have what that kids brings athletically, it can win games for you. I was shocked how little he was involved last night.
  23. Cooper was better that night but that was a night where BW had all new starters on the o-line and d-line for the first time in 3 years. Not saying Cooper isn’t still better, but the Beechwood team I saw last night is night and day better than the team I saw against Cooper and even last week. Now maybe it was just the matchup and scouting last night but it looked like a different team. For the record you can’t take plays out of a game, but I wasn’t impressed with neither Cooper or Beechwood that night. And I think this is the worst SK team in years, so not sure they should be that high. Maybe NKY football is just way down.
