If Beechwood were to win state, Coach Rash should be a shoe in for coach of the year regardless of class. They probably lost more than any team in the state and start a freshman and several sophomores on both sides of the ball. Future is definitely bright.

 

I don’t even include Beechwood as a sleeper, even though I know they are “down.” Beechwood winning a state title wouldn’t surprise me that much, although I’m not picking them to win it.

In my humble opinion, Breathitt has the best running back in 2A and having played such lopsided games, he’s fresh. He’s running behind 6’7” 320 pound D1 prospect Conner Deaton. Breathitt will score on any team in the playoffs.

For those sleeping on Beechwood. Taft, who the Tigers lost to 7-3 earlier in the season, is 8-1 and projected to be No. 1 in Ohio Division V, Region 20, has won 27 consecutive Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference games.

 

That loss looks a lot better than most thought when it happened. Taft is really good.

I agree. Beechwood can never be considered a sleeper. They just might be one rung of the ladder below the top 3 teams. In my earlier post I said Breathitt and Beechwood were the only 2 teams that have a chance to make it to the title game outside of the top 3 teams that the original poster listed. To be honest, no "sleeper" team is going to do any more than make a "little" bit of noise in 2A, or almost any class for that matter.

 

I think there are no more than 3 or 4 teams in any class that are capable of winning the championship. 1a and 3a seem to be a little more wide open than the other 4 classes but still have a definitive favorite in each with Pikeville and DeSales.

 

However I do always like these threads like this and it's fun to talk about an unexpected team making a run and even more fun when it actually happens.
