  1. Will be departing Bowling Green in a couple of hours. Can't wait. I hope it's a good game. My prediction is a 27-14 St. X win.
  2. I gotta believe St. X has the edge here. Coach Wallace knows his old team inside and out. Plus he knows the coaching staff and their tendencies. I know Bowling Green has made some changes offensively, but still. I also believe St. X offense and defensive line will really cause Bowling Green problems. The Purples OL really struggled against a big Central Hardin front in the Rafferty's Bowl. Now Bowling Green's OL played great against PRP on Friday. But I believe Central Hardin's line was much better than PRP. If Bowling Green's OL can't protect Beau Buchanan or give Vito and the other RBs space they will be in trouble. Bowling Green played very well Friday so I feel better about their chances versus the opening game.
  3. St. X definitely has the edge here. I think their OL/DL are going to cause a lot of problems for Bowling Green. And Coach Wallace knows the Bowling Green team inside and out obviously. He also knows the coaches and system. Coach Wallace was spotted at the EL Donaldson stadium Friday night to personally scout his old squad. I will heading up to Louisville Friday unless something major pops up. We'll see what happens. BG better bring its A game for sure.
  4. Great game for Coach Spader and the Purples. They looked much improved for the opening game against CH in the Raffertys Bowl. The defense played outstanding again, but the biggest improvement came from the offense. I thought this week the OL was miles better than it was last week. PRP was not nearly as good as they were last year, but they had some athletes. The play calling was a lot better as well. Glad to see them open up the playbook a little with some longer passes. I thought the team looked much improved and played with some swagger this week. Next week could be interesting.
  5. I have no idea what to think here. I'm glad BG got the win Saturday and I love coach Spader, but I thought BG looked terrible to me. Offensively they struggled once they got into the redzone, over and over again. I realize they had what? 4 touchdowns called back. But BG missed several field goals that should have been made. They couldn't find a way to score after those penalties. They couldn't put the ball in with 1st and goal with the game on the line with 2 minutes left. The offense looked stagnant and very bland. The play calling was bad to me and very predictable. I realize the plan was to run the ball more and I think that can help them. But the OL looked absolutely terrible. I also thought some more shots down the field wouldn't have hurt. I mean the Purples didn't do anything stupid, they didn't turn the ball over, they didn't have any bonehead plays or bad passes, it was just the offense was couldn't go anywhere. That's a bad sign. And perhaps the worse sign was that BG didn''t get better in the second half, they got a lot worse. One of the things that made Bowling Green great was their ability to adjust and come out better in the second half. That didn't happen Saturday for sure. Defensively I thought BG was fine. Gave up a couple of long passes that shouldn't have happened, but no big deal I think. One thing that stands out to me is that Bowling Green has the best secondary player in the state, but he didn't play in the secondary at all Saturday. I thought he at least needed to be out there on that last series where Central Hardin had to start throwing deep. I realize the plan is to have him running the ball and limit his carries cause they need a running back, but it's hard to imagine the best secondary player in the state on the bench in that situation. I don't have any idea what PRP brings back, but they whooped our tail last year that's for sure. I was at that game and they just flat ran over BG and ran by them. Unless PRP has gotten a lot weaker I don't see how this BG teams beats them. I hope they come out fired up and play better to get this win though. I hope the Rafferty's Bowl was just a bad game, but I saw a lot that really concerns me as a Purples fan.
  6. The Purples are hot! And by hot I mean they are mad. They know they got flat out embarrassed by that loss to South Warren that ended their season. And the Spartans let them know about it afterwards too. But that's over. They can't do anything to change that. However the Purples have been waiting all offseason to take out some steam and CH just happened to be first team available. I believe Bowling Green has an experienced group coming back and that has been focused. Hopefully when your focused that means you do the little things right. Many are keying in are Wallace leaving, but don't forget this is still a talented group. The flip side Bowling Green has a new head coach running the program for the first time since 1996!! However, Coach Spader has been a major player on the coaching staff for years and he returns a lot of the same coaches and personnel that's been there for quite a while. So how much is really going to change? Coach Spader is going to have do things his way and what he thinks is best, but I don't believe it is going to be an enormous change. Defensively I don't think much at all or at least not what wouldn't have changed anyway even if Wallace was still there. Coach Spader was running the defense under Wallace. Now the BIG question mark what does Wallace's departure mean for the offense? Wallace was the mastermind behind the offense. And the good news is Bowling Green kept the same offensive coordinator from last season. Now I realize coach Wallace called most the plays and such, but the Purples aren't starting from scratch offensively here. Coach Spader has said he would like to more success with the run game to go along with the passing game. I think this can do nothing but help BG if the strategy is used correctly. BG has talent to run the football very, very well. Combine that with an improved passing game and an experienced Beau Buchanan that is about 40 pounds heavier after an offseason nutrition/exercise plan and the offense could really surprise some folks. I believe the Purples take out some anger on CH on Saturday and win big to setup two big games the following two weeks. Bowling Green 50 Central Hardin 17
  7. CCH will beat this team 50 or 60 - 7 with most likely a first half running clock. They would have beaten BG pretty handily too.
  8. It is definitely a tough loss I believe. It's a loss that shouldn't have happened. BG played about as bad as it could. I think the fact that they still had a chance to win at the end shows just how good BG is. BG beats South Warren 7 or 8 out of 10 times if they played, I have no doubt. BG let a bad game last week carry over to this week. Can't do that in that in playoffs or it can end your season. They don't give regional championships away, you gotta earn it and come to play every week. And they know that, just bad game. It happens.
  9. South Warren came prepared and played much better than they did the first game. Bowling Green had a terrible game last week against Greenwood and I thought it definitely carried over. BG played absolutely terrible tonight. Defense played strong for the most part, but it struggled as well. BG's defense was put in very bad spots that led to a couple of TDs. No reason BG should have lost that game, the Purples just didn't play well. The offensive line was absolutely atrocious and Buchanan made a lot of bad decisions. It wasn't because of lack effort though, he played hard. Purples just didn't have it tonight.

  11. I am very interested to see what, if any changes SOUTH has been able to make for this game. I still say this comes down to BG's ability to protect Buchanan and BG's d-line ability to put pressure on Spurrier and contain Winn. BG got an A+ in these areas during the first meeting and it showed. Will the same ring true tonight? BG struggled last week against a pretty weak Greenwood team. So BG must come out a lot stronger that's for sure. Also curious as to what the crowd will be like since Western is playing MTSU tonight. I still expect a good crowd regardless. I plan to get there fairly early. Last time our usual seats by the flag pole were gone.
  12. One of the most underrated characteristics of Coach Wallace is his ability to change and look ahead. When he first started coaching at BG the offense was a run first dominate offense out of basic I-formation. It was pretty much a version of the veer. And they were really successful at it. The talent level there matched that offense. BUT coach Wallace had the foresight to see ahead that schools on the elite level were going to these shotgun, kind of high octane offenses. And I remember BG getting belted a few times by some of these teams and BG's outdated offense just couldn't keep up once they got behind. So coach Wallace began changing and in the early 2000s started running some shotgun and it struggled for while. And for years BG seemed to run a split offense a lot of time, run old veer formation and some shotgun. But overtime the offense completely changed as coach Wallace perfected it more and more. He was also very blessed to have some talented QB's to be able to run that offense. But for years now he has a successful system in place, a way to develop QBs over time so when it is their time they can be successful. Coach Wallace has put in a lot work to remake BG's system compared to the when he first started at BG. And he puts good people around him, which is why many of them eventually leave to become head coaches elsewhere. It's be an amazing 20+ year run for Coach Wallace at BG. His early teams in the late 90s were very successful, but completely different in many ways from his teams now. I hope he continues to coach at BG for awhile. But it wouldn't shock me if he ended up at a much bigger program in another state when he if and when he feels like he wants to move on from BG.
  13. Well Bowling Green is going to have to play a lot better than they played against Greenwood that's for sure. During the first meeting the question was can BG protect Buchanan and control the line of scrimmage? And can BG's defensive line put pressure on Spurrier and keep Winn contained? The same questions apply in this meeting too. South Warren cannot even come close to covering BG's receivers unless the OL fails to give Buchanan time to throw. One of the biggest factors that played a major role in BG's blowout win is conditioning. South Warren was wore out by the early second quarter. Winn was spent and was pretty much done by the end of the first quarter. I don't see that changing, you can't get in better shape very much during the season, especially in just a few weeks. BG has to step up and protect Buchanan. It can't turn the ball over and give South momentum or a short field. South Warren will also try to keep BG's special teams out of it again by kicking out of bound or nearly out of bounds. But BG has to be focused and play much better than it did against Greenwood.
  14. I am planing on making the trip up to support the Purples. I suspect this will be a blow out game and probably a clock runner. Hopefully the Purples leave with no injuries.
  15. BG looked absolutely fantastic tonight. All phases of the game and all positions. I really thought BG's OL and DL stepped up tremendously tonight and looked as good as they have all year. BG looked extremely well coached, as usual, but especially tonight. They were ready for South. Buchanan looked absolutely great tonight. Very poised even under pressure. The OL did a great job of giving him time. And I knew if he had time, South's secondary had no chance to cover BG receivers. They are slow, outmatched and unprepared in every way possible. The challenge was going to be if BG could handle their defensive line pressure and the Purples OL stepped up big time. South Warren looked tired, worn out and beat midway through the second quarter. Winn looked spent after the first quarter. He ran hard but took a pounding. A pounding he isn't used to. He was spent. I've seen the Spartans play these games this year and in all three they were mouthy and a little bit dirty. They were especially mouthy and dirty tonight. Which is a ashame. South Warren played their first real team since they have been around and they got pounded. And it is supposed to be a little bit of a down year for BG too. It was a packed house at the EL and a fun atmosphere, at least it you were a Purples fan. The Bowling Green folks should be proud of this effort tonight, they looked great.
  16. I'll say this, South Warren plays fairly dirty and very mouthy. They did the other three games I watched of theirs this season. But they are really bad tonight.
  17. I can tell you right now this game is going to come down to BG's ability to give Beau Buchanan time to throw the football. South Warren's d-line is really good and BG's o-line has been questionable at times, especially against really good teams. South Warren has not faced an offensive package anywhere near to what BG has. It has faced not the speed of the BG offense. South Warren's secondary is slow, unprepared will probably get lost in coverage. However, BG won't be able to take advantage of that if Beau can't get folks the ball. South Warren's D-line is really good. If the passing game isn't there, running the ball will be a lot more challenging. BG's d-line and linebackers HAVE to show up for this game. South Warren's offensive play package isn't that deep. South Warren's O-line is very solid and they have a fast running back that must be contained. They like to do this misdirection and fake hand off type plays to get him the ball. The D-line must get some penetration and the linabackers have to make plays on Winn. The secondary cannot be the leading tacklers on Winn in this game. BG almost just needs just spy on him. If they can contain him, the majority of their offense goes away. Spurrier has trouble with decision making, he's not very fast on a release or running the ball. But if he has time he has a little bit of an arm and can make a throw. This game will come down to the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. To me BG is at a little bit of a disadvantage on the OL and DL. But if they can step up BG should win. Also watch how South Warren deals with BG's special teams. I bet they kick the ball out of bounds, the endzone or extremely close to the sideline to keep BG's special teams from making a play, even if that means sacrificing field position. Should be good game, but I'm picking BG to win. I plan to get there early. This is South Warren's first visit to the EL and they may not understand the knoll where the BG fans sit. Gotta protect the spots.
  18. I completely agree with this. For anyone to say Trinity is "clearly" better than BG is not correct.
  19. First of all having the games at WKU is just about perfect as far as view and stadium size. The stadium is perfect. Putting the title games in 50,000 seat stadium like Louisville or Lexington would be a joke. Second, WKU is an absolute joke when it comes to pricing and fan friendlyness. That's why they have attendance issues at their home games. Concessions is highway robbery. I never buy anything just out of principal, I don't care how thirsty I am. Then their ushers which are third party people brought up from Nashville were harassing people about their seats. Cops even had to be called. They tried to tell just a few people the red chair backs were reserved for VIP and you had to have a specific ticket for them. That's never been the case that I know of, everyone just sits first come first serve. I don't even know where you can buy VIP tickets, but even if they do exist it was never enforced. Blowouts happen, there blowouts when there was 4 classes too. I don't know what can be done about it if anything. I would be more happy if they would fix the first round of the playoffs. I have been disappointed in the crowds myself not just this year. But attendance seems to be down at games during the rest of the season too. Wish more people would come out like they used too.
  20. I have always been disappointed in the lack of live games being on TV or even streaming. A lot of states all the games on our television. I live in Bowling Green and I can usually watch the Tennessee High School state champions game on one of their on-air networks I get through my antenna. They need to be high quality broadcasted live.
  21. That was a fun game to watch. I thought the Purples looked good. Yes, the offense seemed to have some malfunctions at times and didn't score like a lot of us thought they would. But they still looked pretty good and FC was tough. BG's defense was great. I didn't realize FC had a QB who couldn't throw the ball.....at all. Seriously, was missing little wide-open screen passes. Any team that can't at least pass some is in trouble from the start facing BG. Maybe the stats don't back this up and maybe I am the only person who thinks this, but BG's kickoff return has worried me all season. They just seem to give up way too many yards on kickoffs. Congrats go out to Coach Wallace and all the Purples. Unbelievable run and back in the state finals. I don't know much about Pulaski, I am looking forward to the game. Go Purples!
