  1. Bowling Green is the better team. However the Purples have not looked good since taking it on the chin in Indianapolis. They look out of whack. They don't seem to have that swagger about them and the they lack killer instinct. The OL can't move people, the DL has a big problem of getting worked up the middle and the offensive play calling has not helped them out either. I really thought Bowling Green would have regrouped and been ready for a playoff run, but after last week it doesn't appear to be. Bowling Green didn't look too good against a very mediocre Christian County last week. I mean they still won 29-7 and lead 29-0. But gone are the days of the 50 point blowouts. Bowling Green isn't quite as talented as it has been and a shift in offensive philosophy has changed that. Maybe they are just a team that has to grind it out. But Bowling Green has some big issues on the offensive and defensive line. I think the offensive play calling has been lackluster in the last several weeks as well. There is a little too much stubbornness with trying to establish the run game, specifically running the ball up the middle. The Purples don't attack down field anymore for long pass plays. Maybe they can't. But the Ol and DL are major problems right now. Rash Stadium is a hostel environment and will be a tough place to play. If Owensboro plays like they have been playing lately and BG plays like it has been playing, I believe the Purples will lose in the second round of the playoffs for the first time in a long time. We are planning to make the trip, but I have terrible feeling about this game. At least we are stopping at Old Hickory.
  2. I know BG lead 29-0 late and was one score away from a running clock, but the Purples looked ugly tonight I thought. They look out of sorts and have for the last month.
  3. Well after watching Bowling Green play tonight I have changed my tune. BG has not looked good the last month or so. I was expecting to see a team come out on fire since it was the first round of the playoffs and I did not see that tonight. They do not look good. They just look out of sorts. The receivers are dropping wide open balls, the DL was terrible tonight, our passing game is awful and the play calling has been weak. I now believe the Purples will have a hard time winning next week unless they make a complete turn around. We plan be there Friday night and hit up Old Hickory as usual. =)
  4. Ah okay. Well I still don't think it matters. But Rash Stadium is no joke.
  5. I can tell you this much. An inside run game is the last thing you want to do against South Warren. Trying to do that will put the game out of reach in a hurry. In order to beat South Warren you have to have a great passing attack with a lot of speed for outside running too. I don't believe Owensboro would be any kind of a match against South Warren. I feel the Owensboro/Bowling Green matchup would be closer. BG should win though if it stays focused and doesn't turn the ball over. They are just a better team overall and its at BG. But it is not a game BG can just show up to win.
  6. I feel pretty confidently that BG would beat Owensboro again. The Purples didn't play real well in the first game against Owensboro which was on the road. It won't be an easy game, but Owensboro doesn't have enough weapons or speed to beat a BG team that plays well. However, BG is looking past Owensboro, then it could be a different story. I also feel that Owensboro wouldn't have enough weapons to beat South Warren either. I'd be surprised if Owensboro could score 21 on SW. That game has a South Warren 14-24 point win written all over should those two teams meet.
  7. I think a bye is a must. These first round games are brutal. Without it, the first round send teams with no chance to get blown out and it puts a good team at risk for an unnecessary injury. I believe many schools lose money too because not enough fans show up to some of these first round games too. Let lower seeds play each other first.
  8. Bowling Green should handle its business and could get a running clock.
  9. The Purples will roll over Christian County. Owensboro could be a tough game, but Bowling Green played terrible in their first meeting. If BG plays well they may have an easier time against the Red Devils. But one thing is for sure Owensboro will play hard so you have to be ready. I expect BG and South Warren to faceoff in another shown down. Between the refs and the weather in the first game, it's hard to say who will win that one. If BG doesn't fix it's OL issues then it is pretty clear who will win. But I am confident that neither team will beat Covington Catholic. In fact Catholic could probably handle either of these teams by a couple of scores at least. The 5A title is Covington Catholic's to lose.
  10. This will be a running clock game a with showdown with Bowling Green in the next round waiting.
  11. It all comes down to turnovers and if Bowling Green can control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. South Warren is dang good up front on defense and offense. That is their strength and what makes them so good. I think outside of that South Warren isn't that good. They lack speed overall, they run a very limited offense, they come out like a lightning bolt, but they don't seem to get better as the game goes on and if they ever got behind by more than one score I think they would struggle to come back. The problem they create for teams is if you can't block them and they can block you then you're in trouble. If Bowling Green's QB is under pressure all the time he will struggle. And as good as Tisdale is, the OL has to help him out some and South Warren D-line is really good. Also the question is how will BG respond after last week? Thankfully they came away from that game healthy. This is a hard game to pick, but let's look at last year. Bowling Green put a running clock on South Warren in the first game. South Warren got behind and they were down, BG just opened it up and whipped them. The second game, BG looked like it had its head up its rear end, they came out kind of stagnate. It look like they hadn't changed up anything as far as game plan goes. South Warren changed up a lot. Bowling Green played about as bad as it could and South Warren only beat them by a touchdown. The forecast for this game means it's going to rain before and during the game. The field is going to be wet. It's probably going to be miserable for those of us in the stands. The rain throws a huge variable into the game. If it were dry and I would say confidently that if BG plays well they will beat South Warren by 10-14 points. But with the rain I still say BG wins, but I am definitely less confident.
  12. Finally getting around to posting. I went up for the game. I don't have much to add, but a few thoughts and observations. #1 Out of the many, many high school football games I have seen in my life this Warren Central Indianapolis is by far and away the best team I have ever seen. Period. It is also the only high school football that you had to go through full blown TSA security to get into. Also no leaving the stadium and reentry. Once you left, you had to pay to get back in as well as go back through security. #2. Weather was miserable. It was about 39 degrees and a steady rain the entire game. #3. Warren Central Indianapolis has more than 5000 students in the school. The football team had 38 seniors most had played all 4 years. #4. There was no bad coaching, bad playing or lack of effort. This team was just bigger, faster, stronger at every position. If you can picture in your mind Bowling Green playing Barren County or the older bad Logan County teams, that is what this game looked like. Warren Central didn't run any trick offense or anything. They could do whatever they wanted when they wanted. I've never seen a Bowling Green team so helpless. Again nothing to do with coaching or lack of effort, the Purples were just outmatched by 100 miles. #5 This was a bad timing game catching Bowling Green coming off a bye and a week for the biggest game of the year. Least it is out of the way and done. I don't believe there were any injuries. I certainly didn't see any and didn't hear of any, so hopefully that is accurate. Just have to tip the cap move on. This team was that much better nothing you can do about it. It got the rust out of the bye week out of the way. And South Warren won't be anywhere near as good. But South Warren does have a great OL/DL, certainly not as good as this Warren Central team, so that will hopefully help BG prepare and learn.
  13. Weather looks to be miserable for fans and players. 80 percent chance of rain during most of the time window for the game tonight in Indy with temps in the low 40s. Doesn't appear to be a heavy rain so may be more of a drizzle. We will departing in a few hours for the trip to Indy. I'm not going to predict a score this week because too many variables of unknowns as far as who is playing and who is not playing for both teams. I will be happy if BG just comes away with zero injuries or anyone banged up.
  14. Bowling Green Daily News story today: Spader believes the bye week and a fresh challenge has the Purples locker room focused and re-energized. Outside of the questionable status of senior offensive lineman Tre Cofer, the Purples will enter Friday healthy. Junior running back DeVito Tisdale, Bowling Green’s own four-star prospect with offers from several Power 5 schools, will return after sitting out against Grayson County. Tisdale has 11 total touchdowns for the Purples between offense and special teams.
  15. I am heading up for this game, for better or worse. Looks like temps will be in the low 40s upper 30s as the game goes on. BRRRRRR. And my post may sound cold as well, but I don't see any way BG wins this games. I'll be surprised if Bowling Green can keep it within 3 touchdowns. I see the Purples getting blown out in this one and it not really being a contest. This game and the timing is just not in a good place this season. I just hope we don't get a bunch of people hurt. I do think this game will have serious impact on the big matchup with South Warren the following week.
  16. I think Trinity will win this game by three scores or more.
  17. I know South Warren is destroying people and they could very well be the second best team 5A, we'll find out. They could blow Bowling Green out in the regular season and playoffs and go on to beat the heck out of Covington Catholic. They could even make Louisville Male and Trinity surrender at halftime. BUT I don't think they should get a pass on their per usual weak schedule. They have played 5 games and 3 of those games have been against lower class teams. The 1 higher class team they did play has a record of 1-4 and was missing a couple of its best players when they played. And other team they played is Grayson, who is 4-1. But I doubt anyone considers them a powerhouse with wins over Edmonson County, Breckenridge County and Hancock County. So I guess an A+ is warranted because of the winning margins, but that's not that hard to do when you play a lot lesser teams. I think it should at least be mentioned.
  18. Basically Barren County paid the buyout of $3,000 to each District opponent to buy the game out so they could schedule a more comparable opponent. Thus forfeiting any playoff possibilities. It's the first time I've ever seen a school buyout an entire District schedule. I have seen teams buyout one game. I've tried to find out some info on this Colorado team, but it's been difficult. The Denver Post wasn't much help and their high school website is terrible from I can tell. But they are in Class 5A which is Colorado's highest class and they appear to be a public school from what I can tell. The RPI ranking on their CHSAA Site has them at 39. I have no idea what that means. I think I saw something that in Colorado the teams have to play a certain amount of teams to be eligible for the playoffs and this team was stuck missing a game. I think there is a website where teams from across the country can post openings to try to get an opponent. South Warren I guess is giving them the $3,000 from the Barren County buyout and maybe a little bit of the gate. Not sure. It's a dang long trip that's for sure.
  19. St. X wins this one by several scores or more. PRP has some speed and good athletes, but there are no where near as good as they were last year. St. X shouldn't have much of an issue here.
  20. I don't really care either way, but no is the answer. If you thought BG was better than South Warren yesterday than that shouldn't change after tonight. BG has played a much tougher schedule and is 4-0. But it doesn't matter, it's just a poll and the two teams play each other later on in the season. And BG is at a HUGE disadvantage because of their scheduling playing Warren Central, IN away the week before.
  21. Solid win for the Purples. Playing at Owensboro is never easy and you can always count on needing to score one or two more touchdowns than you need because you know one or two will be called back. When you said coaching was a head scratcher, I agree. But it goes for both teams. Bowling Green was out schemed and out coached the first half tonight. BG's defense had some holes in it and Owensboro knew it and took advantage. Purples very lucky Owensboro didn't take the lead in the first half. And that interception in the endzone by Bowling Green was a game changer. I also thought BG's play calling was not nearly as good as it has been the last two weeks. I thought it took a step back tonight. I really questioned the offensive playcalling the first game against Central Hardin and rightfully so, but the past two weeks it had been great. But tonight not so much. Thankfully Vito Tisdale is on the roster. And what in the world was Bowling Green doing punting the ball on 4th and 1 late in the fourth quarter on the Owensboro 40?? I was honestly stunned by this and so were most people in the stands. There is no way Vito wouldn't have picked that up and our punt team had a lot of issues plus fighting wind and a wet ball. I really question Spader's decision on that one. I don't care what anyone says that as a bad call. I realize they were up two scores, but in that situation you put the game away. Too many things can go wrong on a punt especially tonight. I thought BG made some great adjustments on the defensive side to shut Owensboro down the second half. And Owensboro QB played well, especially the first half. He could really handle those short to midrange passes. Thankful to grind out a win tonight and looked to be without any injuries.
  22. As someone from Bowling Green, I'm kind of curious as the thoughts of the Saint X folks thus far. I know it's only two games into the season. But what is the general temperatures of the Saint X folks? Obviously the first two games didn't go so well, but is there a general underlying opinion? Are people angry about things or are folks more patience since it is a new coach? You hear all kinds of rumors down here so I was curious about the feelings up there.
  23. Coach Wallace LOVES that halfback pass play. I played for him at BG in 90s and we ran it then. He'll run that play almost once a game in close battles for some reason. We did it on a third down play late in the fourth quarter in the final four game in 1998, which fell incomplete. But to be fair the play was open, the ball was just overthrown.
  24. WOW.....that’s all I can say. Got back to BG at 2 am this morning, but wanted to wait until this morning to do a write-up. Coach Spader should be so proud of himself, his staff and his team. Those guys had everything in the world going against them after the first half and they not only climbed back in the game, but they were able to find away to win. Props go out to Vito Tisdale. That kid is all-in at the running back spot. Not just his talent level, but his effort in all phases is flat out impressive. The kid wants the ball and he wants to win. Bowling Green was the better team last night. If it wasn’t for a case of the dropsy and a rogue official Bowling Green wins that game by three touchdowns. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a team continually drop wide open passes. But the Purples did, over and over again. Can’t really explain it, but they caught them when they counted in the end I guess. Now onto this “rogue” offficial. I try not to be too hard on the officials but I realize it’s high school and it’s not easy. But there was one particular official that should be called into the principal’s office, have his performance tape reviewed and sent back down to doing junior high games. This guy either had it out for Bowling Green or was a complete incompetent bozo. And being his incompetence only hurt Bowling Green logic dictates one way. Another observation I took away is that Saint X just didn’t have the horses. Maybe that’s why the other coach left or was fired, but the talent level on that team was subpar of a top tier team who can openly recruit players. Their entire backfield was slow, I didn’t see anything special about the QB. I know he was hobbling around most of the second half, but if they don’t have a backup who is better than that QB on one leg, I don’t know what to say. Saint X is going to have find a way to bring in some better talent at key positions if they want to compete on the top tier level. Also props to Bowling Green for being able to handle the massive continuous rotation of fresh legs being thrown at them. I know it’s not anything new, but St. X was rotating 5,6,7 guys in like every other play on defense. And BG just didn’t seem to get tired. Also want to send out a shout out to the Saint X faithful. Every time I go up there for a game they are always some of the nicest people. The facility is great, the people working the event are super nice and helpful. They keep everything safe and flowing. And the St. X parents/fans are always so nice. They always talk to us and are just nice people. I couldn’t keep up with the number of people who wished us a safe journey home after the game. I think they get a bad rap because I’ve always heard they aren’t that way. But I’ve been up there for every game Bowling Green has played them and they are always so, so nice. And as a visiting fan I appreciate that. You don’t always see that.
