This class has shown it has three serious players to take home the title in Lexington Christian Academy, Somerset, and Mayfield for the 2019 season. We have several teams who are flying under the radar in Owensboro Catholic, Breathitt County who is undefeated at 9-0. We also have much improved Beechwood team who was dismantled by Somerset earlier in the season. Who could spoil the plans of the top 3 mentioned above? Maybe someone not even mentioned.

Not sure if there is one. Seems like it’s a four horse race. I think Owensboro Catholic’s struggles with Mayfield in the last few years and Breathitt County’s overall air of mystery makes it hard to pick a sleeper. In truth, I might be as interested in West Carter as any other team in 2A.

Breathitt County is a complete wildcard.

 

Owensboro Catholic has the Offense to upset anyone on a given night, but not sure they have the playmakers on Defense.

 

Breathitt County may flame out in Round 3 or they may be the best team in the Class. It is impossible to tell against their schedule.

 

I do know that CA Collins is as good as any player in Class 2A and the Bobcats are not lacking for confidence. My gut read on them is that they will surely reach the Semi-Finals at the least. I don't see West Carter or Walton-Verona having enough Offense to beat them.

I’d go with Breathitt County myself. Just because like ATL stated, no one truly knows how good they really are.

Owensboro Catholic & Beechwood

 

While Somerset/LexChristian/Mayfield get all the pub, OwCath sits in the 4 spots ready for the playoff push!

Beechwood, they are battle tested and with the right draw could go far.

Ocath - put up tons of points, which can keep you in just about any game.

 

Breathitt - undefeated, but weak schedule.

I think Breathitt and Beechwood are the only 2 teams outside the top 3 with any chance at all of making it to the championship game.

Would have said Murray until the injury train hit. Never sleep on Beechwood.

Breathitt County is the sleeper team. I’m looking forward to seeing how they perform against Pike Central. If they beat them like Belfrey did last weekend, then they are legit.

It depends on if the Anderson kid plays for Pike Central.

 

If he plays and Breathitt dominates like they have every other game then that should definitely be a game for 2A to take notice.

 

If Anderson doesn't play, anything other than a Breathitt convincing win would definitely damper their chances of being a Title Contender.

 

Without Anderson, Pike Central becomes a much more predictable Offensive team.

I definitely think the sleeper team are Breathitt and Owensboro Catholic. Breathitt will be in Round 3 and still might have a favorable matchup and the scary thing is no one really knows how good they are. We know the have a good RB and a good line but are the other guys good enough? Owensboro Catholic put up a

lot of points. They have a very good HS QB in Drew Hartz and they have a few weapons, but can their defense get enough stops against good competition.

 

I would not consider Beechwood a sleeper. They are Beechwood. The word sleeper should never be associated with them.

If Beechwood were to win state, Coach Rash should be a shoe in for coach of the year regardless of class. They probably lost more than any team in the state and start a freshman and several sophomores on both sides of the ball. Future is definitely bright.

Sadly for Breathitt, I don't think any margin of victory this Friday proves anything. If they roll over PCC, it is what a good team should do. Does anyone think PCC should be within 3 TD's of Breathitt? I don't.
