  1. I would imagine St. X Ohio is just better. They have played a brutal schedule and only lost by 2 to a loaded Colerain team.
  2. NCC has gotten better. This was a good game for Beechwood after the district games. Beechwood fumbled at the NCC 3, had a TD catch ruled the TE was out of bounds and then the next play a blocked FG. Then the blocked punt for an NCC TD kept it closer. I thought the NCC offensive line did great pass blocking. BW got very little pressure on the QB. NCC played hard and it was nice for Beechwood to be able to get guys a full game with some pressure on them.
  3. This is where all Beechwood games can be listened to. Hope it works. Beechwood Tigers v. Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds | 2
  4. They crushed Scott County and were rolling teams over 4 games until Frederick Douglass killed them. They are really athletic and fast.
  5. Good luck. Looks to be a tough road for SK. Henry Clay in round 2 and if fortunate enough to get by them, then it's Frederick Douglass, who might be the overall best team in KY.
  6. CC DB’s are not big at all. Michael Mayer is big but don’t think he will be covering the WR.
  7. Why? Newport has struggled to get kids to come out, and the last two times they played Beechwood it was a combined score of 138-38. I don’t know when the last time Lloyd beat Beechwood, and the games are usually lopsided and right now Holy Cross is closer to Dayton then they are Ludlow. With what Beechwood has in the high school right now, for the next few years, the district games will not be close.
  8. It was 42-0 after 1 qtr. starters were pulled in the 1st qtr. JV rest of half. 55-0 at halftime. All freshman backfield the entire 2nd half. 10 minute running qtrs in 2nd half.
  9. Beechwood doesn’t even report tackles by the defense. And as VOR said, playing a QTR doesn’t benefit a players stats.
  10. Beechwood coaches don’t care about stats. I think it’s unfair to the Beechwood seniors to tell them to sit it out. They will play at least the first qtr. it’s not their fault Dayton is in this situation.
  11. Mayer is a basketball player as well. Played a lot as a sophmore on the state championship team. He is pretty athletic. Not sure how fast Smith was. Mayer is not super fast but fast enough and athletic enough to do very well. ND recruited him as a TE.
  12. No issue there and agree a great night. Just think this Beechwood team will be at its best grounding and pounding the ball.
  13. I don’t think they are thinner, they just have a very small sophmore class. They have 33 juniors and seniors. 16 seniors is the most they have had in a while. If they dressed the freshman they would have like 65 kids.
  14. I agree. My only gripe is that they have a very good run blocking line, but try to run the spread too much. When they went power in the 4th, with Hergott under center and a full back, they rammed it right down SK’s throat. They did the same early in the year and then got away from it against Corbin and Cov Cath.
  15. It was kind of odd. They called at least three bad holding calls, one on a long kickoff return and two others after about 20 yard runs. On top of that they called two really bad personal foul calls, where the refs closest to the plays didn’t throw it but both times the ref right by the SK coach, and at least 20 yards from the play, threw the flag.
  16. Not sure SK will be bigger up front. Beechwood has 4 lineman who have now been starting for three years. They have two lineman that have committed to D1 schools. Derry is 6’3” 270 and Dayton Baugh is 6’4” 265. Duncan Baugh is 6’4” 220. I expect a good game. Beechwood will have to contain the QB and keep him from running all over and make him be a passer.
  17. Nope but I give Holy Cross credit. They played as hard as they could and were playing a bunch of young kids. After the running clock they put in a freshman QB and the kid hung in there. Completed a few passes then got lit up and came right back in. Also give Kozerski credit for sticking with HC. I think in a couple of years they can be competitive.
  18. Highlands has beat some decent teams. But at the end of the day there just are not very many good teams in NKY. To be honest there really are not that many good teams in all of KY. It is what it is. Highlands will win most of their games this year, and get roughed up by Cov Cath. I see a lot of improvement though and think the future is bright for Highlands. Right now they are a top 2 or 3 NKY team and could be the top team in a couple of years.
  19. Actually have a freshman in at QB, (14 Nelson) Kid is not ready at all. Crazy for a school that size to have to put him in.
  20. They don’t play any guys both ways. I think this is great for the kids, however I am not so sure this helps them be the best they can be. I think at least, Cogswell, Courtney and Jon Sergent could help them be a better team if they played on both sides of the ball. Maybe not 100% of the time, but at times. Cov Cath plays about 7 or 8 guys both ways and they are better for it.
  21. I would think Highlands gets the win. SK has played teams that are 6-19 so far and highlands 14-11. SK is not strong in the passing game, and the QB is by far the leading rusher so far. If Highlands contains the run, they probably win rather comfortably. I say 34-17 Highlands.
  22. This is interesting. First is the team from Colorado really driving for this game? And do high schools buy games out? Didn’t realize there were contracts for high school games that you would have to pay to get out of. I think South Warren wins big.
  23. They definitely have improved but don’t know yet how good they are. The teams they have played are a combined 6-17. The game with Highlands will let us know how good they are.
