  1. I think Ryle is #3 and then any one of Beechwood, Cooper, SK, and even Conner could be next. It will all play itself out over the next few weeks. I believe if Ryle didn’t start with Cov Cath they would be penciled in at #3 by everyone. Ryle should be though. They are a huge school and they have some athletes. They also have a strong feeder program. I thought BW was about 10th before last night after the first two weeks but they showed me something last night and I expect them to keep getting better. It was tough replacing the entire offensive and defensive lines like they did. But they controlled the line of scrimmage last night. Corbin had no answer. Now it could be Beechwood just really improved or Corbin is in for a tough year. Time will tell, but Beechwood always gets better.
  2. I think it says Beechwood improved and had a great game plan. I think It says Corbin starts a freshman QB who was playing on the road for the first time, which was a tall task regardless of who they played. For the rest of the way for BW they will lose to Cov Cath and I think they win out after that in the regular season. In 2A I feel it’s Somerset, then Mayfield, then Lexington Christian, then Beechwood. A lot can happen between now and December. As for Corbin I think they will be a 6 and 4 team and will get better as the year goes on but won’t be a threat in 4a. I think next year they will be really good.
  3. Noel had a great game plan tonight. He knew Corbin’s freshman QB would have to beat them and they decided to take away the run. That was the end of the game pretty quick. The QB for Corbin has a bright future but they will have some growing pains this year. Get the Cov Cath game out of the way for BW and they should finish strong after that. I was talking to a Corbin parent after the game and he said they lost their starting running back in practice this week, so tough break. They get Bowling Green this week, so that is a tough bounce back game. They are young so Corbin will be back.
  4. Lol. Because that’s what you get when you go to those Catholic Schools? I guess I forgot how great officiating was at all of the other middle school games. You do realize a lot of people, who are Catholic, send their kids to Conner, correct?
  5. I am going to say this one is closer than what people think. BW is down but Corbin is pretty young. I believe Corbin has a freshman QB and their best athlete, who is really good, is a sophomore. Game is at Beechwood. I say Corbin wins 20-14.
  6. I think Ryle is probably the third best team in NKY. They are much improved and if they didn’t start with Cov Cath, probably would be much higher up the list. Cov Cath will make everyone look bad this year in NKY. I think Ryle will handle Cooper this week and make a big jump.
  7. Pretty crazy, but Mason has over 3,500 students. You can get lost at the school. Oak Hills 2,500, SK 1,700.
  8. Oak Hills played and got drilled by East Central, from Indiana. East Central is usually pretty solid, so who knows.
  9. I get Ohio football is stronger. But Anderson isn’t Elder, St X, LaSalle or Moeller. Never has been and never will be on that level consistently. They are not even consistently on the level of Winton Woods. I guess my point was that I don’t think this Anderson team is very strong and they were much better last year. Even people around the Anderson program know this isn’t a very strong team and feel they will be lucky to win 5 or 6 games. To me Simon Kenton getting handled like they did is not a good sign for them in 2019. Maybe they will learn a lot from the game and prove me wrong. But from what they have left on the schedule, it could be a rough year. I don’t see them beating Highlands, Johnson Central or Ryle.
  10. I don’t know about that. Last year Anderson lost to Kings 35-14, who Cov Cath put a running clock on. Anderson is no power house. Highlands would beat them and Cov Cath would roll them in my opinion.
  11. Beechwood embarrassed Somerset last year, in a game that was called in the 2nd QTR, because of lightning. I am sure Somerset will be talking about that all week. Not looking good for Beechwood. Hope they can get healthy.
  12. I was talking to some friends that know Anderson well and they said Anderson is down. Smaller than normal and numbers are down as well. Not expecting more than a .500 season if that. I know Elder is really good but heard both Elder and St. X really crushed Anderson in the pre-season. I don’t think losing to Anderson is horrible but to lose as bad as they did, at home should be a concern for SK fans.
  13. They lost a lot from last year. Realistically they are probably a 6-4 team this year and probably the 5th or 6th best team in NKY in my opinion.
  14. It looks like Paintsville is really young. On the roster they have more freshman than seniors. Beechwood lost a lot but still has a good group of seniors and an experienced QB. That means a lot, especially early in the season, so I will go with Beechwood 31-14.
  15. I expect a very big year from Josh once he gets his legs under him. Size wise he is not as big as you mentioned. Probably 5’10” or 5’11” 190. He dropped weight Because he wanted to be a running back. He was a full back last year and about 210 before he was injured.
  16. For Beechwood Josh Derry is the running back and he is back after getting injured early last year. Expect him to have a very good year once comfortable again. You didn’t mention him as the running back. I also think Beechwood is in for a rebuild. They will probably win 7 games, I think they will lose to Cov Cath and Corbin, and Somerset will be a tough one for them. Also Taft was pretty good last year, but I think they lost a lot. I think right now SK and Ryle are probably also ahead of them, so I think 5th is probably a fair starting spot. Replacing your entire offensive and defensive lines is tough to overcome, especially early on.
  17. Cooper had like 12 kids not dressed and a few were some big kids. Are they missing contributors right now? Lee is good and the QB has potential. The RB was not bad either and they had some team speed. I do not think they will compete much in 5a with Cov Cath and Highlands. I thought Cooper looked on the small size. As for Beechwood they have a ways to go. Pass blocking was Ok but they really struggled run blocking and blocking down field. Noel must have expected it because he seemed rather laid back with what was happening on the field. The last TD for Beechwood in the varsity portion should have been picked off. Went right through the safeties hands. Was impressed with a few of the younger Tigers as they seemed athletic and physical. Campbell the freshman is really aggressive and comes down field hard on his blocks when at fullback.
  18. Again not knocking the kid. My thought was that he should at least stay with football for a while. I think he will end up in the 6’6” range and would be a great tight end or defensive end. Basketball is for super freaks (or very tall) these days and I am just not sure he will be that. And like I said, he will be a very good high school player and will play at some level in college.
  19. I think this is a bit much. Chandler is a very big and mature kid for his age, but to say he will be one of the best players in the state is not fair to the kid. I also don’t think he is 6’6” but probably 6’4”, unless I have grown. In my opinion, I thought he always projected better in the future for football because I just don’t think he will be super tall (6’8” or taller) and he is not super athletic. In order for him to be top 75 when he is a senior, it will require him to acquire more skills to shoot consistently from 3, and put the ball on the floor. I do think he will be a very good high school basketball player through and should be able to play at some level in college.
  20. Really? I think Beechwood will make a deep run. They have some adjustments to make, but should be good. My guess is that Mayfield and Lexington Christian will be tough. Also, didn’t Beechwood beat 6 A SK last year at SK? I would guess they can compete in 2A.
  21. That’s great. But I would imagine if a 6a school has to go with a freshman QB, it will be another average year in Independence, KY. Almost sounds like the football team is following the basketball model at SK if that is the case.
  22. I think Moeller has been successful for a lot longer than 2 years. They have lost a combined 4 games over three years and have only lost more than 5 games in a season once in the last 13 years. And how are they any more boring than the other teams you mentioned? I am pretty sure they have sent more kids D1 over the last 10 years than the other schools mentioned combined. But as for the young man in question, if he lives in NKY, I would go to Cov Cath.
  23. Oh I agree and there are plenty of football players that could have helped teams but they chose to not play. May be they are just wore out from a long football season which goes about 9 months these days with all of the preseason workouts and summer practices and then a long season.
