What I meant as far as the QB goes, with the weapons and size at the skill positions, the QB will be fine at Cov Cath. This is high school not college. I am not a Cov Cath fan but as an outside observer and watching them play and what they have coming back, I think it’s wishful thinking on your part to think they will take a big step back next year. Which will he needed for teams in NKY to beat them. The only NKY team to beat next years Cov Cath seniors in their freshman, sophomore and junior seasons was beechwood when they were freshman. I think Highlands has a chance to be better but in my opinion they won’t beat Cov Cath in 2018.

Didn’t say QB doesn’t matter. They were at least 5 TD’s better than everyone in NKY last year. Do you really think because they lost the QB and a few other guys that they are going to fall that far back? They put running clocks on everyone in KY and the QB rarely played more than 2 or 2.5 qtrs.

I think Cov Cath will be heads and shoulders above the rest of NKY. This past year it wasn’t even close and they still return a ton including basically the entire o-line. Mayer is considered one of the top TE’s and defensive ends in his class in the country for a reason and then you have your running back, back and Coldiron back who is also a 6’5” receiver as well. I don’t care who the QB is. How do you cover both? They also have another 6’4” receiver, who will be a senior. It will be very tough for HS DB’s to cover all of that size and as big as they are, they can all run. After Cov Cath it’s BW, SK, Highlands and Ryle, but they are not on Cov Cath’s level in my opinion.

Ok. I don’t think Beechwood thinks they are beating Cov Cath and going to go to Rupp this year. They think they can win the All A. They don’t care how tired they are afterward if they do. I am sure the young men playing are having fun, which is what it is all about.

Agree but that’s why you teach them a few things and not many. Make sure they can do one or two things well.

I don’t know. Make sure they know how to properly get in a stance first, learn proper blocking techniques, learn how to tackle properly with your head up, keep everyone involved and having fun and go from there. Also I don’t think it matters what or how many defenses you run. Coach kids the right techniques, learn the game the right way and they will get better. If you can teach and the kids can execute, you can be successful, regardless of the number of defenses or sophisticated offenses you run.

Middle school football should be about development. Many kids don’t start playing until 7th or 8th grade. No reason to confuse them any more than they already are. Keep it simple stupid.

Dayton is non-scholarship but most of the non-scholarship teams do make it more affordable by finding different grants and other non athletic scholarship money.

Who is the OC for Highlands? Heard John Rodenberg may be coming on board.

I think the sophomore to be is related to Eviston. They have a junior QB that has shown to be pretty good as well. Backup this past year and also played JV. I think has only lost to Trinity twice and beechwood as a freshman in 3 years.

They return the entire o-line, running back, full back, will have and two 6’5 receivers back. I think they really only lost 3 or 4 on offense and on defense even with losing Cam they still return at least six starters I believe. QB is a big hole but still think they will be loaded.

Locks onto one receiver, throws high balls, struggles with out routes, never under center, very thin. Has some potential though. If you are asking, he is not in the same league as AJ Mayer. As for NKY, where I have seen a lot of the QB’s, he would have been a backup at a lot of those schools.

I agree. Maybe a rule similar to baseball. Don't tell kids to stop shooting. Hopefully they can at least work on things like a practice and are not continuing to fast break and cherry pick.

This is correct. My point was they were not waiting for a bunch of football players, although they could use some of the athletes. The Baugh twins will help with rebounding and defense but it shouldn't take a month. They will be able to help with defense and rebounding and give some fouls rather quickly. I think they are already playing and are in fine shape.

Not many football players play basketball at Beechwood anymore for whatever reason. Football this year has very little impact on Beechwood basketball.

Walter is a legit 7 foot. Very young for a senior, only 16. Xavier will develop him I am sure.

You are right. I don't think anyone claimed they did but even if they would have, it doesn't matter. Kids are resilient. Getting crushed probably hurts the parents more than the kids. It's just sports. Learn and move on.

Not sure. For whatever reason Beechwood has just not embraced girls basketball. I know a lot of girls chose club volleyball instead of basketball.

Beechwood didn't have enough 8th graders to field an 8th grade team so the 8th graders play JV and varsity. all of the beechwood players playing right now on JV and varsity are 8th, freshman and sophomores. The only returning player from last year varsity is hurt and she is the lone player from the upper class. Going to be a rough year so hopefully in a few years they can be competitive.
